    Great job! Looks awesome! Might I suggest, instead of pushing out the metal bushing in the roller... Find a slightly smaller bolt to fit through it. Go metric if necessary. That bushing protects the plastic wheel from wearing. The bushing takes the wear and tear. Applying some synthetic grease to the bolt will even further protect the bushing and bolt from wear.

    You two deserve so much respect and credit for making such a concise and valuable video. I have painstakingly sifted through many similar videos, none of which were anywhere near as effective as yours. The solutions you provided here were exactly what I’ve been searching far and wide for. Thank you!! Y’all are awesome.

    Seriously the best DIY video I've seen on a long time. Not an hour of yapping before hand, very clear & simple step by step VISUAL directions, and still entertaining without being annoying!! Lol. This was EXACTLY what I was looking for and I'll feel fully equipped to go and do this... WITHOUT my hubbies help! Lol 👍👍👌👌👏👏

    Wow, ladies'! This is awesome! I am building a small cabinet over my toilet (3' wide potty room), and I have a pair of doors I salvaged from an old cabinet (that was a dumpster dive find!). I wanted to do the barn door slides, since the potty room door is on barn door hardware, but I did NOT want to pay an arm and a leg for it. Thanks so much for this awesome tutorial!

    Just finished this build and I have a few recommendations: stay away from spray painting the aluminum flat bar...spend a little more and get the black steel flat bar. I will be replacing my aluminium bar asap. The paint (no matter the brand) does not stick! My bar was flaking before I ever assembled it but I had to go with it for now. Also we added a 1/4" inch spacer in front of the bar and behind the hex screw so that the door bars had a stop. Otherwise the door can just roll off. Otherwise it's a beautiful piece. We made the nighstand to match the modern rustic bed we made last week (also by shanty 2 chic). Love my new bedroom suit. Thanks ladies.

    love y'all and have done many of your projects and they all turned out great! This one has me wishing I had just bought the hardware instead. It was much more expensive than I expected (the flat bar alone is $18, I understand to do one small night stand you don't need to use the whole thing) and it was very difficult. I needed the hubs assistance (muscles) quite a few times. All in all, I would recommend saving the headache and spending a little more for this one. Not being negative just giving honest feedback for anyone who wants to try this. I am a big fan, you girls are great.

    I built the nightstand and used the material for the barn door. Looks great but realized there was no stop so the barn door wouldn't roll off the shelf. I'll have to come up with something but overall I like how mine came out.

  • @Momoka7

    The whole thing is nice, only one little error ... if you can call it that.
    By taking out of the Wheel that Metal Tube ... the Screws will now hurt the Plastic Inside of those Wheels. It may not be allot, but given enough time it *will* make those nice Wheels not roll smooth anymore ... depending on how many times those are opened and closed.
    You could prevent that problem, by getting Wheels that have a Ball-Bearing inside, much like Bicycles have it. It would prevent the Wear and Tear of the Wheels and as a nice plus it would roll allot easier too!

    Finally an inexpensive and simple solution! Thank you!
    And now a question for you: Is there a way to make this a bypass door with two doors in front and two in back?
    I know this sounds like an odd request - but I have two closets on one wall, one 3' wide and the other 4' with a 2' wall between them, and want to use barn doors with them. In order to cover both closet openings and yet still have room to slide the doors, I need to make the doors more narrow with two in back that will partially cover each closet opening and two in front to cover the gaps. The only way to do it (that I can see) is to mount two different tracks, one in front of the other, using narrower doors in back.
    I'm planning on using lightweight hollow-core doors.
    I hope that makes sense! Any suggestions?

    Girls you are awesome, i love the way you explain , and the sense of humor, subscribe totally
    You know so much, i do not need to tell you anything , but what i will do in my door barn, is the bar will cut it 2 inches longer, and BEND IT 1 inch each side, so the wheel can not get slice out
    Keep doing more videos

    Is there a stop to keep the doors from rolling off? And will it wobble without a track at the bottom?

    • @shanty2chic
      @shanty2chic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Daniel J this door doesn't wobble - it's so small. I also didn't add a stop because it's light weight but you can use longer screws on the ends with a spacer on the front side of the track and it will stop the vertical bars 😀

      Couldn't you just hang the door a little higher and use the spacers on either end as a stop, providing there is space to fit the door between the cabinet and the track?

    • @kailiecrandall2591
      @kailiecrandall2591 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Daniel J I notice this is a year old comment BUT if you use an aluminum flat bar they are super easy to bend. You could bend the ends out to be a stopper. Which I plan to do! I think it adds character

      @ericcurry9941 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, given enough tilt, the doors /could/ have a tendency to slide in the lower direction. Besides, wouldn't the bar/doors effectively cover the opening, so you wouldn't see the difference?

      Courtney, I've painted metal before and always have issues too. The thing I've found that works best is to sand the metal first to roughen it up and remove any oils. The paint that I have found that works best is the chalkboard spray paint, but even then, I've found that it will chip in places with heavy use. I've tried several methods but yet to find something that works perfectly!

    Question....I have a Pottery Barn Ashby bed. How do I match the stain, if not the wood, to match so it looks like it goes together....or.....is matching pieces not the only thing anymore? Clueless Bachelor.

    I attempted to make the wheel assembly per instructions, the problem is the vertical bar is hitting the hex head for the horizontal bar. What am I doing wrong ?

    1? does the black paint come off eventually on the wheel portion that slides on the metal?
