Incredibly talented Batya' wrote this after returning from Standing Rock at the height of the Dakota Access Pipeline protests (ongoing to date). Universal and timeless #BeforeOctober7th
In the face of the current polarization in our Jewish community during this crisis, Batya, you plead with us to rise above the divisiveness, and the labeling, and join together in hope for justice.
This song played maybe 1/3 of the way through, first time it came on, before I decided to pull over the car, restart with lyrics and give full attention. I teared up as I have constantly been watching the Palestinians under attack. It brought me to tears. I did not know associated with the protests in any way. I am happy see comments of that nature, but also just to discover this artist. I assume they allow the song to be used. If that is true, this is a very, very courageous young person to.stand on principal in this hostile climate. By the sound and meaning of the song, I will assume that is true. Song reaches into hearts and unravels the complicated with purity. Excited for more, thank you for what it has given me.
This is the Judaism I was always looking for. Intersectional, radically inclusive, antizionist, antiracist, and truly embodying our values of justice and healing the world.
This wakes me up EVERY MORNING, in hope, and in prayer. So much love and light!! I can't tell you how much your arrangement, singing, strength and varieties in voices ascending and then decending has all meant to me and literally changed my life- daily!!
I love this!! It's apparent from the beginning that everyone is feeling the moment. If there was a doubt the last moment when she looks up with tears in her eyes.. well I have tears in mine as well. Imagine world where we put energy to use for good for all rather than for the few.. Thank you for this
Every time I meet with adversity, death, illness, tragedy- I play this song in my head immediately and smile, as my spirit and vibration literally rises!! I can more easily deal with any problems knowing that I can rise and This song, this track, can change and does change lives, every day!! Thank you!!!
My music and homeroom teachers taught us this song and now I'm just mad because 1) It sounds way different and, in my opinion, not showing us this gorgeous video, they ruined the quality we sang it with 2) They changed some of the lyrics, changing 'prayer' in the chorus to 'care' which I can kind of understand, but, that brings me to point number 3) They only taught us the first two parts. The entire song has so much meaning and power that I'm just disappointed that they didn't teach us the rest. On a better note, this is gorgeous and I'm going to be listening to it for the next few hours-
Sang this for the first time today in Charlottesville UU worship service -- very moving. Love this song! Is this an original composition or...? Thank you for this
It's original lyrics, primarily inspired by the Native and Indigenous led resistance I witnessed at Standing Rock as well as my own Jewish tradition and other movements for liberation. So grateful the music is resonating with you.
@@batyalevine6283 It's beautiful. I've participated in If Not Now actions where we sung We Rise and I noticed the Mennonites singing it at their ceasefire sit-in last week but I didn't know the origins. Hearing your rendition is extraordinary powerful and provides me comfort in strength in a dark and bewildering time. I am grateful for your voice.
we sang this song attempting to accompany the kesiya family back to their land in al makhrour. their home and restaurant has been destroyed by the israeli military four times.
This albom is so spirituality lifting and deep awakening. I'm wondering where you guys are located? And is there more content available? Thank you so much.
This collection of musicians lives all over the east coast and came together for this album. many of us are in the Philly/NYC area. You can purchase the album here: batyalevine.bandcamp.com/album/karov
Love the spirit of this Jewish Gospel music! I’m hopeful for the Jewish people going forward, and how we must count on each other to survive as our best selves.. BUT this concept is totally lost on the Palestinians, especially now, and to dovetail this into pro Palestinian protests instead of vehement anti right wing Israeli activity seems misplaced. A free Palestine by their prescriptive and baked in the cake idea that Jews don’t belong in Palestine includes no Jews, dead Jews, from river to the sea. Once again, history takes a hit. Hard to reconcile.

This song brought tears to my eyes. Did Batya Levine write the lyrics or is a traditional hymn?
