How are they going to know? There's no way for those on island to hear this info? No phone or power so no electric communication. It has to be done word of mouth and door to door.

There is also airboats and shuttles taking people off pine island. Sanibel is farther to the main land.

My fiancée is in bokeelia and he said they dont want to help you. Jus evacuated you, there is law enforcement there with supplies but not for the islanders. Many people dont want to leave, they are only reporting people wanting to leave but not the ones that one stay. Also said they would take them to an airport but not any help to buy a plane ticket. More civilians are helping people that the government. However senate just sent another 12 billion to Ukraine..

Bull shit. A lot of natives don’t wanna leave because they are very wealthy and they don’t want to get their properties looted. They are worried that if they leave that their properties won’t be guarded and people are going to steal their stuff. Now granted that is a legitimate concern but don’t get it twisted hon.

Officials need to be open about the long term plans for Pine Island. Tear the band aid off! We all know that road MIGHT be done by Christmas, but at least tell the residents of Pine Island what the current plan is other than "it's safer for you to leave..." My parents evacuated Pine Island and came up to my home in Tampa, but their correspondence with all the locals they know is not reassuring for a long term solution.

I am in Port Charlotte and trying to reach anyone is dang near impossible. The temporary cell towers should be in place soon, so the communications should be a bit easier. I think search and rescue is a bit busy at the moment to have a town meeting. 4 to 6 gas stations for the whole of Charlotte County, and it is a line that easily consumes 6-8 hours. NO JOKE. Bridges are damaged, and flooded. People are doing the best they can, with what they don't have.

It takes time. They should not live on islands if they are not patient. Should have had dried foods, plenty of water and a camp stove to cook. Prepare ahead, especially out on an island.😢

Hire 1 of those airplanes that tow messages telling residents to go to the fire house.

Unfortunate but the poor people believing they could just steak it out on the island with their homes, only to realize such things are in fact not possible. its one thing to deliberately come to a situation prepared for a short term stay, with supplies communication and means of survival, its another thing when the basic necessities are gone. people are finding out the hard way. And now have to be rescued. Its dangerous to stay in such homes from a health and sanitation perspective as well. as the demolished homes gather mold, and eventually harmful pests begin to multiply. But i see this as a live lesson as well. as such places and their inhabitance long looked at the hardships of others and could care less. places like this that prided themselves on the exclusion of others. The news Fema and all aid focusing on the rich and not giving a crap about the rest of the city of Fort Myers, who also saw loss and ruin, but since those people are not those who lived on the islands of vanity, you dont hear much of a peek about help and aid for them ..
