Love the dramatics of the old film noir movies. So much more in depth than modern TV. In fact, I haven't really watched TV in at least 10 years. It's all on the internet. Incidentally, it's still possible to loose yourself in our society. There have even been books written about how to do it. So if life gets too difficult where you are just remember that you can start a new life whenever you want to in a new town. There's plenty of towns in America where you can get lost. If you're in the dope racket and want out, just split and start all over again. You can do it if you really want to.

Henreid was from a rich Austrian Jewish banking family and heg left Europe via England ahead of Hitler: he was lucky enough to get some romantic leads when at Warner Bros. but he wasn't needed as such after the war and he tried to shoehorn his aristocratic presence into cheap 'noir-era' thrillers like this one: he had plenty of work but it was a slide to the bottom.

I think Ms. Bennett's talent was not fully shown in this particular film. Being one of the shinning stars in Hollywood at that time, she could easily bring much more depth and psychological dimension to her character. But her blue eyes, one could get lost on them!! Preposterous yet engaging movie. Trials of assuming an identity is not a fresh idea; Bette Davis tried in the 1946 "A Stolen Life." Great noir achieved by Alton, ASC, who won an Academy Award for "An American in Paris." Also composer Charles Previn, cousin of Andre. First time I have seen a film need two Westmores, but the scars and stars looked great. The Hollywood make-up dynasty begun by George in 1917 who trained his six sons, thus lasting over 100 yrs, four generations, at least 11 frequently honored male make-up artists. Michael continues today, known for Star Trek and the reality program "Faces Off."

Pizza Flix always keep me watching ! Paul Henreid took command of a scene and entertaining, as was Joan with those great looks.

What an AWFUL movie. An absurd and extremely far-fetched storyline with an idiotic, wretched and one-dimensional main character. Even his foreign accent couldn’t save him. And Joan Bennett! Her jaded character’s naïveté and implausible behavior was not believable. There was so much wrong with this movie. I can’t get over the positive comments.

@@jimreid6370 After Muller is traced to his new work place, he is chased. But next day,as if nothing happened, he is at the town Zoo,wandering around town having coffee. Normal response: flee town. Yet Script never at an idea how to bring Bennetts character into frame since Muller hardly could flee with a woman he never knew.

@Teresa S You clearly don't know the definition of one-dimensional! He successfully worked stamping papers and doing deliveries, as a mechanic and as a psychoanalyst. He was also a thief, a gang boss and a surgeon. A one-dimensional character would only've been able to do one of those things. Joan Bennett's charcter was the opposite of naive; she was cynical, world-weary and resigned to life being terrible.

@Teresa S: Perhaps you should not watch B/W movies ever again. You clearly have trouble transporting your boring life into NOIR classics.

How totally brain-dead of the writers. If the photo was reversed -- just as the criminal's image was in his own mirror -- the scar would end up on the correct side! But it didn't. Let's hear it for laughably shoddy logic.
