PARKED for 37 Years - NASH Gasser Lives Again

  • The paint job on this 1947 Nash gasser is a WILD '70s design, but the paint job is actually the reason this car was parked in 1971. The owner paid $5,000 for the paint job and the white base coat turned yellow due to the clear coat. This car remained indoors until 2008, when it was sold. It was put back on the track a few years later and is still ripping up the local nostalgia drag racing scene. The car runs with the Straight Axle Mafia, and runs select events with the Southeast Gassers Association.
The old paint is ALL ORIGINAL, and this thing still has its original race car interior from the late '60s. This car ran at the US Nationals in 1966, and ran in Upstate New York for most of its life. It now lives in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Horsepower was previously a Hilborn injected 327 with a 4 speed. It now has what the owner described as a "$300 small block" with a tunnel ram and two 4's. What a killer old school gasser with tons of great history and a paint job that gets everyone's attention.

I’ve watched this car make passes at the nostalgia races in Hardinsburg Ky. Love these old survivors. The guys in the straight axle mafia are a cool bunch of guys. Great video.

That thing is awesome. There is a super famous gasser in tacoma where I'm from that had a wild paint job done early 70s,car sat paint started bubbling and chipping. The dude who baught it redid everything just as it was with upgrade safety stuff. Since the car was known for this paint job he put a ton on clear coat on it and it has held everything down and it looks awesome. I'm not a fan of clearcoat on rust but to preserve that spacial paint job on the Nash the clear would hold everything there for 100 yrs, what a gem. Thanks for sharing

Love this car, man. I have a random question for you: Have you ever heard of a man from Mansfield, Ohio named Fred Bocka? He ran a 6cyl. altered in the 60's and 70's called the "Mighty Mini." He still holds 3 records to this day for naturally aspirated 6cyl. on the quarter mile. He was my neighbor when I was growing up in the 60's and I often went to the races with him and his father.

When I was stuck in school as a kid, I hated history. I didn't care one iota about any of those kings and queens and politicians, I figure that they were mostly a bunch of creeps.
But when it comes to history which I can relate to, I just love it! I also love researching the history of places where I've lived, and the buildings and people who were there well before my time.

Kind of ironic that what was considered a 'ruined paint job' then is now considered 'perfect patina.' I absolutely love the psychedelic paint jobs of the early '70s! I see lace panels, endless lines, freak drops, this paint job had it all!

It’s so important that people like you document these cars Tommy. Somebody bought the rights to Nickey Chevrolet and is making new gassers with the old Nickey Logos on them. People down the road are going to be buying them thinking they’ve got a real one.
