Garrett, as a father of seven, 4 of them being girls, I love seeing the next generation, and especially young women, get excited about technologies and skills traditionally reserved for "old guys." As a professional [corporate] instructor and a father in general, I can say without reservation that you did a great job of explaining the concepts to Liberty. She clearly gets it as evident in her "almighty home" analogy and in how each WSO is a room within the CNC's known world - an analogy I will be using this week with my daughter and son-in-law as they start their first projects. Please let Liberty know for me that she's doing a great job and that I 100% endorse seeing more content just like this if not a dedicated playlist. Besides the fact that this type of content simply needs to exist in the world, its educational value is very much needed and appreciated. You have without a doubt earned my respect and repeat business.
Great video, this is the first video I’ve seen that talks about G54-G59 offsets. I’ve been a machinist for 42 years, the last 15 years as a CNC programmer. I’m looking at getting a CNC router to play with and was curious if they are programmed the same as a CNC mill. You know your stuff. Thank you for your videos.
Great job you two! Yes Liberty you should be on more often. Limit switches are very handy, so you don't crash the machine into the hard stops, and make the motors grumble 😄
Love this video. As a machinist I used different fixture offsets all the time. I am used to having to machine home the machine at start up daily. Definitely need to purchase limit switches
jt2508, I'm glad you found the information helpful! Homing switches are a great addition for accuracy. And thank you for the kind words about her learning! It's always fun to share the journey.
WOW, Liberty is rockin it. I understand what the limit sensors are for. However, I finally understand how to set G54 , G55.... I heard about it but didn't get it until now. This is going to make my CNC journey so much better. Thanks for the video. ❤
Once I home I also take a measurement of both sides to make sure they are the same. The right side will need to be turned at times. For me to have a reference once I have measured both sides I make a very tight line mark with a sharpie on the right rail. Once I home I check to be sure the machine is squared. I hope I explained that well enough.
What I need to know is prior to the settings you are describing.. I am using Proximity Sensors (PS) on the XH- , x+, YH-, y+, Y slave , Z+. My question is how close to the positive stop should I move the router to? And then slowly move the PS until it is activated. Is this the correct way to establish the Homing and Limit switches? I use the Y- left and right steppers to square the gantry, will I still be able to do this if I set the switches as I described above? I have watched so many YT’s and they do not describe this procedure, they all assume its already done, and you cannot go further until they have been setup properly. Thanks
IH1940HAY, It sounds like you're on the right track with your homing and limit switch setup! Yes, you want to move the router as close to the positive stop as possible and then slowly adjust the proximity sensor until it activates. This will ensure that the homing process is accurate. If you're using the Y- steppers to square the gantry, you should still be able to do that after setting up the switches as you've described. Just make sure all your movements are well-coordinated to avoid any collisions.
Hey Garrett, perfect subject for me. I also use gSender. When enabling limit switches and homing in my firmware, I constantly get alarms (no idea what they mean….yet…..yes, I’ve just downloaded the alarm sheet you posted, Thanks) So, I’ve been homing my machine, than going back into firmware and disabling homing and hard limits to avoid the alarm. So, first question, what are your ideas on how to fix my alarm problem? And second, do I actually lose my “home” position after setting home and than disabling homing and hard limits in Firmware?
Hello Garrett. I purchased a Longmill (30x30) over a year ago. It didn't come with homing switches. Does Scienci offer them as an add-on? I'm hoping you will know. I ordered a spindle based on your video on Spindles. I am so looking forward to installing it when I get it and using it. THese homing switches are so needed. Thanks for you reply
My limit switches identified an out of alignment problem. So I realigned the cnc, thought that was strange. Then proceeded to destroy the next commisioned project. The left drive belt (which is a maintenance item) needed to be replaced. So - If I had listened to my limit switches, it would have saved me the embarrassing task of having to ask the customer to send me another set of plexiglass.
techturtle1964, sorry to hear that your machine gave you those troubles with moving out of bounds brother. Glad to hear that problem is behind you now!
I like to tell people to think of it like GPS everything is based off the 0,0 reference. The software always knows where it is and how to move to a new location.
well, isn't she just delightful! Its great to see someone ACTUALLY learning along with me, rather than being a prop for the Instructor.
TheAy7531, glad you liked this one brother! Happy CNCing.

Sirelnsectus, thank you brother! I am so happy to hear you enjoyed this video and the lessons learned on Liberties part!

chrislane225, right on brother! Glad to hear this one helped you so much.

ozugizzi, I couldnt agree more brother! Limit switches are critical.
Love this video. As a machinist I used different fixture offsets all the time. I am used to having to machine home the machine at start up daily. Definitely need to purchase limit switches
HuguenotHTX, so glad you liked this one brother! Happy CNCing.
I am learning more about cnc everytime i watch your videos. Thank you.
dennisbracci9212, you are so welcome my friend.
I love the way she explained it good job Liberty
gcarter1953, Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the explanation!
Liberty you are going to love using the G54- G59. nice Teaching Garrett
dellgateway6013, I couldn't agree more brother! Glad you liked this one.
Thank you Garrett. First Time somebody explains this so clearly. 🙂
benvandermerwe2359, you are so welcome my friend.
good infomation. i think i will add homing switches on my machine. also you have a quick learner there, hope to see her in more videos
jt2508, I'm glad you found the information helpful! Homing switches are a great addition for accuracy. And thank you for the kind words about her learning! It's always fun to share the journey.
Loved the video Garrett and yes very helpful and keep Liberty with you to help explain.....its a nice touch
dalebrown7893, thanks brother. Glad you liked this one.
The offset info was new for me and that was good info to learn.
PCPerks757, so glad to hear this one helped you brother.

bkgoddard, that is a very good method you have brother! I like that, thank you so much for sharing.
Love to see that nice new machine. Liberty you’re doing a great job, you have the yoda of CNC’s for an instructor 😊.
douge8231, thanks brother! She is doing a great job learning CNC, I couldn't agree more.
Great video, y'all and I'm glad y'all are welling to do videos for all of us to learn from. Thanks again
roblehmann, you are so welcome my friend.
Great video I see now how setting g codes makes it easier to set a project. Nice to see Liberty in the video.
garyjadick1774, glad you liked this one with Liberty in it brother! Happy CNCing.
Thank for explanation.. please more vids.... Learning here...😅
JanetDiaz6152, keep working hard and learning everything you can my friend. Happy CNCing.
Well done, Garrett. Can you set the machine to move to G55, G56, G57 so that we can see where it stops?
Hybrid_Soul, I will definitely try to squeeze this into a future video brother thanks for the suggestion! Happy cncing!
🌵 You made Liberty's brain 🧠 go 🤯🌵
WilliamCovell, very true my friend. She is learning quite a lot.
Good evening Garrett and Liberty!
emostorm7, happy to have you here brother!

Sincerely, everyone 😊😊😂
emostorm7, will do brother! Thanks for the feedback.
really good video
isAif47, Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
LIBERTY ROCKS!!! ❤️🤟😃
JoeLazzara, thanks brother. Glad you like her on the channel.
I love how Liberty related G54, G55....as how many steps those "rooms" are from the front door, X0,Y0!
johnk6847, so glad you liked this one brother! It is always a joy to watch others learn CNC.

bigirish4886, great point brother! I like that analogy.
I found it confusing.
woodieaz, sorry to hear that brother! I will work to make things more clear in the future.
