Wow! I always watch old black and white movies as they have no blasphemies. I was watching this and thinking to myself - If this guy makes one more bad decision I’m not watching it anymore - when suddenly I couldn’t believe my eyes - his wife sees a billboard advertising a Billy Graham Crusade. She begs him to take her, and he goes along with her (very similar to Louis Zamperini in Unbroken). The Billy Graham sermon was so good. Billy at his best! Praise God that they weren’t ashamed of the Gospel in 1955 when made this movie!

I enjoyed this movie. There are plenty of false preachers, but Billy Graham was the real deal. He knew he was a sinner too, not perfect. I am saddened by the negative comments on him, but delighted with so many positive ones.

And was told by FBI that if he would have gone to St. Louis he would have been killed. He son had wrote a book on his father (my father was a gangster). The footage of billy graham was actual footage that he attended that service .

It's ALL TRUE ! Jesus Saves still and don't really worry Just receive Him, Ask away and do the Best you can from then on!! Read the Bible, Col.1:16, the Book of John and keep reading!! God is FAR more reasonable than any man, He Understands, He will accept Your confession. If you doubt and want to experience real spiritual warfare, just confess Jesus a few times to strangers, it is DIFFICULT AT FIRST !!! God, Jesus is all we've got in this stinking world that guarantees your Eternity !!!

The scenario of the film was based on a true story of Jim Vaus Jr. Evangeline Carmichael was married to and recorded with orchestra leader and composer Ralph Carmichael. In this film, she sings "I Cannot Hide from God," a selection from their gospel album "Something Old & Something New: Evangeline Carmichael With The Ralph Carmichael Orchestra and Chorus," Sacred Records (4) ‎- LP 9016.

Wonderful movie very entertaining, there is so much I could talk about the content of this movie, but in real life a Father must be at the birth of his baby and be the first to hold the baby, talk to the baby as it comes from darkness into light, the child will bond with you, I didnt know what to say, to my little boy, but I said " Dont worry Son one Day your going to win the ashes at cricket " and he just exercised his lungs yelling wa wa wa.
    I cried.

Once a guy I was interested in told me he was an on call paw bearer for his uncle's funeral parlor, when too few show up. I later found out he was connected to drugs somehow.
I wonder if he was a hitman. He had a beeper too at a time where guys involved in drugs carried them just like doctors and CEOs. Think about it, some hit men have been called "undertakers."
Glad I didn't get mixed up with him and I never found out the truth about his living.

However, we will never see books and movies of true crime and what goes on. We will only see what is said in court, which, is rarely the truth. Proceeds of crime legislation will stop criminal autobiographies or movies like The Executioner's Song.

The Billy Graham segment towards the end of this movie was unhelpful and unscriptural, in that it perverted the true gospel of faith alone in the risen Christ, and not a works based (turn from sin gospel!) God saves wicked sinners not by asking Christ into their hearts, but by believing in His death, burial and resurrection. It's a free gift! Receive it today! Amen and amen!

I'm sorry for your pain. :( Jesus knows what pain is. Besides the incredible physical suffering in his last day, he was rejected by almost everyone who should have stepped in to help him. And then he was even rejected by his Father in Heaven. That's when Jesus finally complained: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (The Father had to do that because the sins of the world--your sins and mine--were laid upon Jesus at that moment on the cross.) Jesus was rejected so that you could be accepted. He suffered so that you could be healed. He died so that you could live.

Be aware that the ultimate grifter Graham comes on at 1:12.

Plastic movie at best...full of stereotypes, poor acting and redemption rolled into a corn dog.

Kate Elliott - True, but entertaining. Back then, moralizing was a thing. Hollywood wanted to portray Americans as people who sometimes had a conscious - at least small town American's, not New Yorkers, you know city slickers, though. She sure had a pretty baby.

The United States needs more moralizing.

Umm, it's set in LA, not exactly a small town. Oddly enough, the real life gangster, a New Yorker, also eventually met Graham through Vaus.

@Ben Frank They should have said at the beginning, "This is an inspirational movie." Then I would have been sure to skip it.

I saw this movie on TV in 1960 when I was 9 years old. Now at 68, God's message is still the same. Un less a man is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. Repent. Confess. Believe. Receive. Thank you, Jesus, for dieting on the cross for my sins.
