He was my favorite since I was very young. Started in Milwaukee when I lived there as a kid. I’d look at box scores every day of every year he played (excepting Brewers). Listened on the radio living in Chicago. I could pick up Milwaukee Pittsburgh St. Louis (when Harry Carey was doing Cards games), and Atlanta at night. Just a FYI, he could and did hit some long home runs, including being one of four to hit out center field at the Polo Gounds. 480 feet. He hit one onto the roof of Sportsman’s Park off Curt Simmons and was called out at the plate (is he the only one ever with that distinction?). Simmons was a slow ball tease and Henry got pissed off and ran up the box to pound the ball into oblivion. It was either Ueuker or mccarver who yelled at the umpire as Aaron was starting his trot. So he had 756.

Hammering Hank was an All Time great - But Willie Mays was slightly better . Great outfielders in that day and age. Clemente , Kaline, Mantle, we cold go on and on. Baseball ruled the world back then

If it were not for the 81, 94, 95 strike shortened seasons, Baines would have had 400 home runs, and 3,000 hits. He came up just shy of both. Just like Lee Smith, who would have had 500 saves. He was the all time leader for like 13 seasons who pitched both the 8th and 9th innings. Dude has more inning pitched than Hofman and Rivera.
