Thank you for this look into your process! I’ve been looking forward to this book, and appreciate all the different interpretations. Your use of comedy in the final beat was great!
I like the insight into your decision making process. Super interesting. Watching the step by step procedure is fascinating and makes one appreciate the final product that much more.
I love your art work, and I enjoy your videos like this. I recall particularly the breakdown you did of Mazzuchellis work in Batman Year One. Made me notice things that just went over my head the first 50 times I read that classic.
This video was so helpful to see the actual process in making a comic book panel, even with an unconventional starting point. I like how you showed the process above you at some points as well!
In a different story Eel with electricity similar to Electro and Unicorn defeated both Iceman and Cyclops. How powerful they are varies with stories although maybe had more time to charge power source in other story.
I really enjoyed her reinterpretation. You just have to appreciate someone seriously exploring how Jack Kirby was expressing the action. I really do like how she minimizes the use of the panels showing an uncluttered flow of motion at the top. However, I LOVE the way Jack would use linear perspective and have the characters almost pop out of the page....so the bottom part of her illustration looks a little flat to me compared to Jack's. For example Cyclops firing his optic beams and being flung back. I didn't see Jack as trying to do comedy there. I really like his foreground and background implied with depth perception rather just merely right to left horizontal motion. All in all...I am VERY IMPRESSED with her conversation and fresh approach. I've subscribed. Love to see and here more.
How is electro & everyone shooting the beams from the back of their heads, facing away from iceman?? And it looks like this big concentrated blast is only shooting the ice boulder out of iceman's hand, which looks as if somehow he was carrying it one handed. The comic panels kirby did make the reader visualize what's unseen between the panels, and one can perfectly visualize the villains hitting iceman overhead, and this concentrated blast remaining on him as he hits the ground at the far right panel. You can literally visualize this continued blast on iceman as he's hitting the ground, because of kirby's unbelievably clear view of what the imagination can see between the panels. IT give the reader the feeling of urgency, and you see cyclops attempting to help him bottom left, he shoves him out of the way, and in turn gets blasted himself, and it beautifully leads you to the next page. Your bottom panel has cyclops falling back in a left direction, which upsets the flow of the left to right action. In kirby's bottom right panel, as cyclops is thrown back, it looks as if he's about to be thrown right out of the comic page, while with your page nothing is coming forward at all, it looks as if its all falling back into the page which makes it all look flat. Honestly, your style and work is very good but presently because you only have a very basic understanding on line weight, and most importantly using those lines to prompt the mind's eye to visualize and see what's not there, which kirby to this day had an unmatched mastery of, there really isn't anyone who can reinterpret kirby's work. Kirby always was and always will be the greatest artist of any medium because the heart of any page he did wasn't in his explosions, or for that matter anything the reader could visually see on the page, but the action the reader saw in his imagination that his drawings provoked that carried the reader to the next panel.
Only Mandarin would use a laser, Melter dissolves materials can be set to dissolve flesh does not call a laser, Electro shoots electricity. Unicorn uses a uni-beam although don't know what form of energy it is. Beetle doesn't shoot energy. Jack Kirby's picture did not show any energry from the melter although could be behind another beam although might be meant to be invisible beam if he used one was not explained in Jack Kirby's version.
am i jealous much re;;; how big her digital screen is.....cheeyaaa...i gots only a 22' planar touch monitor...trust me fellow artists, the bigger space that you have to draw on, [ either paper or digital] to make the big sweeps of the arm and locked wrist, is most benefishal in the final outcome of your vision of what you draw or paint

Very interesting. Also: projecting the drawing table on the wall is a pretty cool touch.

This is actually genius and the way it reads is amazing
At first I was like, "oh no, why redoing something already good" but finally the exercise worthed it. It's very interesting. Thanks.
Wow, the finished page and the thought that went into is awesome!
Basically the best comic artist channel on TH-cam. Amazing.
wow, so much thought into this one page and each panel. Love seeing the initial simplicity of the drawings then the final product. Very powerful.
This is another great study Elsa. I should start giving this method a try to get better with my environment work. Thanks for the motivation, Elsa.
Great breakdown! Love the 1st vs 2nd (though I would never call the 1st 'boring')
That is RAD!!! really good interpretation of the King!
Thank you for this look into your process! I’ve been looking forward to this book, and appreciate all the different interpretations. Your use of comedy in the final beat was great!
Thank you, Devin!

I loved watching your entire creative process to design the page.
Enjoyed the Tribute and got a kick out of thinking about the choices each artist was making. Thanks for this video.
Well done. A great video analyzing Kirby's work, as well as sharing your process in reinterpreting the scene, presented in a concise narrative.
Intro was literally so cool
Fascinating. Thanks!
Came across you thanks to Tom King, I am not a creator but have been loving looonng time comics reader
Sorry posted without me finishing, your video is very insightful and love the way you put a page together. Big fan. Thanks

That’s what you would expect of good storytelling ! Like good editing, it goes unnoticed !
Love it. Your deconstruction and analysis is sublime, I will use your system! Thank you. PS: I so, so much want you tablet!!!!!

!! Awesome!💥
Very thoughtful choices.
It looks great - i like the little rectangular, divided unit of bad-guys.
Cheers,
And Merry Xmas to you

beautiful !
I really like the contrast between the scenes sometimes interrupted by lasers or the characters
Amazing video
That was awesome, thanks a lot!
Great work Elsa!
Your video is in credible thank you
love the book.
Outstanding!

hank you Elsa... I wish you give us insights of the French-Belgian comics artists!
their techniques...
how they are different?
Thanks again! :)
Taken aback by the casual F bomb 😬
