Incredible. This is really special to me. I spent quite a bit of time with Carl in 1983 when I was 11 years old and living with my mom in Santa Monica. Long story short, they belonged to the same cult and they got paired together in “workshops” often. We were very poor at the time. My mom was living on unemployment checks and couldn’t afford a babysitter when she would go to cult meetings and functions at their offices on Wilshire at the end of the block where we lived. He would watch me while my mom was busy and he was a very gentle and kind man. My mother got to know him very well and she told me how sad he was, basically because of his abusive father and self-esteem issues revolving around his weight. But he was very kind and playful with me. I had just barely gotten serious on guitar at that time, but we never talked about music. He basically entertained me and played frisbee with me and stuff like that. I really didn’t know who he was at the time to be honest. I knew of The Beach Boys, but I had absolutely no idea that he was in the group. It wasn’t until a few years later that I learned who he was and of his famous lead vocals like “God Only Knows” and “Good Vibrations”. Thanks for bringing me back to an unusual time in my childhood!
Nice interview. Carl seems very cordial. Sad that Dennis would be gone in a couple of years. I saw the "Keeping The Summer Alive" tour in 1980. Great concert!

Carl was cordial if a bit distant. One of the greatest voices ever. "God Only Knows." What else needs to be said?
Any chance of posting your Roger Fisher interview from 1979? Any Heart stuff would be appreciated!
I may get around to that someday. Thanks for the interest.
