- Fire trucks from Wawanesa, CFB Shilo, Carberry and Glenboro fire departments were battling this massive blaze yesterday afternoon of April 1st 2021.
This huge grass/brush fire started south of Camp Hughes, which is a small community west of Carberry, MB in the Spruce Woods area. 4 fire departments were called into assist, along with Manitoba Hydro, CP Rail, Manitoba RCMP, and Office of the Fire Commissioner.
Firefighters battled this intense fire while shuttling water to the scene. Crews were attempting to protect nearby houses and structures from fire, when at least 1 structure caught fire. RCMP conducted emergency evacuations of over 20 homes and shut down Highway 351 and surrounding roads leading to the area.

Nice wicked tractor mighty machines
Thank you for showing all this BIG call out for Larger Grass/ Field Fire. Very interesting to see a Large Farm Tractor with tillers. Great idea to turn over grass to just DIRT to possibly STOP extension of Fire lines.
Everybody was out doing their part, thanks for watching!
Great video! Im from Carberry im so happy that no homes were lost and only one recieved damage.Very nice to live in a community of great people surrounded by other communities that come together.Keep it up!
It was nice to see farmers, Hutterite Colonies and firefighters coming together to help stop the spread of this intense fire. Been a wild few days!
Great video. This was out by my family's subdivision and it captures how this was not a small effort to be dealt with. Horrible situation and mother nature not wanting to play nicely. Wind howling, fire crackling. Great job capturing everything!
Thank you very much Amanda, the firefighters did a great job with this intense fire. As you can hear in my video the wind was super intense. Very difficult firefighting conditions.
2:50 A private fire department? And blue lights outside of ON? Very cool.
I may be wrong, but I believe that truck belongs to a hutterite colony. They always have some interesting set ups, but are always some of the first people to lend a helping hand during a fire!
@@LiamPattisonPhotography Good on them!
That 1991 GMC Topkick Fort Gary Pumper was probably my favourite engine that responded. I always love seeing old units still in service.
Mine too ;) was very happy to catch it going with sirens as well. Definitely a first for me!
@@LiamPattisonPhotography The oldest active unit I’ve seen in Western Canada is in the small town Of Spritwood Saskatchewan. Their main engine is a 1979 Ford F Thibault Pumper. Still looks fantastic after all these years though there are few pictures of it online.
1:42 damn she’s a beauty! Awesome video and catches! I liked and subscribed!
Probably my fav truck I got to film that day, thanks for watching and subscribing! Cheers
Oh man, what can I say Liam! From the variety of never seen trucks, the green GMC Top Kick Tanker, and the RCMP 2020 Explorer, I say this was quite a treat to watch! Phenomenal video dude, loved it!.
Thanks very much pal, I was happy with the variety I was able to get here. Glad I made the trip out there!
Nice video! Loved that big white tanker with the jake brakes!
Me too! Obviously didn't have their lights on but I liked the sound of it so much that I kept that clip in, thanks pal!
Sick video man. You got some awesome catches of some seldom seen departments.
Thank you very much! This was my "first" catch of literally all of these units except for Wawanesa's Unit 3. Was very nice to catch these trucks.
Wow what an amazing compilation Liam! That GMC Topkick and all of those tankers were amazing to see! Hope to see more awesome compilations from you!
Thank you very much for watching! I was happy I was able to get out to this fire and catch some responses. Most of these trucks I had never even seen before, very cool. Subscribe for more cool stuff on the way!
Great video! Love all the different rigs.
Thanks pal, me too. Most of them were new to me which was sweet!
@04:38 Best piece of equipment out there to contain a field fire!!
It was gettin' put to work!
Great video I love all the different fire truck I lost count how many Riggs the military has such a beautiful trucks!!
Thank you very much, it was a lot. I wish I could've stayed longer before RCMP kicked me out. And yes, those CFB rigs are perfect for this type of fire!
Awesome footage! These trucks in action are great!
Thanks very much for watching!
Using a cultivator for a fire line that's actually a pretty smart idea
Very cool! Glad I was able to capture it on video. Very effective.
YES second that, great idea to turn grass to dirt
7:25 I wonder what the 3 Stihl backpack blowers on the Ford truck are used for? Blow out the fire?
You blow the fire and burning debris back in on itself. In light flashy fuel, like shown in this video it works pretty well.
Glad to see that top kick alive and kicking. They were branded chevrolet kodiak here in Colombia back when they were sold and used as refuerzo or dump trucks. That freightliner is also nice. Unlike the plastic trucks now a days. Thanks
Some sharp looking trucks for sure, thanks for watching!
You know you're in the prairies when there's a Case tractor on the highway.....lol. Great video! Second thing, how close is the base to the fire scene? I know the base will respond to calls off base when needed, Saw it first hand at a MVC 2 years ago just outside CFB Edmonton
You bet! Farm equipment everywhere lol. And CFB Shilo is an approximately 28km drive from where the fire was at Camp Hughes. Some of this fire was also technically on land that is owned by CFB Shilo (range land) and is used for military training, so that would've been a reason for Shilo to respond.
Cool! Learn something new everyday
Great video my friend 👍👍🔥🔥
Thanks for watching!!
Great video. I wonder what the final size of this fire was? The numbers?
Nice trucks.
Thank you. Cheers from Miramichi.
If you follow this link it will take you to a CBC article on the fire. They don't specify an exact size in numbers, but they provide a satellite image in the article with a red circle showing the approximate size of the fire in relation to a housing development nearby. Definitely some unique and cool trucks at this fire, thanks much for watching. Cheers from Manitoba!

Well damn! You don't get non-Brandon/Winnipeg responses often but when you do, oh boy do they knock it out of the park! My heart goes out to the crews that worked on this as well as the family whose house was involved though.
Thanks much Jimmy, was great to get some more variety with my content and capture some of these slower departments in action. Sounds like the house that was involved had fire damage to their shed, and fire damage to the siding of their house, however the house was saved from major damage which is great!
YES, if the home was saved, livable for owner, that is a big plus. It's so hard to save structure when distance is so great for Responding Rigs.
were was this at?
Manitoba, Canada. More specific info is available in the description.
Did you wear any kind of respiratory protection?
I did not no. I generally tried to stay out of the thick smoke as best as I could. Usually on grass/brush fires firefighters won't wear any sort of respiratory protection either.
Some awesome catches in there!
The best part is how the CFB trucks also say "Fire Service" in French, so the 3% of Manitobans who speak French at home know what they're looking at! Wouldn't want to cause any confusion...
Lol yup, Shilo's fire service is DND (Department of National Defence) so it's technically federal, which means they've gotta have bilingual language on their trucks. Thanks for watching!
Where's is that ???
This was filmed in Manitoba, Canada. Specifically near Carberry, Manitoba
6:15 this puts the Utility in FPIU!
One officer with places to be! Haha
Wonder if the fire got started by a farmer doing burning on his land and the wind caught it and spread the fire around. Great catch, stay safe
There is a burn ban currently in place, so there are no farmers burning in that area. RCMP released a statement today and say that they think it may have been started by an ATV.
@@LiamPattisonPhotography thanks for the information
@@LiamPattisonPhotography Yep atv. Its so dry We had such a mild winter
Talk about a terrible april fool's prank
Nice
That not a big grass fire
You’re wrong
They have a shit show going on, I work with cal fire in california those guys are lacking a lot of training
Yeah well Cal Fire has literally thousands of personnel and hundreds of apparatus (including Air Ops) at their disposal, while in this area we have dozens of people and a handful of trucks at our disposal lol. They did a great job with the resources they had. They protected an entire development of houses from fire. My video of trucks responding should not reflect the actual work they did. Trucks were relocating multiple times due to changing wind and fire patterns. They know/knew what they were doing.
Old crappy trucks fire fighters in turnouts for a grass fire! What type of training goes on here 😂
Pretty bold comment for a no-name TH-cam account who wasn't there.
