Thank you for this video. It is so sad that people don't know about these food danger's. I have a vineyard next to my farm, and my neighbour kept trying to give my dog grapes!!! I kept explaining that it wasn't good for him, luckily no harm was done and she no longer does it. Some people think that animals will not eat things that are poisonous! Definitely NOT true, especially if they see you eat it. So please keep your doggies safe, especially over Christmas with loads of goodies laying around.
@@DobermanPlanet That's not the worst of it. Last month while walking my dog's on loose leads on a small unmade road by my farm. My doby pup was sniffing at the grass, next thing he has a packet of rat poison in his mouth. Initially he dropped it on command. But as I bent down to pick it up, he did a quick snap and swallowed it whole. Luckily I saw it and was at vets in 15 mins. After daily horrendous injections in his back he has passed the critical stage and looks like he will be ok. But after I walked along without my dog's and not only found packets of poison but for 15 meters there was poison grain all over the road. This wasn't just a hazard to dogs but all manner of wildlife.
My last doberman got into several stockings full of chocolate one Christmas. Ate it all. Didn't end up having any sort of adverse reaction, and we had even taken him into the vet who was like "how is this dog not, at the very least, sick?" Only thing we had to deal with was cleaning up tinsel (from the chocolate wrappings) decorated craps out of the yard. To this day, we're (vet and I) still in awe at how resilient Octavious (my old doberman, named after the Spider-Man villain) was to the chocolate. I recognize most dogs aren't this lucky, so people, please try to keep your dogs out of chocolate. Don't try it.
So glad everything worked out ok. That is scary! I do wonder if these dogs aren't a lot more resilient than science would have us believe. It's still good to avoid these foods of course but yeah I've heard of many bouncing back without issues.
hi ! i’m planning on getting a doberman soon and your videos are amazing, do you have any videos on the best flea medication for cats and dogs ? i’ve been looking everywhere and i cant find not one good video (also i never seem to use the medications right since my indoor cat always tend to get them back ??)
Love watching Arlo goof around in your videos, reminds me of our late Sarge. Just a big goofy boy his whole life. If your dog does get ahold of something bad best thing to do is get your turkey baster and soot some Peroxide down his throat. It will make him vomit and is 100 % safe to do. My wifes cousin is a vet and that was what we had to do to my mother in laws dog one Christmas when he ate 1 lb. of chocolate covered peanuts.
Arlo has grown so much and he's beautiful. Happy to see he's doing so well. The only thing on your list I really have to worry about is onions. I love onions and make my gravy with it. Sometimes I would put a little on Blu's food as a treat. Or when I give him his heartworm meds which I crumble up and put it in his food. He won't take it whole. He'll be 6 in May and still spoiled rotten. That's my baby though. Hope you and the family are doing well. Merry Christmas! 🎄
My boy snuck in our room one year at Halloween and ate a 4 lb bag of tootsie rolls! My vet said we were lucky because it was milk chocolate and he puked and pooped it all out, wrappers and all! He also likes to break into trash cans and eat garbage... such a trouble maker! We love him!
Eggs are perfectly safe for dogs, Eggs are a great source of nutrition for your canine companion. They are high in protein, fatty acids, vitamins, and fatty acids that help support your dog inside and out
If you have a dog that likes to eat wood or bark, beware of birch bark as it contains xylitol - we found out the hard way when our doberman got very sick and lethargic from eating birch bark outside. After an overnight stay at the emergency vet's, she was fine to go home but a lesson learned, and something we didn't know about her eating wood and tree bark.
Actually coming from natural foods and feeding dogs with real natural food I have heard from many sources and even personal experience feeding a dog 1 garlic clove a day is good for it and we been doing it for years for a doberman and she is 9 years old now and doing good, it is a very common thing used to give dogs for combating fleas and with many other healthy benefits.
Omg thank you John for this , I'm finally getting my Euro dobe puppy on the 24th 😋😍 I can't wait, but thank you for this info . I knew about most of these but I did not know about anything with Xylitol!!so thank you . Bye Arlo 😋🤗

I had to chase them until they dropped it! They havent touched one since the first time they went in our bkyrd. The look on their face too when they dropped... like a baby was given a lemon! So funny
Great video as usual, love seeing Arlo. Raw meat, eggs and bones are not dangerous to dogs. I have been feeding my dog raw for a while now. Yes cooked bones are dangerous. There is the risk of salmonella poisoning for yourself I guess, but you should be taking certain precautions when handling raw meats anyway.
Thanks so much, I'm really glad you liked it! Yeah, as for the raw meat thing... first off I'm certainly more conservative with my "safety" stuff than most, so keep that in mind. Haha. But here's an article by VCA hospitals discussing the position of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) against feeding raw diets (including raw meat) to dogs: vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/dogs-and-raw-food-diets I'm certainly still a little suspicious of the stance they take, especially when so many people like yourself have fed raw meats to their dogs without any problems. The other thing that makes me suspicious is when you read a lot of the research about why feeding raw meat to a dog is bad, the research will many times take a sudden left turn and focus in on the dangers to humans in the house with cross-contamination and not the dangers to the dog. But never the less, these studies still seem to conclude that raw meat is dangerous to the dog (most studies show a 25%-30% rate of infection of the salmonella bacteria in dogs that are fed raw meat). But then again, they often go on to say they're asymptomatic (showing no symptoms), but that they're spreading the bacteria. So for me personally, there's just too many questions surrounding it for now. But unfortunately, a lot of the government sponsored research outlets say it's unsafe. I guess then it just depends on how much you trust them and their approach to studying things like that!

Awesome vid like always and i also wanted to ask you , does arlo sleep wherever he’s at or does he need a bed. Cause my dog Rex whines and barks just to get inside his cage, so he can sleep
We have been feeding our Dobermans 1 hind quarter of raw chicken each morning for the past 8 years and often raw cow leg bones cut down just as long. Dogs are the same internally as wolves their systems are made to digest raw meats and bones. One word of caution do not let your Dobermans drink water right after consuming dry kibble, we always wait about 40 minutes after their meal of a quality kibble because they are subject to bloat which can kill your dog.. P.S. raw meats are good for your dogs teeth because of the enzymes in the raw meat, our Dobermans are 8 years old and their teeth are as white as a puppies with no tarter build up whatsoever and plus the enzymes help in their digestive systems as well..!

My only problem with my 2&1/2 year old Rufus which he’s getting much better at is his attention outside and to stop him from running and definitely not coming to me when I call him. I know he knows he is just stubborn. I worry about him getting away from my wife when he sees a cat or small dog, today he pulled her down and scraped her knees. The major issue I guess is how to make him stop on command and return. I don’t want him to seriously hurt another animal or himself especially get hit by a car. I heard choker collars can seriously hurt him. Please help asap. He was very aggressive when I got him from a bad environment at 6 months old. He’s very sweet now but plays aggressively which I can handle or tell him lay down. I just need him to stop and return on command. Quite a challenge. He’s come a long way except for that. My first one (passed 20 years ago) did everything I said without any real training. Just by his vocabulary and listening. This poor guy was abused and neglected before I got him. He is what got me out of bed after after a year due to chemo and radiation. If he would pay more attention outside and stop and come to me he would be perfect. I really need help with this last issue. Oh btw he’s never been without me since I got him because separation anxiety but that is ok I don’t mind having him with me 24/7.After 2 straight years + always with me I think I’m stuck. My Doberman literally climbs up our apple tree & picks an apple...a very unusual sight! We always grab the apple, cut it up & remove the seeds. Good video, thank you!
Always fun and educational! Thanks John and Arlo!
Thank you so much I’m getting a Doberman and this helped a lot thank you
I'm getting my Doberman Feb 5th. I've been watching every video in the last 1.5 weeks. Not ready yet, but with all you're information you're sharing life will be so much easier when I get her.
The anticipation must be overwhelming. It would be for me!
@@suzannethepatriot8049 it really is. I never had a dog of my own before and I was a little hesitant at 1st but then I started watching videos and reading and I think I'll be ready when the time comes. 🤞
I'm so excited for your Kristian! Not long now! You'll do great!
Great information! I absolutely love all the videos!
Awesome! Thank you so much, that really does mean a lot!
Lost my Doberman last week, from intestinal issues. Still heartbroken. Happened so fast.
I'm so sorry to hear that :( but I completely understand. On the 23rd September (this year) I lost my my Czech Shepherd to Autoimmune disease and tumours. Went downhill so fast, within 2 weeks, I'm devastated, heartbroken and completely lost without him. He would have been 10 on the 26th October :( it's no easier now to deal with, just hope that the grief eases with time.
What happened was it the food ?

Wow! I can't believe I'm seeing this video the same day it was posted! Though I have to admit, I'm always scrolling through your channel, looking for ANY videos I didn't watch. 😂😂😂
Thank you for posting all of the videos, @Doberman Planet 💕💕💕
So glad you are enjoying the videos! Of course! Please don't be a stranger in the comments sections in the future!
@@DobermanPlanet Emma Qu. Thanks for posting regularly! :)
thank you so much for your videos
a few months ago we got a doberman named Lola we are crazy for her.
again thank you for your videos.
This video is just as informative as your other videos. You know how to build value to your channel. Get my Doberman puppy finally tomorrow. Thanks for these videos.
Thanks so much and CONGRATS on your new pup! I'm really excited for you! Take lots of pictures and enjoy it (even the tough times) because those puppy stages do go by SO fast!
I'll let you know when I post a video of him.
Oh man that would stress me out if my neighbor was continuously giving my dog grapes! Glad you got things figured out!
Hi John! Do you think it's a good idea to refill your Dobie's bowl twice during eating to reduce bloat chances?
Can you please make a video about teeth brushing? Once or twice a day? Which toothbrush? Which toothpaste? Thank you very much.
Thank you Valerie! We're pretty fond of Arlo that's for sure! It's hard not to spoil these dogs that's for sure. Merry Christmas to you too!
Oh dang my Mom used to tell me about her Doberman that was obsessed with Grapes.
Excellent!
Sprinkle HOT PEPPER IN THE GARBAGE... HE/SHE WON'T GO IN THE GARBAGE...
So glad it worked out ok in the end! Very scarry!
Today is December 15th. Happy birthday Arlo 🎉 🎉🎉
Eggs are perfectly safe for dogs, Eggs are a great source of nutrition for your canine companion. They are high in protein, fatty acids, vitamins, and fatty acids that help support your dog inside and out
Great vid!
Such a great tip! I didn't know that! Great, now I need to go do more research again. Haha!
Do you have a video on how to post cropped ears like you do for your pups. I can’t find that method anywhere?
Omg thank you John for this , I'm finally getting my Euro dobe puppy on the 24th 😋😍 I can't wait, but thank you for this info . I knew about most of these but I did not know about anything with Xylitol!!so thank you . Bye Arlo 😋🤗
Definitely Barb, so glad you enjoyed the info and CONGRATS on your pup that you have coming! So great! Hang in there, take lots of pictures (the puppy stages are tough but they go fast), and enjoy!
could you make a video about Doberman jumping habits? specifically jumping on people. Thankjs
We have a lemon tree in the bkyrs and both our new med doberman and full size doberman picked up on on the ground and ran around the yard for a whole min in their mouth! I had to chase them until they dropped it! They havent touched one since the first time they went in our bkyrd. The look on their face too when they dropped... like a baby was given a lemon! So funny
arlo looks so good! wow
I am so in love with his shiny coat, he looks very healthy 🙋♀️🇩🇪
Great video as usual, love seeing Arlo. Raw meat, eggs and bones are not dangerous to dogs. I have been feeding my dog raw for a while now. Yes cooked bones are dangerous. There is the risk of salmonella poisoning for yourself I guess, but you should be taking certain precautions when handling raw meats anyway.
I also feed my dogs raw and as we have poultry they often get eggs too, lovely coats no digestive issues.
Thanks so much, I'm really glad you liked it! Yeah, as for the raw meat thing... first off I'm certainly more conservative with my "safety" stuff than most, so keep that in mind. Haha. But here's an article by VCA hospitals discussing the position of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) against feeding raw diets (including raw meat) to dogs: vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/dogs-and-raw-food-diets
I'm certainly still a little suspicious of the stance they take, especially when so many people like yourself have fed raw meats to their dogs without any problems.
My Dobie’s favorite food is raw sweet potatoes..... frikkin loves em 🤷🏻♀️
I know of another food that’s bad for dog’s...it’s AVOCADO! I’m in college pursuing a career in Veterinary Trauma Surgical Nursing and I am owned by 3 big, bigger, & a giant Saint Bernard girl. So I’m very interested in every bit of knowledge to help every dog like a sponge...haha! I just wanted to let you know and Thank you for the video! Enjoyed it
Awesome vid like always and i also wanted to ask you , does arlo sleep wherever he’s at or does he need a bed. Cause my dog Rex whines and barks just to get inside his cage, so he can sleep
Thank you so much Randall!
What type of food do you recommend for my doberman
I get more anxious the more items you list, poor Dobie's
Really this stuff applies to all dogs. But yeah, I get it!
I give all of those as treats to my girls. They also like cantaloupe, tri color bell peppers and sweet potatoes.
This very helpful.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
So glad!
Arlo is getting huge!
I just saw a video like this a few days ago. I didn't think grapes would be bad for them.
Yeah it's strange! What's weird is they don't seem to know why either but they wreck havoc on their kidneys.
Safest option: Ban Grandma!
Haha poor Grandma! She's trying!
Nicely done video.
Thanks Keith, so glad you liked it!

I just checked Ollie's the food plan they suggested for my Doberman has peas in the recipes. Isn't peas one of the legumes that cause DCM?
Yes.
Was under the impression that DCM was genetic ??
@@jamespaterson6550 it can be. Just like cancer. Can be caused by many factors.
I believe you're referring to this release: www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/animal-health-literacy/questions-answers-fda-center-veterinary-medicines-investigation-possible-connection-between-diet-and#:~:text=1.-,What%20potential%20connection%20is%20the%20FDA%20investigating%3F,or%20potatoes%20as%20main%20ingredients.
In the case of Dobermans, DCM is thought to be more related to a genetic cause and not diet induced as it is for other breeds. But there's so much they still don't know about DCM. Lexapro is right, that there's likely many factors.
I’ve heard grapes are also very dangerous.
Thanks for the info on this for our fur-babies.. My first Doberman lived to 12 and he loved having warm tea with milk for years.. Oops, no more tea for them..
Definitely! Glad you enjoyed it. My understanding is it's just the caffeine in the tea. Unless there's also artificial sweeteners in there like Xylitol of course.
Thank you for this 🥰
Of course!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Is cooked or raw beef okay to feed a doberman puppy? I would like to give him more protein, but don't want him sick.

Our vet said the same thing, stay away from grain free for dobies.

Oh, I must say: Your videos are awesome.
