    I'll add another comment here. These really seem like the holsters new , unguided if you will , gun owners buy. Then these holsters become the ones that start the holster box we all have and never see the light of day again.

    I won't use a holster without some kind of strong retention. If it doesn't pass the upside down with a fully loaded magazine (empty chamber) shake test it goes straight into the gun junk tote.

    As others stated, the Serpa knockoff is a no-go. Also, I thought we all agreed that soft-sided holsters should be avoided. Reminds me of the old Uncle Mike "universal" holsters. I usually run the the Safariland ALS 6378 holster for EDC and a Blade-Tech for competitions.

      Yeah we did agree that. But for a P-01 it’s probably ok. Or a revolver. I mean I wouldn’t do it. I’m just saying it isn’t completely insane in all cases. (Maybe, idk)

    Looks like stuff I got on ebay. Most instructors won’t let you have any holsters with finger lock buttons on them. I mastered it with my M9, but it takes time.

    I Took a look at 6 of their holsters as well, including very hard to find APX A1 & also difficult to fit BCA Grizzly went in the G17 ok. The Eco Leather is ok if fit is good for some or DA/SA carry

    Don't know about their kidex holsters, but I got a Houston soft IWB holster for my LCR 3" and it's extremely confortable, afordable and durable. It exceeded all my expectations. It has a belt clip, but is more comfortable than a sticky or remora holster

    Hello HR. Is it Wednesday already?😀 I've found that the screws and attachment points for different carry options add to the thickness of the holster. That makes it harder to conceal. The old leather Askins Avenger style is still my favorite OWB holster. Warmer weather today, heading for the range.

    Chief, too many gizmo's, gadgets , buttons, velcro, screws and excuses for me. The only holsters, belts and magazine pouches I will every buy (for 30+ years now) are Kramer Leather HORSEHIDE! If you have never had one you won't get why they are just so far superior to everything else. They are a lifetime investment that never wears out - at least mine haven't in 30+ years. When ever I get a new EDC, my first call is to Kramer to order anew rig. Wait times are 12-15 weeks because of the demand and uncompromising custom made quality. They are not cheap but worth every dime! I have no connection what so ever to Kramer Leather and they would not know me if they ran me over, so I have no horse in tis race - just touting great stuff.

    Lumpy IWB kydex with sweat guard wing is not comfortable for me either. The only IWB I use now is Crossbreed Supertuck horsehide. Flat leather against your skin works for me.

    Good video so I'm not knocking that. However...the holsters. The kydex ones , well they're kydex so yeah ok ish. The ish being those serpa holsters are trouble waiting to happen. I'd be curious about how long that lining would hold up on the other kydex. As for the soft ones. They look cheap, do they seem that way holding them ? Now I have a couple good , leather soft holsters. I have them for 1 reason, in the house. They come in really handy (bed stand , shelf, etc wherever someone puts a carry gun when it's not locked up) for keeping my carry gun in a holster, especially by the bed , trigger covered yadda yadda without having to take my primary holster off my belt/pants all the time.

    I recently discovered your channel, good stuff. I appreciate your reviews. Curious question, were you a 2111? I swear I had met a Cpl Funk when I was stationed at Pendleton from '95-'99 (WFTBn and 15th MEU). Semper Fi

    The only active retention lvl2 holster i use is a Safariland ALS with the thumb button. Fast, easy, intuitive and not horribly priced.
    Howard i have a brand new one for a 1911 in the box if you want to review lvl2 holsters for the congregation
    I appreciate Houston Holsters for thinking of us and hope they know we want them to be successful and impress people with their products.
    For me? Good start but for right now its a no from me.
    If they make a lined kydex IWB for a 2.5" K frame...im all ears

      Thank you. I’ve been using holsters of various “security levels” since the late 1980”s. Interestingly, the “levels” were largely an invention of the holster manufacturers. They were created as much for marketing purposes (to law enforcement officers) as for any other purpose. I was an early proponent of the Safariland SSIII, but a lot of people were not fans of that model. The “Level 2” options varied widely in their design. I think generically, level 2 simply meant “easier than the SSIII.” In any case, thanks for the offer Nate!

    The type of release device is dangerous. Very similar to the Serpa and a Serpa is no go.

    • @hrfunk

      I'm not a fan of them either, but a lot of companies are making them.

    • @skipboyer1889
      @skipboyer1889 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@hrfunkYeah, it’s a real problem for those that shoot themselves by using one. Guns & Ammo tried to show how “safe” they are and a slow motion view of their video, by a “gun expert” I might add, shows that he put his finger in the trigger guard, and on the trigger, during his expert draw stroke. There are more than one national pistol trainers that do not allow that style on their ranges nor in their classes. For good reason.

    • @johnherr3579

      @@skipboyer1889 The Serpa release is more in line with the trigger guard. This one looks to be higher up on the slide. I still wouldn't use one.

    • @skipboyer1889
      @skipboyer1889 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @johnherr3579 The motion is wrong. “Put pressure towards the trigger, even though well covered, the finish the draw while still using that pressure." It’s just a recipe for disaster. I’m glad you don’t use one. Smart guy!

    Seems odd to make a Serpa clone, you can't give those things away. I'd just love to have a level 2 or higher retention holster for my Beretta 92A1 with a Surefire X400, nobody makes one.

      @hrfunk Already did, they said "No and we have no plans to ever make one". Not exactly the best customer service, a "sorry, we don't have anything that will work with that combination" would have been better.

    Until a American company can beat the quality and price of Falco Holsters, I'd love to buy one. Galco and Desantis, etc.. make great stuff, but the price is really high. This Kydex stuff is crap in my opinion. A good leather holster will last almost a lifetime, period. Falco delivered from Slovakia is cheaper by a significant amount. Delivery times..... About 14 days to one month consistently. Optics cuts or flashlight cuts available etc. American delivery times 90 days to 6 months.
