  • This is one of Brahms' most famous melodies; it captures perfectly the elegant dancing of the Viennese ballrooms in a piano piece. Pianist Henrik Kilhamn plays here the (advanced) piano solo version.

    Can you do the first movement of the Brahms sonata no 5?

  • @caterscarrots3407
    @caterscarrots3407 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is one of my favorite Brahms waltzes. Hungarian Dance no. 5 though is probably my favorite Brahms piece to play. However, it's a bit confusing sometimes what key to use, because I have seen it written and played in 3 keys, A minor, F# minor(I happen to have the F# minor version), and G minor(same key as the orchestral arrangement Brahms wrote, I think I like this one the best).
    But, even though I have heard more than one pianist play Hungarian Dance no. 5 in G minor, it's like really hard to find sheet music of that piece in G minor that isn't orchestral, so I basically have to transpose from the F# minor sheet music on the spot, and sometimes I make mistakes when transposing(especially when the quality changes with it, i.e. it goes from major to minor or vice versa with the transposition).

      I have also seen this. I want to play it in G minor because it’s easier. The original is in F# sharp though.

      @@ethanbrowncomposer I want to play it in G minor just because I think it sounds better in G minor.

      Oh I forgot to mention that! It's the advanced version. The simpler version is actually transposed to A major. Both can be found here: imslp.org/wiki/16_Waltzes%2C_Op.39_(Brahms%2C_Johannes)
