The stop where a small child crashes into you below your center of gravity, knocks your legs out from under you and flips you over onto your back. Very quick stop. Also has the added feature of being a stop to your practice time as well, as you crawl away to ice your ribs and your ego.
You forgot to mention the "Just go in a straight line, trust the friction, and wait" method. Slowly but surly (if there is no barrier or a hockey player in a way) you will stop. Not effective, but anyone can do it :-)
I recently went skating with a 3-year-old who demonstrated at least 21 variations on falling stops alone. I practiced a lot of dips that day, especially when he chose to execute a rolling-into-skating-traffic stop and I had to snatch him back to the wall.
Cool. I know a few rink rat hockey skaters who do a version of the eagle stop alternately scissoring. The coolest stop I've ever seen was done by another rink rat hockey skater who managed to stop with a New York Shuffle step. He was the only person I've ever seen do that. I did hear about someone from the London inline skate scene who could do that on wheels, but never witnessed it personally.
This was *VERY* valuable; thank you (already subscribed😁). Seeing ALL the different ways to stop is useful as heck for new skaters at public skate sessions.
Watch 3:10 thru 3:15 at 0.25x speed as he finishes the "curve to a skid stop" and does some sort of flourish skating to segue into the next piece. What he does there appears to just be off the top of his head, but I wonder if that is some known step combination that looks so great. What are the skills he is using there that allow him to do that so gracefully? It seems to be based on the backwards crossover, but there are other moves in there as well.
1:40 through 2:00 that style of skating is so great, it looks so graceful and so easy! That is the level of grace and glide I'd like to achieve. I officially hate that guy.
Missing: Penguin stop. One foot inside edge stop. Powerpulls followed by outside edge stop. T-stop with the breaking foot in front. Unintentional stops: Collide with an innocent bystander stop. Penguin skating aid pushed into your path by a child stop. Fall backwards, hit head on ice, lose blood stop. (I did that the first time my coach got me doing backwards powerpulls.) Skate hits a white tissue lying on the ice stop.
You can do heel and toe stops in Hockey skates, but it's really just a plow or eagle using the heal or toe part of the profile's edge. Ie. turning the foot because we don't have toe picks or back edges...
Idk what it is by I really struggle with most stopping techniques it feels like I don’t have the leg strength to dig in my blades usually just keep on skidding and I will most likely fall lol
Oops got another one... The forward over balance stop where your balance is slightly too far forward and dig the toe picks in pivoting over them & splatting into the ice...right at the only wet patch!
I've been taking ice skating classes for three weeks now, but none of the instructors have mentioned anything about how to stop. Why do they think that's not important?
Rollerblading does help with balance for new incoming ice skaters, but the friction on ice is different as it's more slippery, and the blades that cause the ice to scratch makes the balance a little shaky.
I have perhaps A odd and somewhat unusual series of issues, I'm very graceful I go through the mountains running ultra marathois bonds. On my feet around people's homes all day and I managed to be unscathed the vast majority of the time. Yet on ice skates I Appear to have all the grace and confidence of a child with some sort of Is inner ear problem, I don't seem to get going very smoothly and I fall down, much. I would like to get to the point where I'm graceful enough to do a demonstration like this.
Oh, I got another stop. When I can't stop with t-stop stably, I will turn my gliding foot to heel stop, so it become one foot on outside edge t-stop another one foot with heel stop 🤣
ever since i saw my school sub teacher stopping with their ice skate by doing a sharp and percise round slide thingy, ive determined i wanna look cool stopping without slamming onto the walls because idk how to stop mid skate lol edit: 1:14 she did like this one but slower and you could rlly hear that satisfying ice scrape lmao
4:50 ok what???? Is that even humanly possible? How would one go about practicing such a thing? Honestly I skate with a hockey hip pad setup combined with women's figure skating underwear that has butt padding, but COME ON...even that has its limitations.
Missed my favourite stop of all time...Me, 100kg guy 6'2" having a medium sized idiot showing off for his friends suddenly change directions 180 deg into my path only to test the laws of conservation of momentum and bounce off my chest stopping him dead on the ice while only slowing my progress over the top of him! bwahahaha 😛

You forgot my fav, being knocked over by a hockey player going backwards. Fun times! 😂
lol i hate when i hit people like that it’s so awkward after i hit them
Or when their puck flies under you and you get yeeted on the ice 😂 happened once, it was more than enough
Or a little kid who’s a speed demon and uses people to slow down
@@_rat_5758 yah like me 😭😭
@@_rat_5758 that got me😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🙈

literally what i’ve been doing😭😭
yeah me when my skates aren't slippery enough
Tbh using rental skates I never even have to stop any other way, they are far too blunt.

Butt-stop - my favorite stop :)
As well as fase-on-ice-stop :)
Number of stops demonstrated: 21. Number of those stops I can do: One (running into the wall).
My personal faves are the wide hockey and heel stops
I loved the video! I like the t-stop and hockey stop.
Nice Video. Still missing 2 stops :)
1. Wide Hockey stop with heel-toe combination for Freestyle or Hockey scates.
2. Pinguine stop
1:56 Oh I love that camera work!
1:38 you just invented the twist stop
Broke my wrist while stopping in the barrier as a child 😂😂
Lovely video. I enjoyed watching you guys.
Another stop I use is a drag stop which could also be finished with half a rotation as you slow to a stop before standing up again.
1:40 through 2:00 that style of skating is so great, it looks so graceful and so easy! That is the level of grace and glide I'd like to achieve. I officially hate that guy.
4:10 The Zamboni people love this one.
This guy: Does all that. Me: Never take my phone on the ice.
Missing:
Penguin stop.
One foot inside edge stop.
Powerpulls followed by outside edge stop.
T-stop with the breaking foot in front.
Unintentional stops:
Collide with an innocent bystander stop.
Penguin skating aid pushed into your path by a child stop.
Fall backwards, hit head on ice, lose blood stop. (I did that the first time my coach got me doing backwards powerpulls.)
Skate hits a white tissue lying on the ice stop.
The best kind of stop is when you do it on purpose
what about the hug stop :)
thanks for showig all the stops and sharing some fun
I now understand why we were doing stops in my lesson, to stop me from doing the "annoying" one 😂
You can do heel and toe stops in Hockey skates, but it's really just a plow or eagle using the heal or toe part of the profile's edge.
Ie. turning the foot because we don't have toe picks or back edges...
I'm a pro with the zamboni stop, butt stop, and annoying stop! XD
Idk what it is by I really struggle with most stopping techniques it feels like I don’t have the leg strength to dig in my blades usually just keep on skidding and I will most likely fall lol
Mine becomes a turn with a one leg stop or a swizzle with a two leg stop
My personal favorite:
"Faceplant stop"
I used the stop of 3:48 (falling on the ice like a star-fish) before I learnt snow-plow😁 when I am almost had a collision with kids
U gotta do the 1 knee spin n' stop. It's a hockey one idk fit i explained it well but
0:39 Blackberry Key2? That's what I'm using right now!
You're the best !
Backwards curve stepping up onto one toe pick.
haven't ice skated like ever, might learn again after learning to rollerblade
Rollerblading does help with balance for new incoming ice skaters, but the friction on ice is different as it's more slippery, and the blades that cause the ice to scratch makes the balance a little shaky.
My fave from this video is "wide hockey stop," although that does not look like wide hockey stop to me.
Thank you Lloyd this helped 👍
1:44 in Short Program by Veronica, awsome really
I know that ice rink!!
How to stop going into a wall at mach 2 then not breaking your wrists from trying to soften the crash
Does the powerslide (from inline/quad roller skates) work on ice? And by "work" I mean "look speccy and dramatic"
I have perhaps A odd and somewhat unusual series of issues, I'm very graceful I go through the mountains running ultra marathois bonds. You missed the going for a jump and sliding into the barrier under judges stop ...
Oh, I got another stop. When I can't stop with t-stop stably, I will turn my gliding foot to heel stop, so it become one foot on outside edge t-stop another one foot with heel stop 🤣

do the Annoying stop but T-pose while doing it, then it would be the Really Annoying stop lol
Turns out I know a lot more stops than I thought 😂
Missed my favourite stop of all time...Me, 100kg guy 6'2" having a medium sized idiot showing off for his friends suddenly change directions 180 deg into my path only to test the laws of conservation of momentum and bounce off my chest stopping him dead on the ice while only slowing my progress over the top of him! bwahahaha 😛
Butt stop 😅😅!
You missing about 100 more stops
What about the being too cocky but has hyper mobility stop (also named the acl stop)😩😩😩😂😂
Comedy skaters😊👍
@text611 Omg what is waiting me?))
Faceplant stop🤣
Ice skating literally the most boring thing 😂
you're just upset you cant do it..😐
Don't be mad because you suck at it lmao
