Do not give any thought or word to the naysayers and trolls - they don’t actually DO anything anyway. Thanks for what YOU do. I have purchased the materials and will use this in my off grid home - because you demonstrated it. Thanks.
I find them more entertaining than annoying. Frozen ground there / soft ground here, one layer of foil between the two but they say it doesn't work. You gotta love it brother :-D
@@noroads1427 I finally talked my friend into doing this under his floor. he has a full basement beneath but his house was always cold. He uses HALF the firewood now and floors are warm. I spent a lot of time in the Homer area in the mid 80's. You live in some beautiful country.
Please, don't take the negative commentators to heart, don't internalize the haters! The rest of us LOVE this wisdom you are sharing, .....focus on the positive!! Otherwise, they spoil your day.
I used bubble foil in my cabin floor because you spoke highly of it and I am really impressed with it. Congrats on 100k subscribers (looks like you'll hit it any moment)! Thats an incredible accomplishment.
Hey Boss!!!! My wife just gave you another piece of ammunition. What do people use in their windshields in the summertime? What is it for? That's right!!! BUBBLEFOIL!!!! It's used to lower the amount of radiant heat coming through their windshield. The only difference between your application and the windshield is that you're trying to hold heat in, while the windshield screen is keeping it out. People, ask yourselves, "Why would sun shades be so popular at keeping the inside of your car cooler than without it if the product didn't work?" I've got a saying in our family Boss that I think you'd agree with. Rule #1 in any situation is "Remove head from Ass". Keep up the great videos Boss. We love ya!!!
we were glued to this one. we have to insulate still, no running water in the cabin yet and need to do the under the cabin stuff yet so this is helpful info. I would rather do it ONCE without error...gosh is January almost over???? I retired one year ago today from the law firm and began retirement the 24th so I am in a celebratory mood and I swear I had commented to you a million times I just wanted to get to my cabin....and have been here five months now....and it is not completed and not even that close but I am giddy in my journey...giddy happy..I helped carry wood and water in today and cooked and cleaned but otherwise read a book. did you ever read the clan of the cave bear earth children series? I am finishing book 3 of 6. I had on flannel shirt and pj bottoms and no make up since retirement and Jim and I laughed at our freedom to be comfortable and real and not dressing to go to a job with what the employer expects....off grid freedom....blessings to you boss...huge blessings, juanita mae
Jim, I'm amazed that people don't get it. You have enough conviction about the product to continue to talk about it. Heck, I saw you use it at the New York cabin. I'm in Michigan, and since I saw you use it, we swear by it. Thanks again
I used it in my outhouse floor and it definitely works. I made the mistake of not doing it in my cabin floor which was built before the outhouse and I wish I had. But, because of how well it worked in my outhouse floor, I ended up deciding to use it in my cabin ceiling. It's a gable roof but I created a small attic space by putting up 2x4s from one side to the other, horizontal with the floor. Then I just stapled the bubble foil to the joists and then outside the cabin I have soffit vents along the overhang. In the small attic space I have 2 exhaust vents on the peak of the roof to allow the ceiling to breathe. The venting is important to pull the moisture out of the cabin in the summer and prevent ice dams in the winter. After only adding the bubble foil alone, the temperature inside my cabin in the morning on a cold winter night only gets down to the high 50s at worst. Before the bubble foil where I only had the plywood and shingles, the cabin would end up in the 40s or below when I woke up unless I tended the fire at 3:00-4:00 AM. My thermometer doesn't have an agenda and didn't lie to me. Hahaha. They can say whatever they want, I am also very happy with it.
Ok... I got to be honest here. So Boss has been building houses longer than probably any viewer here. He has showed some of his carpentry work on a episode and absolutely amazing. You watch him build his cabin and shed and he knows what he is doing. Listen to someone who knows what works. He is sharing this to help all of us that watch his channel. I really enjoy watching your channel and I have learned a lot from you. Thanks Boss..!
I've lived in a remote area of the Southern Californian Mojave Desert for the past 44 years. The cold (which I've always hated), is not a problem. However, fire ants, and rodents of all sizes and types, plus July, August, and September heat of 110 degrees F. daily are. Your video blog is fascinating, and even though I'm now 82 and my heavy construction days have passed, your explanation and demonstration of the use of bubble wrap has me thinking that if bubble wrap works to block the cold, it may also work to block out the heat... Thank you for your video, and I consistently thank TH-cam for the priceless content shown on it.
Hi Jim I can’t believe I can leave you a post I finally figured out how to fix my error message I’ve been watching you for year. You’re a man after my own heart. I to am a master carpenter for 35 years. You did a great job be proud and enjoy! God bless.
I used it on my shooting house for deer hunting ! The flooring is 1/4 round decking boards and there are spaces between each board ! So bubble foil stops the air flow and insulates the door ! Thank you Boss !😅
Boss I see my user name isn’t my name ! My name is Joe Billian my wife’s name is Anita we moved out to the country 30 years ago! I bought 3 acres ! Now I have neighbors everywhere around me! Great update Boss. Some folks consider themselves a genius .... until they start typing or talking. Then game over. I am so happy you continue teaching and entertaining . These same know it nothings would drive out in the country and lecture a farmer on how to farm better . No one can fool the truth . it just is, never needs an audience. I would guess the negative commentators are the type of folks that would : On the way to a bass tournament, stop by a big box store , buy a can of never leak , spray it on the $15,000.00 bass boat ( because the can says " stops leaks instantly") , drive the 4 hours , drop the rig in the water, and be bailing water in 2 hours , asking for a tow before their rig sinks . Same folks that could not open a can of beans in a power outage because their electric can opener does not work ! Keep giving us the good stuff boss . Your families efforts , to share what you know is appreciated. Say would the " other .. smart " viewers be interested in the opportunity of a lifetime , for just one dollar ( plus shipping) in a franchise to sell rocket stoves made in America out of wood? They have 1 minutes warranty's ! What could go wrong? he he
You are doing a great job on your channel ! Your experience and hands on work is a pleasure to watch and learn from ! My father passed when I was 21 . That was 40 years ago. I have had to learn from others young and old to walk My path through life . The wife and I work as a team on all our projects . We have had a farm with all the animals and now been off grid for 16 years . We have taken Lots of pics over the years , do to co-workers and friends not believing what we are capable of. Have invited all of them over the years to come out and visit or camp . All no shows ! They can keep their city life and energy bills, higher property taxes and crime. Keep up the good work , we will keep watching and learning ! !
We appreciate your videos. As hard as it is, stop worrying about the comments from people who know nothing about anything. I'd rather continue to watch your progress in a cabin in the mountains. The same place I wish I was at..
We live in Central Montana and we know about cold! Last February the average daily temp was about 0.5 degrees. We live in a mobile home that is skirted, but had no insulation. We would have all of the base cabinet doors open at night and let the water trickle just to make sure it didn't freeze. It was so cold, we were having frost heaves under the house. You could hear the house creaking and groaning. This past summer, we decided to try the foil-faced bubblewrap. We placed it on the inside of the studs that the skirting attaches to, in a continuous run to keep seams to a minimum. It runs from the bottom of the house down to the ground. The first cold spell we had this year, the outside temperature was -14. I opened the access panel and took a temperature measurement about 6 feet inside and the thermometer registered 36 degrees. When I opened the access, I could feel the warm air coming out! So far, we've had temps in the range of 0 to -20. No open cabinets, no trickling water and my heat tape (which is thermostatically controlled) has barely run. It works!
Bubble foil works 100 percent on my brick walls in my basement i covered the cold brick the wall and the room is so much warmer try it dont dought something you havent tryed reflectix is the best thing. Jc ever reccommend thank you so much for the idea
Excellent!! I luv it, and will be using your technique with the bubble foil on my tiny house!! Keep up the loving sharing you do. Many of us really need to information you share. And we TRUELY, APPRECIATE YOU. AND YOUR LUV OF SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCES WITH OTHERS.!!!😍😃👍👍👍👍👍
Since you showed us this method of insulating floors in your upstate NY cabin, I have used it twice. Once in my own off grid cabin in the mountains of VA and once for a customer. It works wonderfully. Thank you, Boss, for sharing your knowledge and insight.
Best flooring insulation for my off grid log cabin in northern Indiana. No rodents or bugs of any sorts! And it's all because of you my friend! Thank you and be kind out there people👍
I have a cabin on Amos Run Hunt club in cowen west virginia and will be doing this to my cabin..the roof and walls are fully insulated but the floor is like ice!
Was wondering if you can use the bubble foil insulation on the inside of the cabin floor, like under my flooring? Or would that just flatten out the bubble wrap and defeat the insulative property? I only ask as my shed to cabin did not come with an insulated floor and it is just sitting on skids over a gravel base. I am located in northern WI (Mercer, in the snowbelt of Lake Superior and lots of nights below zero).Ideally my cabin needs to be raised (have any suggestions on how to do that??) and put in the proper insulation. I was thinking about spray foam or the 2" pink board, but after watching your videos, I know to shy away from either product due to the problems with ant infestation. The last two winters I have had success using straw bales around the base of the cabin in combination with the 2" pink board which I cut to 2 ft wide sections and put between the exterior cabin wall base and the straw bales. R value works out to be around R-25 to R-35 for the cabin base. It helps quite a bit but I still feel a draft on the floor. Even at that it is easy to maintain a temp of 70F. In Spring I use my straw bales for my straw bale garden. I did my walls and ceiling with rock wool insulation which works great. My roof has a ridge vent (which I have left open). I heat with a natural gas Jotul stove, direct-vented out the wall and have no moisture problems in the cabin. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks, Nancy...yes, it's a women's venture!
Trolls just troll all the time. You proved your point on the bubble foil that it works in the first video. Thank you for your 3rd video which proves beyond any doubt that the bubble foil works.
I followed the advice you gave about using it in a cooler. I put it in a large 72? Qt cooler. Lined the whole inside and made a removable piece that goes over the top of the food and ice. It went from maybe a day and half to 3 even 4 days of holding ice! Who needs a several hundred dollar cooler, when you can buy a roll of this stuff and have similar results with a cheap cooler. Thanks as always for the great advice!
We have 120 year old cabin at around 9000 alt. I have been trying to figure how to protect the floor without supporting the rodents. Your the man. Kudos!
I can't even tell you how many times I have told groups on fb about your technic and encouraged them to watch your video. I am slowly remodeling my home and using this. I thank you so much for the update and all you share. Much love from Florida.
I've been researching crawl space and floor insolation for a while now. Your solution looks my answer. My cabin is fine down to -15 to -20F or so, below that I have some frozen water pipe problems in the crawl space. but northern Minnesota gets to -25F a lot and wind chill is -35 to -40F too many days. Your use of bubble foil looks like the perfect solution to give me the extra protection. Cheaper, easier to install and far less mess. And yes, all contractors are telling me only to use either thick foam board or spray foam for $1000s. You have a new subscriber. Thank you!
My Amish neighbour's use the bubble foil. I'm also using it. If anyone doesn't like it, don't use it. It works for me. As they say," you can lead a horse to water", well you know the rest.
Foiled my house floor no other insulation then layer tongue & grove advantech 3/4” all I use for heating is a small wood burning cook stove & SURPRISE my feet don’t get cold ! I hate cold feet. btw, it also acts as a vapor barrier! So JC , IT WORKS ! I watched that video n got this idea from you buddy. Glad I did too ! God bless buddy 😄
Boss, I've used the foil insulation on a cabin roof and did not regret it, I just Spray Foamed the roof recently but will be repurposing the foil insulation to the skirting & under the floors. Works like a charm and I credit you with keeping our cabin warm the last several years. Thanks !!
James...In keeping with your "back woods logic", I recently installed a 50 cfm fan that grabs hot air from the peak of my cathedral ceiling and pumps it thru a hollow beam down into my 4 ft crawl space when the thermostat down there falls below 60 degrees. Works 'fan'tastic and doesn't cost me 'chit' to run. I'm also one of those "think outside the box" persons, but your examples have really pushed me beyond my prior limits. I suppose my highest compliment would be when I think, how would "The Boss" solve this"? You are a HUGE inspiration to Many of us, And God Bless....~Eli.
Hi Boss and Lori, I can't believe that this video came up, only this morning I asked my mate who used bubble foil on his park home how it was standing up. After showing him your video about a year or so ago , his reply was its great had no rodents and the floor was warmer, and several others on the park had done the same. So what else can I say except stay safe look after yourselves and give the Kids a pet from me 😊
Boss i tell all newbie cabin builder about the bubble foil wrap and yes so many respond to say it doesn't work or the r value isn't worth the time nor money. Yet i tell them to check your videos out. Your #1
This stuff is the greatest! I have been using it everywhere for about three years. I figure the reason it works so well is that it acts as a draft barrier as well as a small amount of insulation. The wind can't penetrate it and take the heat with it. Like a space blanket.
@@snowflakemelter1172 , maybe you misunderstand the book you read. Keeping something warm or cool from a adjacent temperature influence would be insulation.
@@snowflakemelter1172 There are times when a term (insulation) is used to describe something and subsequent testing shows that "air infiltration barrier" would more accurately be the descriptor. I suggest trying it, see the results and THEN comment. When someone comments from the point of view of "insulation" when the actual benefit is preventing "conditioned air loss" the comment can be true but off base. I would rather see comments trying to help the youtuber explain what they observed. Let's see the naysayers do what he did and see what results they get... I'm prepping to do this under mom's mobile home to reduce her "conditioned air" loss and reduce her electric bill. True, it would be cheaper to staple up thick plastic to prevent air flow, but I like that it has a little R-value and will last longer.
I really enjoy your videos! Your no-nonsense, tell it like it is delivery, is refreshing. Thank you for sharing the ideas you use that work! Keep it coming!
We are in Michigan and hubby and I used it on a lake cottage renovation both for over our cement slab and our wooden porch floor that is cantilevered over an open crawl space. There are carpenter ant nests outside of the wall so good to know about them and the foam board! No problems with this and the mini split we use for heat has been very economical.
Thank you. I realize I’m not the brightest bulb but this video reexplains your technique and how you install two different ways. You paint an easy to understand picture...again. Appreciate the time you take with your viewers. You are an excellent teacher!
Boss, I came acrooss 2 Channels that love watching your videos an followed your advice for the floor of their cabin they were building and they said they got it from you and they did it, and it's working out great, after 2 years!
We use bubblewrap inside our pop top camper which has canvas sides. With the bubblewrap it has helped tremendously with keeping the cabin warm inside. Great stuff!
I rebuilt a 1973 GMC motor home back in 97. The coach floor is much closer to the road than other motor homes. Heat transfer from the hot summer pavement is a real problem. We put a layer of bubble foil down first then carpet pad and carpet. Big improvement. Added bonus was the sound reduction as well. I love the stuff!!
Ive watched you long enough to know you can be trusted! You dont even have to tell people, but since you have there is always those who didn’t discover it first!!!! You know what your doing!!!
100% agree about the bubble wrap for the flooring. Took your advice gave it a try and haven't regretted yet, thanks. Always going to have armchair quarterbacks. Hugs to Frankie & Tildy. Blessings to you & Laurie.
Okay, her I go! I'm 62 and have done many things in my life including working on houses. I have watched your videos from the first one. Your a straight shooter, just the way I like it. When I watch your building videos I'm amazed at your knowledge and skill. EVERY THING you have ever covered in your vids is right on the mark. That truck tool box buried in the crawlspace is friggin genius, another great idea but I'm sure some expert will find fault with it. Have a great day.
I respect you putting your experience out there for those who are interested. It may not be for everyone, but that is not the point. I am grateful for the original videos as it helped me to successfully winter over in an RV in Upstate New York. I have not seen you oppressing anyone with your perspective, and I am grateful for that. Different strokes for different folks. Love and blessings to you all!
I TRUST ya Boss. I can't believe you are STILL having to 'justify' the use of this 'foil'. I 'scored' a HUGE truckload of it thru a tenant/hoarder from a local mfgr that was cleaning up their yard of 'seconds'. We used some to insulate the crawl space under a 'shack' we hauled in 2 years ago. 'Naysayers' be damned, the cost of heating that shack, (so far), this Winter has been less than HALF! AND, Zero rodent problems. I'M a 'believer'. Take THAT 'haters'.
@@snowflakemelter1172 science was right about co2 and human caused global warming too right.oh wait that's religion sorry. The polar ice caps continue to grow.
@woodspirit98....LOL. Well said. "Human caused Global Warming" indeed. When compared to the size of our 'Earth', humans are a pimple on an elephant's butt. Rufus/DOOFUS is just another idiot that gets force fed his 'science' from the loudest 'screamer'....JMHO.....~Eli.
Hi Boss we feel you don't have to justify yourself. After my husband watched your video on bubble foil he went out and bought some and attach it to the skirting around his wood shop and it's working out fantastically.👍👍
Good morning JC & Lori. You are such a good guy to share your success with bubble foil. Taking folks along with your journey is a lot of hard work, as other folks who make videos will attest. I am broken record when I say I don't have the time to farm, work part time off the farm and have a personal life AND produce You Tube videos! Just our farm is 24/7 for my husband and his brother. I run around and take up the slack. Thank you, my friend, for all the sharing you do along the way. I will suggest the bubble foil route to my sister who just purchased an older mobile home that needs insulation underneath. I know you and Lori are keeping warm this week with your fine Kitchen Queen. Our kitchen wood stove has been heating our kitchen/ living room area non stop. All the best!
Unfortunately, too many people are stuck in their ways. Old dogs.. new tricks. The foil would create a great air barrier. How many times do people need to see that it works?
Seen your first video and decided to try it under our cabin. First year we put a thermometer under and kept an eye on the temp all winter. Never seen it drop below freezing even when it was -30° out. The next year we put a 46 gallon RV water tank and 12v water pump under there. Haven't had 1 problem with water or pump freezing. Bubble works great for us!!! Someone always has to be an ass! It's there loss if they can't listen! Love all the tips and tricks! Keep it up!!
I have watched all the 'bubble foil' videos you've made and am a believer! We live for part of the winter in our cabin in the Yukon. It is an old log cabin that has very little clearance under the original floor. We plan to eventually remove the old floor and put in a new one that will level things out inside. This will be such great information for then. We also added an addition on the cabin for a kitchen that has about 2 feet of space under it. I spend much of the winter cooking with frozen feet! There is a woodstove in the kitchen that keeps the upper part of the room warm enough. But, OMGee...the floor freezes! We are dealing with -10 to -40C temperatures. My water buckets freeze if I leave them on the floor and my waste water from the sink bucket is an ice cube. I am so excited to try this out! Thank you so much for this information!
We have a walk-in unfinished basement with our cabin. It was vacant for several years. We tore out the insulation because the mice made nests in there. We are thinking about insulation under the main floor but have done nothing yet except plug up every hole that led to the main level. I think we will try the bubble wrap as you suggest under the floor above the basement and in the short walls of the basement too and see how it does. It's a vacation cabin but we go there several times a year in all seasons, including winter. Thanks for reminding about the bubble wrap! Those citrus fruits look good!
Well done my friend. Awesome science. I', a veteran builder and have created and built several off grid systems including one we live in now. This product works well. Pei Canada says kudos to my friend. Naysayers be damned. Awesome
I'm SO THANKFUL for your help!!! I've searched TH-cam for reviews about this stuff!! Lol I can only find dealers selling points. My son is going to build mama a studio shed. I'll be using bubble foil!!! Ye haw thanks again for alllll of your videos. And thanks for the answers about insulating the rest of the cabin. Hi Frankie and mom!!
Good to see ya Boss, you don't have to convince me about bubble foil i have been using it for 10 years, I did find out were the Beer is hid! lol take care boss and Lori
It totally makes since that it works so well to me. I've done a lot of minimalist backpacking and the sleeping pad I used was basically a blow up version of that. the air in the bubbles helps but it's really the reflective property that in my opinion makes it work so well that it seem unbelievable. Think about emergency blankets - they are just foil with no air and they'll keep you warm enough although they may not be really cozy and comfortable.
Boss been with you since the start, nice to see your channel getting real big..hope your well. Dont let the trolls or newbies smack talk and ruin your mood. Your an inspiration friend! always will be..
@@thebossoftheswamp hahah thats it! They are just trolls haten. i would bet 200% they know nothing about your channel and progress over the years..we got our first troll and i have been doing just the same laphing at his comments. You have been an inspiration since day one Boss. Your channel should have 1mill subs in my mind...One day it will and i will be right here with ya and Franky and the wifey. Have a good weekend!
My husband and I really appreciate your bubble foil tip. He bought a roll and is using it in the garage and I will use it in the Chicken house. If it weren’t for you, we would never have known about it. Thank you. Thank you.
Yet another video worth rewatching. I showed this video to my old man when you 1st put it out and he really liked how you put the aluminum truck tool box partly into the ground. He used to be a driver-salesman for Falstaff brewing in the 70's and then for an A-B beer wholesaler so he noticed you had cold beer in the toolbox.
Another awesome video. Wicked idea with the tool box for food storage. Bubble foil is great stuff and I plan to use it under are cabin floor in the spring. Always have great ideas . Cheers from NB Canada.
Before I fire up my calculator and try to slam the method used here... Facts are: 1. the floor is warmer, 2. the crawl space is above freezing, 3. The mice and insects are kept at bay 4. Massive beer fridge! .... Seems like a win x4 to me! This was super helpful for me and thank you for sharing your experiences! Keep it up!
Used this stuff in the engine room of my canal boat between the steel hull and the 6mm ply that covers it. Made a heck of a difference. Bearing in mind I am basically a steel box surrounded by water. In other places I packed the gunnel space with 50mm foil backed insulation. I have to replace some rotten flooring and plan to put some underneath. Incidentally, I built the insulated cool box you inspired me to. Holes at the bottom draw cold air from floor level (I plan to drill a hole to the bilge where it's REALLY cold!) and holes at the top rear to let the warm air out. I bought a marble tile for the bottom and so far it keeps everything much better than before. UHT milk lasts twice as long as it used to just in an ordinary cupboard! Getting a computer fan to see if I can improve it any. Cupboard is 18mm ply (scrap I got given) and 25mm expanded polystyrene on three sides. Cheap, cheerful and it works!
Back in the 1990's We lived in a 19 foot RV to follow his work. I tried the foam board inside my vinyl skirting and wow! It was a mess with the ant's. The only other thing I could find was the roll of bubble wrap. We used it in all the inside cubbies and on windows inside the RV. I was surprised and happy it worked so well. My inside pipes no longer froze. (Still had to use electric wrap on water pipes and hoses on the outside). It was also easier to heat the inside of the RV with a small oil filled electric heater. (The RV heater used too much propane and ran out too fast). This was long before I found your channel and watch your excellent videos. Keep up your great work!
Hi there Boss, Lori and fur babies. It's amazing how some people just don't understand bubble foil and the benefits. We just shake our heads and smile at the simple minds. We appreciate your time and stories that educate us. Keep up the good work. Sending rubs for the fur babies. In our thoughts and prayers. God Bless y'all and the fur babies ✌❤😁
Sir I like your way of proven results with Bubble Wrap! Like the ole saying “ the prove is in the pudding “ if it works for you out in the country then who can say it doesn’t work. If I was lucky enough to have a cabin in the woods Sir I would follow your example indeed! This would be a dream if I would have thought more about living a simple life style such as you and your beautiful companion. Alas I am too old and I am not as young as you folks are so it’s not an option. I always enjoy watching your videos because you had a dream when you were young and you followed your dreams and now you folks are adding more things like a garden to supplement your diet with fresh fruit and vegetables. I also love the rock fence to add to your land to beautify your surroundings. You both look so healthy living an active life style together in the woods. I could add I think you are a genius with how you built your cabin and sheds for extra storage. I love the storage container under your cabin and used wisely.👍
After hearing about it from the Boss, I used reflectix in a sauna I built. I used it between the joists and sub floor, insulated the walls with fiberglass, and used reflectix between the studs and interior boards as the radiant shell. It works like a charm. Man am I not sorry I built that thing! Thanks Boss reflectix is great stuff, just like your videos!
@@gregi5850 I used only reflectix directly under the subfloor. It works great, I but I’m in South Texas. The packaging shows an installation method in which you leave an air gap between the reflectix and the subfloor, so between the joists instead of on top of them. If I lived where it was colder I might have insulated the floor with the same material and left an air gap for more r value, but it seemed unnecessary where I live. Cool project, good luck to you sir!
Jim is absolutely correct. This product is a radiant heat reflective insulation product. 1 layer on the floor, 2 on the walls, 3 layers on the ceiling. When putting multiple layers, include a half inch dead air gap between the layers. Also use a quality aluminum tape recommended for on the seems. To keep a small cabin warm, you may only need 1, 2, or 3 candles before it gets too warm. This is a radiant reflective insulation, so you need a low and slow approach only to be comfortably warm. You can also cut and form it over the the hinge part of the door where it swings open. You can also create a long tube or v flashing where your door can seel the jam on the bottom, handle, and top side. Great video Jim, I love your passion.
Heck yeah Boss you’re spot on. Before I started watching you a few years back I built a nice little coyote shooting shack and insulated with free foam board I scored. Sure enough the ants had a field day with it. Bubble foil is just good backwoods logic. Ha. You guys are the best. TJ
Great video Boss . You sold me on bubble foil on your first video building the extension to the New York cabin . Some people don't understand how to use it . Once the foil is down and the flooring is installed on top you must cover the floor with a plastic tarp until the building is enclosed . This keeps the rain water from going in between the foil and the flooring . I guess you could caulk the seams but why not protect the flooring . That tarp must be kept in good condition until the building is enclosed .That's when you can cut the tarp out . Gorilla tape is good for that if you get small holes or tears in the plastic .. Some people don't like walking on a tarp while building . That's their problem . The small amount of heat loose through the floor because of the way you installed the foil is a blessing for you . Nothing freezes in the crawl space . Great idea in partial burying that aluminum box for food storage .
I live in a 3 bedroom ranch in the city. I use the Reflectix bubble wrap in all the windows in the summer, to reflect the sun and some of the heat back outwards. It helps just enough so that my AC doesn't have to work so hard. I also use it in the basement, putting it above the heating ductwork to reflect heat in the winter and AC in the summer. After seeing this video, the first I have watched on your channel, I may use it on the upper basement walls(monolithic concrete) that are not under ground. I am now a new subscriber.
Unbelievable that someone would think your actually heating your crawl space to make a point about the bubble insulation. Maybe they also think you poured concrete under the snow to make believe the ground was frozen. Better yet your running an air conditioner outside off your generator to bring your outside thermometer down to 2 degrees...I don’t know. Wait yes I do know, if you open your eyes and ears you can learn something new every day from someone. Even if I already know something your showing us on your channel I watch and learn from from all the bits and pieces of information you supply. Thank you my friend for sharing your knowledge!
You can't tell ignorant people anything, I'm glad to learn things from you. Thank you and God bless, walt from Wisconsin.
I discussed this with a contractor friend who agreed with the Boss about the integrity of the area under the house. This man is no one's fool.
@@thebossoftheswamp Using this way off-grid in Alaska's kenai peninsula. Thanks for the advise 👍
@@noroads1427 I finally talked my friend into doing this under his floor. he has a full basement beneath but his house was always cold. He uses HALF the firewood now and floors are warm.
I spent a lot of time in the Homer area in the mid 80's. You live in some beautiful country.
@@thebossoftheswamp Thanks brother! Homer is wonderful. Great videos, helping lots of folks for sure. God bless!

Nobody spoils my day so no worries. I didn't make the video for them :-)))
I used bubble foil in my cabin floor because you spoke highly of it and I am really impressed with it. Congrats on 100k subscribers (looks like you'll hit it any moment)! Thats an incredible accomplishment.
I watch your channel also
He inspired me to do the same.. I have 0 regrets with 100% results
Thank you buddy.
Bubble bashers be gone. Thanks for sharing.
Works well for hammock camping too.
we were glued to this one. we have to insulate still, no running water in the cabin yet and need to do the under the cabin stuff yet so this is helpful info.
Same in Northern Indiana my friend! Mice and bug free as well👍
Rich Wicklund me too I am also in Michigan and I would use it no problem!
My subfloor is going into the UP cabin this week. Bubble foil it is! Just ordered it! 👏
Building Science is the key
Thank you Brian :-)
The buried aluminum truck tool box is genius! Excellent idea to keep thinks at ground temperature. Thank you!

Thank you for saying so :-)
Installed it under my floor at my cabin in Maine 12 years ago has worked great.
Any skirting or bat insulation or just between the subfloor and joists open air?
We appreciate your videos. As hard as it is, stop worrying about the comments from people who know nothing about anything. I'd rather continue to watch your progress in a cabin in the mountains. The same place I wish I was at..
Not a worry in the world ;-))
We live in Central Montana and we know about cold!
I have been a mechanical insulator for almost 30 years when that bubble wrap came out I laughed at it but found out it works awesome
Built a 8x8 bathroom at camp this summer and used bubble foil on my floor and it works flawlessly. Thanks boss.
Love your attitude and your sense of humor.
Kudos!
0 don't let these people get to you. I appreciate you! I've learned a lot from you. You & yours carry on. With the greatest respect..
I can't even tell you how many times I have told groups on fb about your technic and encouraged them to watch your video. I am slowly remodeling my home and using this. I thank you so much for the update and all you share. Much love from Florida.
Most are talked out of using it due to the R factor alone.
Wow BOSS you should be proud of all the work you have done!!! Especially in growing your channel that's awsome. Love your channel I've learned so much
Thank you :-)
I've been researching crawl space and floor insolation for a while now. Thank you!
We lived in northern NY and the coldest temp we had was -38F without wind chill factor. The performance of this stuff is amazing.
Boss my husband used the bubble foil on the floor of his work shop cause we took your advice. It is rodent free an toasty warm.
My Amish neighbour's use the bubble foil. I'm also using it. If anyone doesn't like it, don't use it. It works for me. As they say," you can lead a horse to water", well you know the rest.
Just the foil? Or together with bat insulation?
Foiled my house floor no other insulation then layer tongue & grove advantech 3/4” all I use for heating is a small wood burning cook stove & SURPRISE my feet don’t get cold ! I hate cold feet. btw, it also acts as a vapor barrier! So JC , IT WORKS ! I watched that video n got this idea from you buddy. Glad I did too ! God bless buddy 😄
BOSS ! Anyone who questions your building knowledge doesnt have a clue. Keep positive vhope you and the wife are enjoying your camp..cheers mike pa
Boss, I've used the foil insulation on a cabin roof and did not regret it, I just Spray Foamed the roof recently but will be repurposing the foil insulation to the skirting & under the floors. Works like a charm and I credit you with keeping our cabin warm the last several years. Thanks !!
Good to hear from you Jerry. It's been a while ;-)
Lol.. I trusted you over a year ago before I built my cabin.. I did this to mine.. guess what? I'm still trusting you.. cause it works!..
That's awesome. I had an inline pipe fan doing the same thing in my old place. I only ran it when needed.
Hi Boss and Lori, I can't believe that this video came up, only this morning I asked my mate who used bubble foil on his park home how it was standing up. After showing him your video about a year or so ago , his reply was its great had no rodents and the floor was warmer, and several others on the park had done the same. So what else can I say except stay safe look after yourselves and give the Kids a pet from me 😊
Your phone listen to you! It happens to me all the time!
That's not how insulation works.
@@snowflakemelter1172 , maybe you misunderstand the book you read. Keeping something warm or cool from a adjacent temperature influence would be insulation.
@@snowflakemelter1172 - You sound like a broken record. It reflects rather than insulate. Find a new line to use.
I don't have a use for this at this time in my life, but it's good to watch and learn for when I do. Thanks BossMan. Have a great week!!
I have the same bubble foil in my cabin. It has been 15 years now with NO issues. Best thing I have ever used. Great video!
Great video Boss! Glad you're still out there educating us with useful tips living remotely!
I built a 12x16 log cabin put that stuff in my floor 5 years ago after watching you do it and it works perfect no ants no mice
I like the idea, and will try it on my trailer this summer.
Bubble Foil all the way.... I was convinced the first time you demonstrated how you installed it. Thanks for the update! I am still impressed in 2020!

I'm working on an update to this video and I hope to have it out this week. It will show this insulation after 5 years etc. Stay tuned :-)
I saw the first video about bubble foil the day you put that up n thought...it works...good enuf for me.
Its been tested under scientific conditions and it has no insulation value, do you doubt that ?
@@snowflakemelter1172 Boss of the Swamp tested it under REAL conditions in the woods. Do you doubt that?

Hi Boss we feel you don't have to justify yourself. After my husband watched your video on bubble foil he went out and bought some and attach it to the skirting around his wood shop and it's working out fantastically.👍👍
I have faith in you and your knowledge and because of that I'll be using it in our new shed, thank you for sharing the info and God Bless.
Thank you again for sharing your proven experience. It makes a difference for those of us who listen and learn.
Unfortunately, too many people are stuck in their ways. Old dogs.. new tricks. The foil would create a great air barrier. How many times do people need to see that it works?
I find all your videos priceless. However, it is just spending time with you that is the greatest gift of all. God Bless!
Thank you and God Bless :-)
We all know you are the BILLIONAIRE KING of the Acme Bubble Foil Company! :-)
Yep, I think he's a member of a top secret bubble foil syndicate!!!
Yep. I suspected as much.
😄
I yank his chain because I like to see him laugh but Boss is a genius who has taught me a great deal!
You can blow my cover but you can't pop my bubble foil ;-D
You won't be disappointed. This stuff works awesome.
Wow! Thanks so much. I live in a double wide with plastic/fiberglass skirting. Nothing on the back side. Now I know what to use. Such a good idea.
LOOKING GOOD BOSS! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS! I PUT THAT UNDER BATHROOM FLOOR AND ITS WORKING GREAT! THANKS!
i used it in 2000 on my double wide walls under the siding and in my crawl space...i'm with you ..excellent product..................
Awesome
Thank you :-)
I'm SO THANKFUL for your help!!!
Thank you for your time and effort to help others with your information. Many of us greatly appreciate your effort.
Good to see ya Boss, you don't have to convince me about bubble foil i have been using it for 10 years, I did find out were the Beer is hid! lol take care boss and Lori
I would take your word over anyone's, Boss ! Congrats on 100,000 subscribers ! Very well deserved brother ! See you on the next one !
Thank you brother :-)
It totally makes since that it works so well to me. I've done a lot of minimalist backpacking and the sleeping pad I used was basically a blow up version of that. the air in the bubbles helps but it's really the reflective property that in my opinion makes it work so well that it seem unbelievable. Think about emergency blankets - they are just foil with no air and they'll keep you warm enough although they may not be really cozy and comfortable.

Falstaff Beer. That was back in the good ol days.
I love the bubble wrap!! Best thing I've ever learned to use! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you and God Bless :-))
Boss keep doing what works for you, the hell with the rest. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you for your continuous kind words my friend.
Blessings to you and yours ;-)
And God’s blessings to you and your companion!
Hi Did you only use Bubble Foil on the floor, or did you add any other insulation? I'm building a Backwoods Sauna. How is floor temp? Thanks
Bubble foil works great to keep your apples from freezing, but doesn't Shield you from know-it-all opinions😁
One Video is good for me BOSS, You do great work and I for one trust your ways. You have nothing to prove. Thanks for posting
