The ammo consumption isn't the real problem, the fire rate is great, therefore the ammo consumption will pe on par. The real problem is the low contextual ammo return from mobs, like why do you get only 4-6 rounds back from killing a mob?Just like with the LMG. While 5 mm rounds you get hundreds back..and minigun is an even higher fire rate. My guess is it was supposed to be used sparingly, against high health targets or as a bossing weapon.
when I used to main this gun, I'd top up my ammo by running daily ops a few times with a gauss shotgun. That gives a much higher rate of return with mobs. Then I'd bring out the gauss minigun for events.
My Quess is that the gauss minigun uses the same code for contextual ammo return as the qauss rifle, due to the quass rifle being VERY high damage but single shot and a small magazine and intended it to mostly be a one shot kill. Meaning you would waste 1-2 shots or 3 then get back 2-5 ammo from the enemy you killed.
I usuallly use the ammo converter to get 2mm ammo. Between usuing plasma carts/arrows/railway spikes/shotgun shells you can stack 2mm ammo extremely quickly! Especially with Railway Spikes. It only takes steel to craft those. The other ones are just easily stacked without really trying while also having a better convertion rate than some other ammo
I’ve always been full health for five years. And I always have at least one vampire weapon and I die very in frequently. I don’t do as much damage, but I’m good with that. That said anti-armor explosive on this thing has literally changed the game for me. I now have a weapon that does serious damage. I was amazed. And 500 rounds, if I’m doing a queen in a group, my 500 rounds is enough for me to make me feel like I’ve done my job. I’ve knocked off probably 1/3 to 1/ half of the Queen’s health. I figure in a group I’ve done my duty. But I have to say the joy of the increased damage that I’ve discovered after five years of playing this game is quite enjoyable. Cannot wait for that fourth star.
The biggest problem with the ammo for this gun is the fact that is weighs a TON! I don't mind using alot of flux, steel or lead. Its dealing with the ammo I have to carry around once I make it.
On the question of Anti Armor vs. Bloodied, power armor with the Stabilized card makes all the difference. Running Bloodied & Stabilized together gives you the best of both worlds, and seems to out-perform pure Bloodied or Anti Armor + Stabilized. At least as far as my personal testing has shown, and it's going to get even better since Bethesda is moving away from extreme resistances and armor on bosses, and going more for large health pools. And Bloodied is only boosted further by Adrenal Reaction serum effects and Nerd Rage, which you should obviously be using. It's like the game is actively encouraging you to use power armor and heavy weapons for boss fights. You will get the best results that way, even if you aren't using Bloodied weapons. And IMO, that's the way it SHOULD be - power armor and heavy weapons are resource intensive, end-game things you should bust out for boss battles. It makes the game actually feel like you have put on your expensive but powerful walking tank suit and brought the big guns to the dance for a reason, while ordinary enemies can be handled without the resource drain and special equipment during normal situations. It's immersive like that.
One great way is having excavator power armor at the lucky hole mine (Savage Divine) and grab every lead ore I can spot, for steel, pretty much scrapping weapons and having extractors for steel is handy, one easy way is using a regular weapon throughout a expedition and then switching it at the end to get the ammo reward, another thing I’ve managed to also see is that ammo sometimes spawns in ammo donation boxes for whatever weapon you’re using, plus limited time things like treasure hunters can give you the packages that give you contextual ammo.
Gauss minigun is the best for now. I'll be interested to see if it stays that way when the gatling plasma gets its new mods. It's gonna be really close. I wish they'd add mods to more weapons like the LMG and 50 cal
I run AA with a prime receiver on this too make more ammo. I’m always running Queen fights so the crimson is no big problem. My only problem is the visual as I don’t use bats with this and seeing the enemies while firing can be almost impossible. But thanks to the explosion radius I just keep firing like a mad man. Good video dude
Another great video my friend, I'm convinced with the introduction to 4 star legendary weapon effects that a two-shot variant will rise to take helm of dps king and make this weapon more ammo friendly until Bethesda decides to tweak this weapon some more.
I’ve loved the gauss mini for a long time and with the addition of putting the explosive effect on it back in September made that much better. But one effect you mentioned was Juggernaut’s, I’d love to see that get buffed to compete with aristocrats or junkies, 25% from juggernauts just isn’t enough to really want to give it a crack.
I love this video. I really do. I'm excited to go make this weapon. However, you could consider adding a better "pop filter" to your microphone, or else removing the explosive mod from your mouth-canon. ;)
As a bow user, I’d love to see a video comparing heavy weapons. What’s great for a daily driver with solid dmg and ammo economy and what’s best to use against bosses. This may entice me to work towards collecting those items.
My daily is the plasma caster. In and out of power armor it has great overall damage and range. Insane ammo efficiency. You get so many Plasma Cartridges running out is unheard of
you best bet is to build up reserves with the gauss rifle and use the gauss minigun exclusively for boss shredding. The ammo economy is really broken in fallout 76 some things are easily maintained and in fact you'll be overflowing in ammo other things are really only good for one raid boss. How does the anti armor compare to aristocrats for full health builds? I rarely see people discuss that, and on most things aristocrats does a significantly noticeable amount more of damage compared to anti armor even against raid bosses now.
This is probably my favorite weapon in fallout 76. It is so fun to use. But keeping up with the ammo is absolutely unreal. This thing requires 4x the lead of any other weapon to keep fed and all your time playing will be spent to farming more lead. I know this, because I used to main it for a time. It is super exhausting to try and keep fed with lead and ammo. But it out damages every other heavy gun in the game. And just forget about the prime receiver. You will never be able to farm enough crimson flux to keep it fed, its literally impossible. There's not enough crimson flux spots in the game to keep this damn thing fed. Hopefully one day they will fix the insane ammo problem with this gun.
I have anti armor on mine with all demolition cards and science cards, idont have explosive yet and it is amazing. My plasma gat with explosive is very close. Ammo is not that expensive if you don't use prime. Kt
@P3nAlPineapple gauss minigun is always fun even without double explosive, only issue is resources, i like to keep mine with ultracite, eats ammo like crazy

The Gauss shotgun used to do the same, and hopefully will again once they fix it. Idk...I'm sitting on 115,000 2mm rounds for this thing I currently use for the rifle and shotty. @@jdh9676 i have one of these and a gatling plasma ready for the raids. Gauss does ballistics and plasma does energy dmg. I feel like having both will set you up perfectly for the raids. In case one of the bosses has high ballistics resistances and low energy resist or vice versa
@@EVERYTYME That sounds pretty solid. I have a QE50 Gatling Plasma set aside, myself. Very easy on ammo to say the least. So that and the Gauss Mini should strike a nice balance. The amount of ammo you get from expeditions does not stack up well enough against its consumption. There are some ways to grind ammo but it all takes more time compared to other weapons
Wait, I thought the mini gun was broken with the explosive legendary effect and not as in doing more damage was there an update that I didn’t know about? Lol
Thanks a million for checking out the video buddy, delighted you enjoyed it To be honest, even though though technically the Gauss shotgun got a nerf, with either Anti Armor or Bloodied on that, plus the explosive 2nd star, the Gauss Shotgun is still a very viable weapon to use!
As someone whos been playing since the B.E.T.A I can say that the gauss minigun is a beast but the ammo is a grind to maintain. One good boss fight can drain your entire supply if you arent paying no mind to it. That being said its not a bad weapon if you put the time into getting the ammo together. I run a no mutation full health PA build using a AE gauss minigun and it slaps as hard as its bloody equivalent but that may just be because I enjoy the gun so much.
He has ever used the gas mini gun is there every day weapon it’s a toy to play with once in a while. At least it was if you can now put explosive effect in the secondary star maybe it’ll have function again, but it’s far too expensive and not that impressive otherwise
I hope to have that video out either by Friday or Saturday 😊 Just with day job stuff and my office days which are Thursday and Friday, I don't get a lot of time to edit during those days but I have about 80-90% of that video done so it should be out by the end of the week / weekend
This has been my gun exact same build for a good bit now. A ammo hog but OP. You can use 3 card sets to boost the damage if you put the right parts on. Note any explo won’t show on stats. And the anti-armor is trash just put the right cards on and you kill Earl faster than what he showed you on screen and I’ve done this with plenty of groups to prove it. Do not use what he has for perk cards in his intelligence slot. That’s where he went wrong. you only need two of those cards. Add the science cards to it so that you get added extra damage to your electrical on there. You will need max perk cards to boost points to spend.
Unfortunately not but they have brought back explosive mods for energy weapons but they've fixed the damage calculator on the muzzles that were doing the unintended damage from the legacy versions
Yeah it's a definite grind for sure! But Minerva will be back in Appalachia in the next 4 days and she's going to have the plan for the gauss minigun for 563 bullion 😊, however she won't have the mods for it apparently but at least you can get the minigun itself!
Like a truck and it already has the explosive effect built-in so you’re kind of wasting a legendary effect on X adding explosion again but the whole problem with that weapon isn’t that it isn’t good. It’s always been good. The problem with it has always been that it’s way too expensive to use. Shooting significant amounts of that ammo is expensive. That’s what’s wrong with that weapon not that I couldn’t do damage, but that it cost a lot to fire the weapon. I mean, maybe that cost can be mitigated some by taking it into Atlantic City or something and grabbing a bunch of ammoI don’t know if you shoot more or less than you earn over there with that weapon some weapons you do
Bloodied + adrenal reaction + heavy gunner perks + nerd rage + bloody mess and adrenaline in agility perks will make it go high the more enemies you kill
As Ahmed mentioned above 😊 It’s a combination of the Adrenal Reaction mutation while being low health, combined with max Nerd Rage, Max Heavy Gunner perks (60% increase damage) Bloody Mess (15% bonus damage) Demolition expert boosting the internal explosive effect and the bloodied legendary effect while being below 20% health 😊
Hi yes it's very funny but you consume too much ammo. There are more performing weapons. One shot one kill or 3 / 4 ammo to kill enemies. This gauss minigun eat a lot of ammo for the same result. Yes funny but not a monster in my opinion

Great video mate! Could the explosion mod make the Gauss Shotgun a viable option again in my shotgun build…🤫
Not really. Cold shoulder is still stronger and a Combat Shotgun is on the same level as Gauss Shotgun but faster fire rate and more accurate
Thanks a million for checking out the video buddy, delighted you enjoyed it
To be honest, even though though technically the Gauss shotgun got a nerf, with either Anti Armor or Bloodied on that, plus the explosive 2nd star, the Gauss Shotgun is still a very viable weapon to use!
@@P3nAlPineapple Thanks!! 😁😁😁
@@OnlineHipHopTV Yep I use the Cold Shoulder for now ;) Back to testing on some Super Mutants!
@@WastelandChef really hope they bring gauss shotgun back to its previous glory at some time
So what do I need to do for u to just drop one for me. For a low level I would love this gun.
cant drop any of the gauss weapons .....they are not tradable ....sorry bout that
Yeah unfortunately the gauss weapons aren't tradable 🥲
As someone whos been playing since the B.E.T.A I can say that the gauss minigun is a beast but the ammo is a grind to maintain. One good boss fight can drain your entire supply if you arent paying no mind to it. That being said its not a bad weapon if you put the time into getting the ammo together. I run a no mutation full health PA build using a AE gauss minigun and it slaps as hard as its bloody equivalent but that may just be because I enjoy the gun so much.
i apologise for my ignorance in advance but, how does he has so many special points?
Legendary perks.
I use a gauss shotgun
He has ever used the gas mini gun is there every day weapon it’s a toy to play with once in a while. At least it was if you can now put explosive effect in the secondary star maybe it’ll have function again, but it’s far too expensive and not that impressive otherwise
Buffed tesla cannon vid when?
I hope to have that video out either by Friday or Saturday 😊
Just with day job stuff and my office days which are Thursday and Friday, I don't get a lot of time to edit during those days but I have about 80-90% of that video done so it should be out by the end of the week / weekend
@P3nAlPineapple Take your time. Thanks for the great content. 😁
@@mdskjoker You're very welcome and thank you for your kind words and support! I really appreciate it
This has been my gun exact same build for a good bit now.
Are they going to give us back the exp energy pew pews they took away from us..
Unfortunately not but they have brought back explosive mods for energy weapons but they've fixed the damage calculator on the muzzles that were doing the unintended damage from the legacy versions
Been running this for a couple of weeks now. I just need fucking ammo lol. The return rate is outrageously shit.
Best weapon in game :)
Hell yeah it is!
Can someone please do some testing with an explosive cryolator.
So, you say it "hits like a truck", but you also say it eats a lot of ammo. I'm guessing you meant a hot wheels truck, then?
Hot wheels trucks are cool too? 😅
Raider Rep is a slog, still haven't got it.
Yeah it's a definite grind for sure!
But Minerva will be back in Appalachia in the next 4 days and she's going to have the plan for the gauss minigun for 563 bullion 😊, however she won't have the mods for it apparently but at least you can get the minigun itself!
Here's the link for Minerva btw -> www.whereisminerva.com/
sad 2mm EC is so fucking rare
Definitely 😂
Ngl bloodied is life 😈
Anti armor works better in a bloody build hands everytime and prime is a wasteful mod. Tesla coil capacitor gives an extra 125 ammo and better DPS
I mean, maybe that cost can be mitigated some by taking it into Atlantic City or something and grabbing a bunch of ammoI don’t know if you shoot more or less than you earn over there with that weapon some weapons you do
Beast!
Hell yeah buddy!! Absolute Beast!
How do you get it to over 240+ damage? 🤣
Bloodied + adrenal reaction + heavy gunner perks + nerd rage + bloody mess and adrenaline in agility perks will make it go high the more enemies you kill
As Ahmed mentioned above 😊
It’s a combination of the Adrenal Reaction mutation while being low health, combined with max Nerd Rage, Max Heavy Gunner perks (60% increase damage) Bloody Mess (15% bonus damage) Demolition expert boosting the internal explosive effect and the bloodied legendary effect while being below 20% health 😊
Hi yes it's very funny but you consume too much ammo. There are more performing weapons. One shot one kill or 3 / 4 ammo to kill enemies. This gauss minigun eat a lot of ammo for the same result. Yes funny but not a monster in my opinion
Like a truck and it already has the explosive effect built-in so you’re kind of wasting a legendary effect on X adding explosion again but the whole problem with that weapon isn’t that it isn’t good. There’s a bloody weapon. There’s no such thing as a bloody build. There’s a low health build your conflating the two things. A bloody weapon is most efficiently used on a low health build, but there is no such thing as a low health weapon not that I’m aware of.
I love ur videos man! Just A friendly Critique: Try and not Ramble on for too long on Things u wanna say:) U tend to say the same thing over and over, and Drag out what u wanna say For too long, making the video Unnecessarily long
😮 How could you say such a thing! …. LOL just kidding! Appreciate your honest feedback and support 🤘🏻 noted for the next video and thank you for checking out the video, really appreciate your feedback 🙏😊
@P3nAlPineapple Ur welcome! The Gauss Mini is Awesome now..Can't wait to use my Vampire one in the Raids😎
That’s how you handle critique. Respect!
Your talking out your ass ❤
You’re * 👌
This gun isn't even that good
Ah it is 😅
anyone having problems with this weapon in v.a.t.s?
outside v.a.t.s its kinda good but in V.a.t.s miss everyother shot ....the drop in damage is stupid
i gotta stay on my v.a.t.s gatling plasma
I wouldn't worry too much about the vats situation right now because in December vats is getting a bit of a rework for most weapons and also for use in power armor too!
So you will notice a difference using most weapons and heavy guns in vats
1st😊
i dont think anyone cares
Thank you legend, I really appreciate your support and thanks for checking out the video
