Steve - thank you so much for this great video. My washer is a Maytag MHWE300VW12 - very similar to the Whirlpool unit. One MAIN difference are the shock absorbers - on the Maytag - there are 2 pins to retract on each shock. A real pain to push in. But I figured it out. In my case, it was not a repair situation, but an "access" situation. A few weeks ago, I "lost" a 9mm socket. I thought I put it in my pants pocket, but it was nowhere to be found. Well, a few days ago, my washer was making an awful racket in the spin cycle. Yup, found that socket.
Outstanding video. Quick question... The front of the metal barrel goes thru the front tub assembly. There should be very little if any play? Is there a solid seal to prevent leaks? I was thinking the tub assembly would act as a bushing around the barrel to keep it from flopping around during the spin cycle. I'm only assuming that's were my banging is coming from.
just did my washer (purchased 2yr old 2nd hand whirlpool) took the drum out completely. covered bearing compartment and shaft and power washed all, good and clean as new. (the previous owner did not run the clean cycle and used to leave the door closed, the rubber boot will have to be replaced as it is moldy ).
I never thought completely dismantling my washer would be so easy. Thanks for this video.

If it was leaking why couldn’t you just replace the gasket?? Why do you have to replace the whole tube front??
