Great video guys!.. I actually have one just like this ,..red, 1977.. it's undergoing a full restoration here pretty soon, as it's been setting for a long time out in this Southwestern desert sun. But it's in good shape, and will be in better shape when I complete the renovation process. I had an earlier model years ago, ..it was the smaller DT36O in the green color. It was a runner for sure, so I can imagine how strong the DT400 is..I haven't ridden this 400 yet since I've had it, so I'm looking forward to it. I grew up with dirt bikes, and I'm 70 years young at the moment. Thanks again for this outstanding video on the Yamaha DT400..!! Best Regards..Bill in Las Vegas!!
I used to race Yamaha dirt bikes back in the seventies and I had a whole big bag full of counter shaft sprockets forum from anywhere from one tooth up to two teeth down make them run different
I've had mine for almost a year now. $1800usd guy needed to sell quick for his mortgage. Not in the best condition but only 4800 miles on the clocks. A really nice bike!
Hey Nickolas, thanks for watching and sharing your DT tale. They are a bit of a secret weapon. The DT400. Muscle and torque. Share us with your friends and let us know what else or who you would like us to track down and feature? Cheers Bruce n Lachlan

Absolutely fantastic job on bring it back to show room condition . Gumtree brought me here I hope you get what your asking. the price is fair for it's condition there's alot of time and money gone into it. A mate had one years ago when we were teenagers and I always loved it. So when one came up about 5 years ago for the right price I jumped on it quick hoping to do something with it . Thinking maybe a scrambler / tracker type of thing ??? It's in ok condition missing a few things speedo/tacho , oil pump thinking of just using premix if i cant find a oil pump otherwise it's all there and it runs . Thanks ✌
Definitely a bit rich. I've been around the houses trying to get my dt400mx carburetor sorted. Ended up back at square one with the original jets, which according to everything else I've read are wrong 🤔
Beautiful machines, built well. I had a 76 and my brother had a 77. This is 77 to 79 design, Monoshock debuted in 77.
Love it!
Thanks for sharing your memories Randy. Great machines indeed Cheers Bruce

I had two of the DT250MXs back in the day. Wonderful bikes. They were never as popular as the DT175MX in the UK, but I preferred the bigger bike.
That guy likes his Yamaha so much he's stroking the seat take a good look
Ha Ha Ha loved it n Sold it.

@@TwistgripTales Thanks ✌
This year DT always starts perfectly. If it doesn’t kick over on the 3rd kick, something is wrong
This was my first new bike, 1,020$. Putting an MX head on it and a 67 degree throttle was a big bump in performance.
They packed a huge punch of torque. Leader of the pack in their day. Happy New Year Matt
I bought mine in early 1977
Nice,, sounds a tad rich, and its a 1977. twinshocks were 1976
Thanks for watching and the heads up on the monoshock in 1977.
What would you like to see us do a review on in the future?
@@TwistgripTales Maybe the H1 kawasaki ,"
