    So when you took the fan unit out and cleaned the 2 sections, I assume those 2 sections were thermal paste and the other 4 nearer the fans was thermal putty ?

      I think, not that much dangerous when you are just replacing the thermal paste. Unless you are replacing the screen its recommended to disconnect the battery.

    Anyone know what the 4 smaller chips are that are pasted? Should they be cleaned and repasted also?
    Ive seen a few of these tutorials and they always leave out those smaller areas but I feel like they should be repasted also?

      I think it's the VRAM, they're covered in that pink thing that's thermal putty and does the same job as thermal paste, dissipating heat. You should also replace it when it looks dry.

      Thanks for the reply. I did end up repasting all chips with thermal paste. Temps are much more stable now.

      thats thermal putty is still in good condition... no need to replaced
