I would be mid centre of the main room, the tall bird with (horrendous 🤣) short hair REALLY avin it. I accidentally punched a few people when a good tune dropped 😂😂😂 Hope to see you at a reunion one day... 🤞 I missed 2018 - utterly gutted. Next time! Once a shiny always a shiny 😍🦁

The Republic was without question the greatest club layout I’ve seen. It was a world within a world and no matter what point of the night you were at, you were always having fun in that place whether it was dancing on the bridge, in the main room, being on the mezzanines in the disco-tech area as you walked in etc. Magical times. I don’t know if Gatecrasher would have become what it was without The Republic. It was a genius move from Simon Raine and Simon Oates to buy it and design it like that. So many clubs are a conventional single level box, maybe with a balcony. The Republic was so different. Itwillalwaysbewithyou.

This was the first club I visited, just before my 17th birthday in 2003. Scott Bond, Matt Hardwick, Eddie Halliwell, and Ferry Corston. What a place. What a night. It changed my life forever. So glad I saw the Republic before the renovation. Love you always.
Ah so many memories flooding back! ❤️ I was going every weekend from the start of it being a club. So the republic days in 95 with the hot to trot and blessed nights etc. we were so lucky to have that in Sheffield. We did travel to other clubs in the Uk but really didn’t need to, nothing matched it. You could literally meet people from all over the world there, it put Sheffield on the map from the start. Then when gatecrasher moved in permanently from the Adelphi nightclub after a stint at the arches which I also loved it took off. The laser light show and the function one sound system bespoke engineered to match the natural and epic warehouse style acoustics, it’s was a world class combination that will never be matched again. One of my favourite memories is Danny Tanaglia dropping music is the answer… it was like that track was made for the republic, I will never forget the deep, sweet metallic sound! ❤️ 🪩❤🪩
Worked there 1995-1997. Was a hell of a place. Went downhill when Gatecrasher took over. 2 managers walked out, they still owe me money for my last month but looks like they owe everyone.
Unfortunately I was too young to experience it at the time, but was devasted to hear I missed out on this when I eventually moved to Sheff the year after it burnt down. Moved in just down the hill from there as well... almost certainly would've been there weekly. It was basically all anyone talked about when talking about nights out. Would be amazing to experience an era like that again but it's all a bit too commercial now.
This is brilliant - I was a latecome to the Republic, living in Sheffield for the last few years - the detail in this render is amazing as I can absolutely picture every facet of the club just as per the animation. Cracking Club, truly unique. Although I will say me and my mates preferred going to Cream in Liverpool. Crasher was still mint from time to time! But the atmosphere & the crowd in the courtyard just edged it for us!
I'm pretty certain that's after the renovation in the 00s. 97-99 it was a bit more basic. Left of entrance a bar and snacks, main room to the right,chill out in the far right corner and toilets at the back of the main room. it might be my very hazy memory!
1:27 sure there was a little vip area off to the right there. Many a good night spent there in the ‘90s - especially weekly student nights during the week (I forget now which night). Awesome. Cheers.
Any tech savvy people out there know of a way this could be modded to work on VR? Even better if the video could be edited to include full colour, made as realistic as possible and modded to work on VR. I would gladly pay someone to do it.
Ha nice idea i thought the same I could see two ways of this working 1. 360 video: the club environment surrounds you in VR headset, you can move your head to look around the space but you cannot walk around it (3DOF). Could also be seen on TH-cam on mobiles/PCs. It could cut between different scenes/locations in the club. It would have a fixed time length. I haven't tried it but i think renderers for 3d modelling tools can export 360 videos? If so this would be the easier option 2. Walk around VR experience: as above but you can freely walk around the club and there is no time limit on the experience. In Unity, after adding the model of the club there is some basic XR setup, adding locomotion/teleport zones, something to deal with stairs. Im unsure how much of a pain it is to set all the walls and floors as rigidbodies so people are walking through them. Also if the model is too big for the headset it would need splitting into different scenes. It would be good to start with one section to try it out. 3D sound is really easy in Unity, having the sound come from the speakers would make it feel real, also you could fiddle with acoustics to make it more club like. You could let people choose their own songs or even import it as a VR chat room so people could meet there

Alex - do you have any late 90’s early 00’s video footage from crasher that isn’t from Rapture TV?? Would be amazing to see. Gatecrasher had planned to make a commemorative DVD years ago-and a huge amount of crasher kids and shiny kids sent in their names to have them added to the credits- but the project never got off the ground. Would be fantastic to see anything. Just thought I’d put that out there in case. ✌️🦁🙏
