That was a nasty tree, but it was very interesting to see its end. Have you ever had any trouble with limbs getting tangled in the end of your rope when they're falling or being lowered? I'm guessing that was one reason why you asked the ground guy to bring your line closer to the trunk of the tree.

Ah, a fellow Antipodean (ex-pat K1W1)... Caleb is so "grounded" ~ no matter how high he climbs!
One of the things that fascinates me about Caleb is that he has "right-hand dominance" and yet he can switch to "left-hand dominant" as needed. That skill-set goes way beyond "ambidextrous" and is exceedingly rare.

Love your videos, I’m a huge fan! I was wondering if you could help me out and give me some advice. I'm moving to Portland soon, if you had to choose only one saw to buy for working in the Pacific Northwest, what would it be? Ideally it would be something that is a good ground saw but you could also climb with it if you needed to (Husqvarna would be ideal, i have a discount at one of their local dealers). I live in Utah I have an idea of what I’d get for all around tree work down here but you guys have some monsters up there! Thanks! Really appreciate your time and thank you for putting such great tree content out there!

This was a 12 tree job overall. Jake's portion was a small part of the project as a whole. It's about risk management. Paying a contract climber is far cheaper than doing damage to a customer's property. Also we know his cost to us and add it into the bid. Jake's very efficient, we work well together and I trust him.

Very nice calculating on how that would fall. I had a boxelder tree that was growing south towards the sun at a forty five degree angle and it was hanging over 2 fences. One neighbor was so worried I would ruin her fence. I told her I can just not cut it down and let it take out her whole fence and a play house. I had to rig up a 2"x12" standing vertical above the area I was chunking to lower chunks till I was on my side of the fence. I got it down without a scratch on her precious fence. The trunk I was chunking was twenty inches so I had to cut it into twelve inch sections. While I had to carry the limbs to the curb for my township to chip and walking past a weird tree that was a mutant boxelder/oak mix. I went in to get a drink and in the five minutes I was gone a sixteen inch limb crashed down right where I had just been walking with branches. I have a short clip of another limb I dropped on my channel. I did a controlled drop because the crotch had been splitting and was over five inches wide.

Good discussion at the beginning of the video about the lowering device mounted at the tree's base, and why this particular device is preferred. The device is used throughout the video, even though we can't see the device. Jake is up on the tree tying off branches, and we are viewing from his head-mounted camera. Jake tells the ground guy to make a couple wraps. The ground guy catches on fast. Jake also uses a redirect from the main pulley. I'm sure the climber's work is not as easy as Jake makes it look!

The job was 12 trees at a million dollar home. I really considered pulling it over but the weight over the house which doesn't show in the video was more risk than we were willing to take. There was a third trunk of the tree we removed with the bucket truck a few days before at 15ft above ground. The base split and was hollow. This added to the risk of falling the remaining two stems as they leaned at the home. We too pull over a lot of leaners
