If the tape is 2 miles thick, why does it read 5-6? Why back it off 2 mils instead of 5-6?

The tape has two layers. One is incompressible layer to back the compressible foam. We only want to dial back 2mil to avoid including the incompressible layer. The foam layer accounts for the other 3-4mil.
