    Everyone starting out in their journey of paint Correction needs to see this video, everything you say is 100% correct, I experienced the pad getting extremely hot and creating sink holes some have gone as far as destroying the pad, the pads with the hole in the middle are the best and only kind I use, once again thank you for sharing your knowledge

    What backing plate are you using that has the holes in it that lines up with the holes in the americana pads? I didn’t see backing plates on their website. Would the griots 5” vented backing plate line up with the holes in those pads?

    • @jdisdetermined
      @jdisdetermined 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Robby C whatever you do, do NOT use the HF pads with the 6" installed backplate, the plate extends further than the pad backing and you will chew up pads like crazy. Their are "fixes," but nothing I'd feel comfortable working with.
      I'd also recommend you strongly consider buying a 5" backplate, like the $10 Astra on Amazon, and use 5" pads. Smaller surface area gives the budget DA some extra cutting power and they're much more forgiving on curves, edges, small spaces etc..
      The HF is a great machine for the money, but not a powerhouse. So for heavy duty defect removal you will need a microfiber cutting pad. Meguiars is a safe bet, and keeping with the simple theme I'd comfortably recommend a set of their compound, polish, seal/wax foam pads as well, along with their 105 and 205 compound and polish. That system is capable of serious defect removal and a fine finish. It's predictable and reliable, widely available, affordable, and has years of proven results. It is still my go to, and I've used it with the HF machine so I know what it is capable of.

    Hey Scott, I’m getting a DeWalt dwp849x which is not a DA it is a Rotary polisher. Would you do a video on one of these? Or, do you or any of your viewers have any words of wisdom on just a rotary polisher? There a tons of videos on DA polishers. Not a whole lot on rotary. I’m just a driveway Joe looking to do paint correction on my neglected car.

    Glad your back. Great Video!! Thanks for your thoughts on the Americana Global Pad. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on The Last Cut Compound and Jescar Correcting Cream.
    I actually bought a 5/8 inch hollow punch and started punching out a center hole in ALL of my lake country and meguiars microfiber pads because of issues associated with heat. But the 4 extra cooling chambers on the Americana Global pad makes more sense because the air is actually flowing through the backing plate. I'm amazed more companies aren't doing this.
    Also, I know it's an expensive initial investment but the new Buff & Shine Uro-fiber pad is not only an exact fit pad but it's also BY FAR the coolest running microfiber pad on the market. I've been testing a single 5" uro-fiber pad on my Boss G15 for the past 5 months and after using it on 20+ vehicles it is showing zero signs of degrading. The fibers, the foam interface, and the velcro might actually be indestructible.lol. It's already paid for itself 10x over.
    Merry Christmas Scott!

      americana global also makes microfiber cutting pads that run very cool..im sure buff and shine microfibers are awesome but i tend to just use a rotary and wool pad for deep defects..i get tired of constantly having to clean the microfiber disks..lol

    Scott just been doing some reseach on wool pads for cutting and they are not pure wool! Most of them are synthetic man made wool, is there a difference between natural wool and synthetic wool when it comes to the buffing outcome?

  • @zanaga1901
    @zanaga1901 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What pad do you use to polish down to your original color of your vehicle. I used a wool buff pad and it didn't work good it generated more heat when I put pressure to the pad and I had my Ultimate polisher I got to 6 and I saw a little spot that I got my paint polished to where it looks like the original color but it took too long on a small area. I need a pad that cuts down to the point fast. I was using Meguairs Ultimate polish too. I just want to get the right pad to use.

    How about the best pad for heavy oxidation for a 7 inch polisher. Am looking for one that will remove the heavy oxidation or medium oxidation. I have yellow and orange pads at home but they not branded and I am using a rotary polisher so I can't go to high with the speed. 3 speed is pretty good though.

    From day one, the biggest problem is that Rupes developed a system for people only interested in the tool technology (large orbit).
    If they try the "system", the end user has no clue how to approach it. None.
    So the end user does what comes natural, and tries to use their system in a manner that's familiar, often with less than remarkable results.
    The only reason I figured out how to use it, was because of forums, and interfacing with people from the company on FB, and finally practicing on scrap panels.
    So without that insight, it's a long road to hope.
    I guess it's a moot point if someone hasn't even experimented with it. I mean, the first thing people do with it is put a washer in it, and then wonder why the pads are shredding, and compound is slinging with their blue combo. From there they quickly move on to more familiar territory.
    To be clear, this isn't a slight on the end user, but an illustration to where Rupes could have better educated technicians on EXACTLY how they intended the use of the "system" in it's entirety.
    I'm comfortable now with it to use it in a production environment, but if I can get away with the PC, I'll do it. For the record, I've never had the plate on a Rupes cut in to the pad. There might be a millimeter from the edge of the plate to the outside edge of the pad backing - on the Duetto.
    I also brought back the Flex 3401. I did too many R.V.'s, and industrial trucks with a rotary/PC last season, where the 3401 would have gotten me home faster.

    I’m trying to understand what you are recommending. I don’t do this for a living. Accordingly I listen to other more experienced people. You recommended the harbor freight polisher but told us to throw away the backing plate, buy a 5” backing plate and 5 1/2 “ force pads. This video says to use the same size pad and backing plate with a thinner pad. As a result I’m confused and need clarification.

    • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343
      @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh now i understand your confusion...i was sure i mentioned long throw polishers like the Rupes 21MM throw and how they can heat the surface of the paint and how that could be a problem...i don't watch my videos after i upload them, did i not talk about the long throw polisher like the Rupes 21????...i hope that helps with your confusion but I'm also sure i talked about the issue of long throw polishers as well and how they heat up the surface of the paint and how this pad will help with that issue...let me know Mark if i failed to mention that point within the video:)

      Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing Begs the question as to whether the pads offer advantage for the Harbor Freight (?)

    • @n3ro209
      @n3ro209 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Silverman the Harbor freight polisher and the one in this video are two completely different machines. The one in the video is a long throw polisher that builds up more heat, now he’s talking about an issue with the backing plate and pads for the rupes machine which is not an exact fit. He brings up the Americana global pads which ARE an exact fit for the rupes backing plate, even has the same holes in the same location to reduce heat greatly. This has nothing to do with harbor freight machine or using 5.5” pads. Different set up for different application.

    Scott, I've been using the harbor freight DA for about a year now, I was wondering if there is any benefit to moving to a more expensive machine or a mainstream brand?

      that depends on how often you're doing paint correction...if you're a DIY and taking care of 1 or 2 cars in your driveway, i would say there is no reason to upgrade...if you want to upgrade from a harbor freight i would look at the griots 6 inch orbital, only because it has less vibration and a little more balanced but it doesn't have more power than the harbor freight...if you wanted to play with a long throw polisher than i would recommend the shurhold 3500 because it has a lot of power, more power than the rupes or griots boss long throw polishers plus its only about 180 dollars:)

      Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing what's the difference between say a normal DA and a long throw DA? Always confused when someone says it has an X throw. I work on my own personal car plus like one car a week for a client.

      the harbor freight polisher has a 8mm throw..it not only spins at the pad but it has a 8mm orbit..when we talk about long throw polishers, we are talking about polishers that have a 15-21mm throw..this translates into a polisher that can remove defects off the paint twice as fast during the buffing cycle vs a small polisher that only has a 8mm orbit

    Hey Scott,
    Was looking at the pads by Americana and couldn’t quite figure out what color pads are for what type of cutting. Can you guide me a bit and explain what color does what best. Thanks again and Merri Christmas!

      Fern,
      Yellow is "Heavy Cut" M105, D300, Jescar Correcting Compound, M100, Fast Correcting Cream etc.
      Orange is "Medium Cut" (typical orange pad) same compounds as yellow.
      Black is "Polishing" M205, Hyper Polish, Jescar Polishing, Perfecting Cream, etc.
      Red is "Ultra/Fine Polishing" Can either use as a jeweling pad, or use it to apply waxes/sealants to the surface.

    Wouldn’t take much to drill holes in any backing plate and pad to make your own cooling vents. A step bit would make clean holes.

    Is is better than meguiars pads?

  • @ericviele4379
    @ericviele4379 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since that pad is an "exact fit" and the side wall is straight up and down, I feel you'd run the risk of the backing plate rubbing on part of the car, say the under side of a side mirror or anywhere that something sticks out from the vehicle body. As such, I think I prefer using 5.5" pads on a 5" backing plate.

      @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i have never had that issue..but i suppose some with less experience could get close to areas like you mentioned and damage paint..even with a 5.5 pad, i stay clear of those areas or tape them off...this pad provides so many benefits over other pads so its a no brainer for me

    Is the red backing plate the Torq22D ? Since I bought one on your recommendation for the Shurhold, just wondered if the four holes line up with that plate or is it an Americana Global plate ? Also since I now have 10 LC orange FORCE pads are you saying that these thicker pads would get too hot to use with a 21mm throw ? Looks like Santa is going to have to go to the Americana Global website and put in a new pad order. Any pad selection advice to tackle most jobs ? I'm not going to order till I'm sure, based on your advice..............Merry Christmas ! Jeff

      just about any pad will get the paint hot when using with a long throw polisher that has a 21mm throw...the americana pad seems to lower the heat on the surface of the paint plus with its design the pad will last longer and stay cooler vs other pads...the torq22d backing plate does have holes that you can line up with the pad but also worth noting is even if you don't line up the holes correctly most long throw backing plates are well vented to begin with so the holes within the americana pads will still work for you as well

      OK, thanks. I've been using my heat indicator gun with different pads/techniques and I'll be curious to do a comparison once my pads arrive. I'm going to get just one of the yellow heavy cut pads just to test and 6 orange. I love the LC grey Force pads for "spot" correction and have found the orange LC Force pads allow me cut and finish in one step with GGFCC with a 8mm, for moderate defect removal.

      a compound like Jescar Cutting Compound used with these americana global pads really drops the temperature of the paint as well:)...just a tip

      Cool, I have not tried any of the Jescar products, I'll give it a try. I've been loving the GGFCC and Perfecting Cream so much I thought I have found the perfect combination, but always like trying out new products.
      Hope you had a a great XMass ...Much Love, Jeff

      I just picked up the Shurhold long throw and torq 22d 5 and 6 inch backing plates, as well as some Americana Global orange and black pads in each size. I found while giving this machine its first test drive yesterday, that the Shurhold backing plate did the job just fine and heat build up was virtually nonexistent, but it's nice to have that smaller 5" torq plate that I can throw on there if the situation calls for it. The Shurhold is smooth as butter in my opinion. A little loud for the user, but I just threw in my foam tipped headphones and listened to a podcast while I worked and that was enough to prevent ringing.
      The only odd thing I noticed was that the black Americana Global polishing pad would experience some sinkage where you had applied the drops of polish after a handful of passes. Ended up switching to the orange pad as I had planned to do anyway (was just seeing what the black could do before truly correcting) and found it to be less forgiving over rough terrain leading to some pad stall occasionally that I had to work around (no KB washer mod at the moment), but gave far more feedback as to what was going on at the paint level than most other brands' mid range cutting pads and no sinkage from the polish. The orange pad is very sturdy/stiff, which I like, but it still finishes down really nicely for a respectable one-step with the right polish and technique (I was using sonax perfect finish on softer Japanese paint).
      I'm a fan.
      Gotta say thanks to Scott. The Shurhold 3500 pro and Americana orange pads are a great combo.
