This guy is talking like these traits are exclusive to only the Doberman breed. i had a German shepherd & her characteristics & mannerisms were the same as pretty much all he discribed lol. It was also kind of Dumb & ignorant of him at the start with the comparison he made with dogs to cars by saying are you gonna get a dog or are you gonna get a dog. Insinuating that the smaller breeds are lesser of an animal, its all a matter of opinion & what specific breed the owner likes. I like German shepherds for example but i don't think lesser of the woman & her Yorkshire terrier down the street. Same as with his car comparison people like different cars you dont HAVE to own a corvette to own a ' REAL CAR" I like & have owned a Bmw M3 but i don't look down on the guy down the street who has a Volvo as that man is content & happy with his car.. Its all a matter of opinion. This guys personality is very vain & he seems to think if you don't have a flash fast car or a matcho powerful dog breed then your lesser, he has gone about making this video all wrong in my opinion comparing cars ( pieces of metal) to actual living breathing animals. At the end of the day whatever you want & whatever makes you happy do it or buy it or whatever don't worry what other shallow vain people think. Having said that I don't think this guy is a bad person or horrible person or nothing like that i just think the comparisons he's made has come across all wrong.
@Tod Roberts mine was the same she was always watching me & wanted to be close to me if i sat down she'd come over & pretty much near sit ontop of my feet or she'd rest her chin on the tops of my feet. They are an extremely switched on breed ( probably similar to the Doberman) they never miss a trick & pick up on every little detail & thing you do. I used to be working on my car in the yard & she'd come & lye out in the yard watching everything i did she probably used to know what size of socket of spanner i was using to work on my car ect as she used to watch me that much lol! Having said that they are sensitive dogs to ( well mine was anyway) like if i was working on my car & somthing went wrong & i swore even without raising my voice as soon as she would hear a curse/swear word she would get up & walk away into her kennel she didn't like swearing lol! As i say the gsd is an unbelievably alert clever breed & so trainable
Someone cropped it's ears, they have floppy ears, and someone docked it's tail, they are born with longer tails. All these practicies are illegal in the UK. Dobermans are natural here.
The saddest thing about growing old is not being able to own a Dobie. When I had teenage daughters I was afraid to leave them home alone so I got a Dobie. A repairman once told me that my dog was totally different when the wife and girls were home alone. When I was home, the dog was relaxed and friendly. When I wasn't home, my Dobie watched him like a hawk. It made him nervous as hell. Good dog!
Maybe you could foster!? That's what I hope to be able to do as I prepare myself for the loss of my BFF whose 10yrs old now. I hope and pray I can have her for many more years 💞♥️💞
As a kid my friend had a female Doberman it was friendly but at first when the dog came up to me I was scared of it, my friends parents told me it will not hurt me.
@@bethpoore2685 Same, in the past 15 months I have lost two retired girl greyhounds at 12 - 13 yrs old, now there is just my 14 yr old staffy left and her grey face reminds me we don't have much time left but I have taken her lead she just enjoys life and loves us.
@@chrisgonzalez1502 the biggest issue i had with my dog as a puppy was separation anxiety so i would recommend focusing on that..socializing with both dogs and humans, potty training then obedience and lots of playing because a doberman can get very destructive, remember a tired dog is a happy dog
My first Dobie used to smile at me when I used to return home. My current baby watches me sleeping, I've snapped awake a few times due to him watching me.
Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
I’m 41 and I still miss my childhood Dobie, he was so goofy and loved to cuddle with me in bed. He growled at my ex husband before we got married. Haha I should have listened to him
Can you suggest a dog breed for me plz. I have a hugging personality and can be irritating to other because of it . Will it irritate dogs too?? Can you choose From the following plz - husky, dobberman ,ģerman shepherd, pomerian and golden retriever. It will be my first dog experience plz help .

@@justaneverydaycatiguess744 I recommend a poodle! Seriously, poodles get a bad rap because of the foo foo haircut, but they are smart, sweet, biddable, highly trainable dogs. They pocess a high degree of emotional intelligence and make great dogs for first time owners. They come in 3 sizes too. Dobie's are great dogs but they need a strong, knowledgeable owner. I hope you find the right dog for you!
I grew up with a Doberman. I didn't know about the eye contact thing until I was an adult. She would look with the most curious look on her face. I was also amazed how she could keep track of what time each family would get home. She would sit by the door 5 minutes before each person was due home. No cues from clocks, bells, or tv programs. Very smart dog.
You might not think there is one but I bet there is a cue or series of things that happen before the next person comes home. Animals are smarter than we think and also they may be responding to information that you can't perceive, sounds you can't hear, smells.
@@DopeBoysofatlanta it’s a sign of affection. They will just sit and look u in the eyes for long periods of time which is very unique in the dog world. Most will only do it as a sign of dominance, or take it as one and will look away quickly bc they think ur challenging them or showing them ur the alpha of the pack. Dobies are like lovebird teenagers tho and just gaze into ur eyes for long periods. My boy Jaxx would do it all the time. The sweetest, most melt ur heart eyes in the world! They are SOOOOOOO different than ANY other breed. There are plenty of amazing dogs, and even dog breeds, but dobermans are just different. They’re like people
I haven’t been able to get another one after losing mine to old age. I don’t think I could handle going thru that again. Before I got mine, I had someone tell me they couldn’t get them anymore bc it hurt to much to lose them and I didn’t understand. She was like oh we’ve had 4, but not anymore. Now we have regular dogs. We love them, and it’s sad when they pass, but losing ur dobie is one of the hardest passings u’ll ever have to deal with and we just can’t handle that loss anymore. I didn’t get it then, but I get it now! It’s been 8 years and Iv only recently thought i might be ready again.
My doberman is the reason I ended up taking a test and finding out I am pregant! He started being EVEN MORE needy and velcro-y, he also started putting himself between myself and literally everyone but my kids. It just seemed different, we had been trying for 7 months so I decided to just go ahead and take a test even though I had no symptoms. Turns out I was just over 4 weeks along! Thanks Apollo boy ❤️
Can confirm this is a fact. My mum and dad had a doberman before my brother and sister and I were born. Their doberman knew when my mum waw pregnant each time precisely because he got even more attached to my mum. And he also wouldn't let anyone near us as babies in our home without my mum or dad first asking them to take a seat and let the dog sniff them to check them out before they held us as a baby. Doberman's are wonderful dogs 😁. So loyal and brave!
I am 74 and know that I am too old to have another Doberman. They have an incredible amount of energy that demands time and participation with their owners that I know I can't provide. I still get a wistful tear in my eye whenever I see one with its owner and think of how it was with my girl Doberman and me twenty years ago. I took her to Quebec, and we walked the streets and she, carrying her leash in her mouth, was so unlike other dogs.
You can get a rescue! The gal I rescued wants to be in my bed all the time! She was so horribly abused she's just so thankful and sweet and of course smart! Please don't count yourself out! You could give a Doberman a whole new life! Btw I adopted my sweet girl n love her very much 💕 We definitely needed each other ❤

We needed each other no doubt! U adopted her!! I don't cry everyday anymore but have to admit I've shed more than a few tears writing this....
I'm on my 8th Dobie now & my last 2 have been rescues & I'm 57 yrs old & when my 8th one passes I will rescue another & so on til I can't no longer do it. I'm definitely getting to old to handle a puppy or a younger Dobie, but I can rescue adult or senior Dobies for sure.... I love the Doberman Pinscher breeds 💯%....
Same here with Great Danes. My current pups are great dogs ( 14 and 16 lbs) and I resist pining over the Danes. Sometimes it's hard. Responsible, but hard.
The being in tune with emotions thing is great with my female Doberman and my wife who has depression issues. She always knows when my wife isn’t feeling well. Even when she tries to put on a brave face and hide it. My Doberman will just come up and put all her weight on my wife like a security blanket. Now I know why.
When people ask about "owning a Dobermann" , I say they "own" you. Have found when I am sad, my guys bring over a toy and if I am really sad, they just lay next to me and comfort snuggle.
Perfect description. Yeah they really can read your emotions like that and know what you're going through it's amazing. That's why Doberman owners are so crazy about their dogs! Because their dogs are so crazy about them!
Yep, we're basically living in their world. Its their couch you're sitting on, their bed etc. Its funny, my last dobe last 13 years, the one in my picture. I used to get random strangers saying "man that dog LOVEs you" I guess just seeing how she would follow me around or just stare at me. She was an amazing dog, the best I ever had. Took me years to begin looking for another Dobe (5 years), but put a deposit down from the same breeder i got her and my other one from. Pups are being born in about 2 months. I've owned Dobes nearly half my life though and this will be my 4th.
They definitely own you. Hugo knew if I was feeling up, down, or sideways. We watched Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune every evening when I was on dayshift, and he would wake me up for Price is Right when I was on nightshift, even if I didn't want to watch. LOL!!!
I still remember a program on animal planet or NAT geo “Donnie the Doberman” . He would arrange his toys in patterns, maybe try different arrangements, obviously had meaning for him. I think he was showing his human what his life had been like before she adopted him from a shelter.
Pray for my dobermans recovery. She was in the hospital for 6 days and just just released. She is currently on medication due to kidney and liver failure. Apprantly she must have ate something. :(
@@Hammett175 we just came from a check up. Looks like her body is taking the meds well. Her kidney values are back to normal. However, her liver is healing. But very slowly. So they are going to continue her on liver support meds
Her liver healing, even if it’s slowly, is a good sign. I know exactly how you feel right now as we had the same thing happen with our Dobie. Sp I will definitely remember her in prayer.
I’ve owned “bully breeds” most my life. Dogs like Rotty’s, pit bulls, boxers & am-staffs. And now I have a female Dobie. The temperament of a dobie is SO DIFFERENT from bully breeds. My dobie is very “aloof” & ball-driven. We literally have to hide balls from her because she’s so obsessed. She has no desire to socialize with other dogs nor does she care to socialize with other people other than our immediate family. And to be honest, she’s mostly only wants to be around ME. More so than anyone else in my family. She’s VERY protective. Not aggressive, just very protective. It’s very different owning a dobie but I’m loving every moment of it. ✌🏾
I have a rotterman, she is the same way. Completely ball crazy, little to no interest in socializing with other dogs or people, loves cats though. I once had a ball in the pocket of my jacket, no way she should have known that it was there, and sniffed it out no problem.
I thought am staffs and pit bulls were basically the same thing I didn't think pit bulls really existed. I thought they were always just a mix of staffs etc
@Jacob the Embalmer pit bull is an umbrella term but there is an American pit bull terrier (a younger now recognized dog breed.. they were called pits bc they putthem in pits lol there's more read up about it very cool
My lad is a lifesaver: as a type 1 diabetic he'll tell me my blood levels are dropping before I feel the early symptoms of a hypo! He's got the intelligence to get me to safety when I'm not able to look after myself!

My doberman and I were in the waiting room at my vet's office. My dog was laying at my feet, with her arms crossed, looking at the lady across the room holding her Chihuahua on her lap. The lady eventually said, "Oh My God! Your dog's eyes are burning into my soul." She then stood up and left the office quite rattled.
I've had dobermans for 67 years, born into them. Never had a problem, but what makes them different is that they have an uncommon knowledge of language. I have been able to just talk to mine and they know exactly what I'm saying.
Yep agree i have a 6yr old very family friendly male dobe. He understands what I emote to him. I'm not sure if its language he knows commands and some words but I think it's more he reads my emotional feelings and his surroundings. Hes the best boy x so intuitive
I had Dobermans when I was a child. The first one was the best. We got her when I was 4 or 5 years old. I was the one who played with her and spent time with her, so she became firmly MY DOG. My mum had to secure her somewhere else every morning when I left for school or she would try to come with me. Where I went, she went and if I was sitting on the ground she would sit or lie next to me, just pressing into my side. I miss her.
Best dog ever!!! Rode shotgun with me everywhere and I was happy to have him along. Easily trained, loyal, and affectionate. Truth be told more worthy to hang with than most people. RIP Duke SEMPER FI.
A former friend of mine trained Dobermans in the U.S. Army. They were too smart to be used. They knew they were being sent out to die. They are capable of the reasoning of a nine year old child. Extremely smart dogs.
I had doberman non stop for the last 30 years (I currently have 5 of them in the house) and it is all true. At the office when someone ask me advice about dogs, like someone thinking of getting a dog for their family, I always tell them:" It is very simple...dogs can be divided in 2 categories....There are the Doberman...then there are the other dogs...." LOL
But at the same time, not overly aggressive. They are intelligent and highly trainable. They MUST be able to play, to run around all they wish, or they will feel like their in prison even in a large backyard. You have to walk them a lot and take them to dog parks, go hiking with them.
My not a Doberman (Chow Chow) is wary of strangers, tolerates acquaintances and is friendly to people he likes (when he's in the mood)...great qualities
My grandmother had a Doberman when I was a child. I loved that dog so much. We would play for hours. I’ve always been interested in owning one as an adult. I’m glad to be validated that the traits I fell in love with are part of the breed.
I like how you mentioned Dobermans always check in with their owners. I love that aspect of them. Jax would not only look for me, but would run to me and nose bump me. Always a nose bump.
What a beauty. Lucky you! When I was a child my parents dobie saved my life. He kept me from running in front of a car by grabbing my clothes and pulling me back from the street.
I can actually relate!!! My Doberman saved me actually twice: We have to stairs. One to our garden and one to get from the first to the 2nd floor. As a child, I wanted to go those down on my own with my "running cage thingy". Both times "Naja" (Dob's Name) stood in front of me, so I couldn't get past her down those stairs, where I would have probably broken my Neck (Stone stairs). Sadly she passed away when I still wasn't even a Teenager to cancer :( Still have a picture of her in my room with a nice quote. I lost my Anubis this year to old age. I love how right you were in this video, especially about the no personal space part. My Dobie was my shadow ever since he was a pup, and still feel that he is. Picking up on my emotions, he would know when I was having a hard time with my depression or had an emotional breakdown, and would practically lay on top of me until I felt better. He was very smart, he was excellent at searching out treats and toys I'd hide in random spots as a game. At night, I'd tell him "Perimeter Check", and he would go and scan room to room, front door and backdoor, before bedtime. He knew a few commands I'd say in German and Español, and when I'd say "Gentleman", that he'd need to gently take a treat from my hand. Eye contact, definitely felt like he was peering into my soul, but not intimidating to me, it was more loving. He was very protective of me and my son and daughter, and was very much like a pup until the end, he was 11 years old. Dobermans are something truly special, unlike any breed I've ever known. I would recommend this breed to everyone, great for families, or if you're solo...they will love, protect, and bond to you in a way that they are like your child.
So true, I had a Doberman as a kid and when I went to bed she would use her nose to get under the covers and then sleep at my feet. But she was a great, tough watch dog. She would run with our horses and when the horse kicked her (in full stride) she yelped but got right back up and ran with the horses. No fear no matter how big the threat. I love my Doberman Pincher.
Watching the bloopers at the end, just proves something I've heard and seen in person.. male Dobies, when they are relaxed and happy...are true goofballs.

I have posted before, Louie is a fawn Doberman, so he looks more like a body building Weimaraner with shorter ears. Scooby Doo on non-agressive goofy steroids. I wanted to add to the 6 points to help with the breed from what I have seen: 1) If you have things to do, never ignore him or her 100%. Stop, look them in the eye and give and speak true affection. Then, you can go about your business without them getting too anxious most of the time. That is their nature, they are not huskies. And, keep talking to and acknowledging them no matter what you are doing. 2) Sit in the middle of the couch, Lol. That gives plenty of room on both sides. They think they are lapdogs, literally. Louie thinks he is 25lbs but he weighs in at 100lbs. Do not get too angry, most of the mistakes he makes are related to him not realizing what his size can do. He will literally try and squeeze into 3 to 6 inches of couch beside me sticking his 3 foot wide butt right in my face. Why? It is the most snug and closest place he can get to me, so he goes for it even if there is 4 feet on the other side of us.. Beautiful best friends, but patience and understanding are needed to have one. And, he snores funny. 3) They can get really worked up in protection mode but it is not vicious. I didn't even need to teach him an alert command- I just say "what is it?" And he is instantly on alert, even though he snaps to attention on his own most of the time. The best way to calm him is to acknowledge his alert, praise him for it, then you can more easily settle him. Yelling at him to shut up does not work like with other breeds, it might even excite him more because he is trying to tell you something. It is the one job he is bred to have, he takes his work seriously and wants to be noticed for it. That is it. Rambled too long.
We had Dobermans for over 30 years here in Scotland, and you are spot on with your descriptions. DCM is a big problem here in Europe, and I lost two boys at seven years old 😢 I would love another one but couldn't deal with the heartache 💔 again.
My last of 4 dobermans died 5 years ago and I still miss him. My third doberman saved my baby when my husband accidentally let go and her stroller rolled down hill. Yuma ran in front and stopped it. When my late husband died my Dobie was my comfort and when I first met my current husband my Dobie jumped in between us the first visit, clearly marking his ownership!.they are unique
Everything you describe is so true. I thought it was just my doberman. Especially the shadowing around the house and the eye contact. He's also aware of everything that's going on.
My wife couldn't stand our first doberman we had together because of how clingy she was. A couple years after she passed, my wife said she missed having a doberman... now we have 2... and she can't stand how clingy they are again🤣🤣🤣🤣
I just got a Dobie puppy last week. Hes absolutely blown my mind at how smart he is! 8 weeks old he sit the very first time I asked him to! Like he already knew it, same with shake. I asked the breeder if he had any training and she said none at all! Already house trained as well! He follows me everywhere. I was a little nervous getting one because I've always been into raising and rescuing pits. They're an amazing breed as well. But after just one week of getting my boy I'm extremely satisfied. Hes definitely a GOOD BOY!
Mine, (Zosha is her name) will be 5 this summer and I _do_ *not* envy anyone who has a doberman puppy. I love Zosha more than most anything, but good Lord, she was a *nightmare* as a puppy. It wasn't until about 2 where she pressed the "chill" button and it's been on since. Doberman puppy= 😳🤯😡😤🎉 Doberman adult= 😎
Wonder777 Warrior I’m 52, thing is I used to live in Cuba and 3 of them died of parvovirus, the last 2 I raised them together in USA. My last one died of natural causes he was 14 years 4 months.

We adopted a 2 yr old male Doberdork in July 21 (our first Dobie). Our female pittie cross thinks it's necessary to take all toys away from him (he is so respectful of her). He was getting his human love and she butted in and of course he stepped away BUT he went and got a bone and dropped in on the floor and as soon as she heard the bone drop she immediately went to take it away leaving my side and he instantly returned for his human love. He figured her out haha.
I had a mutant 100 lb dobie, all muscle/no fat. He was super social, loved playing with kids and I would often see the mailman sitting on the step petting and talking to him when he was chained out front. Smartest dog I ever had, he spoiled me for all other dogs. It took many hours of training when he was young but it was well worth it.
Years ago my wife wanted a dog, anything with four feet snd s tail. We researched all the different breeds and decided on a female Doberman. My wife spent almost every afternoon at training classes, After a few months, our Dobie was trained in Shutzhund, tracking, total off-leash control, and more. Our dog, Lady, thought she was people, When she sat on a chair her butt was on the chair and her front legs were on the ground, very dignified. She was a joy to take on a trip, always knew what was needed of her all the time, and never gave any trouble like running off or unnecessary barking. She was the most intelligent dog I ever had, and I have had many dogs. At my age, I cannot properly deal with a Dobies needs, and I sure miss my Lady.
Our family had a Doberman, He was a great pet, Very friendly to everyone and other dogs (His best friends were the neighbors Dachshund and a poodle mix). He only disliked two people that I remember and both turned out to be con artists. Very smart dogs!
Derek just reminded me of my Dobe, Colt. If he wanted my chair he’d run over to a window or door and start barking. As soon as I got up to see what he was barking at, he’d steal my chair. It was kind of a game because I knew the difference between his barks and I could tell a serious one from the “I want your chair” one. Love Dobes so much!!🐾❤️🐾
John is just such a subject matter expert on this breed. And does an incredibly excellent job of communicating exactly why dobermans are such an incredible breed of dog. And once you get one of these superior canines, you will never go back to owning any other breed of dog. Great job john!
Another difference in Dobermans is that the males and females have completely different personalities. The males are generally more fun-loving, even goofy, and the females are more serious and alert. It's mind blowing.
My parents had a pair of German Dobes that were snake killing machines. Cayenne (she was Red n Tan) and Cody (Black n Tan male). Cody would run around the snake barking distracting it and Cayenne would wait to pounce on it at the right moment. As soon as the snakes head was turned Cayenne would grab it by the neck and chew its head off then the 2 would play tug of war with it and rip the snake apart. She was bitten by snakes so much Dr Tate (the vet here in Tennessee) would call my mom to have her bring Cayenne in to make the antidote from her blood every time another dog was snake bit.
All of this is so true! I have a male American doberman. We take him to the dog park occasionally, and while he does wander off and play with other dogs, he comes back every 5 minutes or so to check on us. I call it his "drive - by". 😆. If my kids are wandering around the park, he will pick one of them and stick close by. Such great dogs!
I work at a daycare/boarding/training facility and my favorite to work with are the Doberman, by far! When they are not mastering new training moves, they are at my side or literally in between my legs, stepping as I step. They are the sweetest, goofy, angels. Thanks for the information, brother. By far my favorite breed. So much personality, but with a high level of self-discipline. Our family dobie was much loved by everyone in our circle, and many of them nearly shed a tear when they heard that he had died. He was playful and alert right up until the end of his life at 13.
I miss my Dobe so much. He lived a miraculous 13 years. Everything you went over here is exactly the traits of this breed ,to the T! Always aware, always there and totally in tune with your emotions and surroundings. Loyal is not a strong enough word. living alone and in the middle of the woods, he had a playground like few do but never strayed ,ignored or disobeyed, ever. Owning several breeds over the years Dobermans are without a doubt man's best friend. RIP Sams.

So it’s not just my Dobie.... They all have the crazy death stare! 😂😂😂 I love it.... all our boy cares about in the world, is understanding what exactly we want from him. He’s 15 weeks old now, and he’s just brilliant. He was housebroken in less than 2 weeks! By 10 weeks old, he knew where to potty, and where not to potty..... amazingly intelligent.
Always thought these dogs are the perfect blend of dog. Smart, loyal, intelligent, ferocious, good looking, sweet, and goofy. I’m a Giant Schnauzer guy, but Dobies are great! One day I might just get one of my own.
I went to a large house to do some maintenance work, she had a Doberman and it’s bark from the other room sent shivers through my whole body, and I am a dog person who doesn’t usually get intimidated by them.
My dad had a doberman years ago and said that it was one of the best dogs he's had. He was a great guard dog. Years later his dogs grandson won a major dog show. It was so cool!
I've had two of them myself. What an amazing sense of situational awareness. Far better than mine. I always felt like I had a better set of extra eyes when they were around.

I owned a Doberman Rottweiler mix -- his name was Albert and he was a rescue that we adopted after our Rottweiler passed away. We weren't sure about him at first because of all the dogs for adoption, he was already 7 years old. However, there was just something about him that clicked with us -- and we took the risk. BEST DECISION EVER. He was the smartest dog we have ever owned. Sensitive and brave like a rott, but he had this really off the charts spatial and mathematical intelligence that was amazing. He was also silly, loving, tender hearted and very devoted to his two new cat siblings. It always cracks me up that these dogs are portrayed as these blood thirsty monsters in film, when they're loving, devoted, BRILLIANT dogs. To hell and back reliability. I love this breed. The only downside is they don't live forever. I think that's their only flaw.
I am a cat lover. I generally didnt like dogs... Until our company owner bought a dog and he's everywhere in the office and he interacts with me. His eyes stares curiously in everything we do, sometimes he leans on us. Sometimes he's playful and wanted to play chase with us.... I'm here because I searched what his breed is and apparently, it's a Doberman. This cat lover is in love. I hope one day i'll be able to have one, a friend in the house.
I love both dogs and cats, but ive never owned a cat and we havent had a big dog since the old family one passed away over a decade ago. Sometime in the muddy future I plan to get a cat AND a doberman, doberman specifically because of its size and short coat, plus its just a big version of our current dog (min pin). Im hoping that loose plan will work because I have no idea how a doberman will get on with a cat lol.
My childhood dobie had a wicked sense of humor. She was playful and one time while my mom was taking a nap on the sofa, she walked past, looked at her for a moment and just licked her 🤣🤣 My mom woke up spluttering but laughing at the same time
Mousey, was my first dog when I was 3 we got him. My mom let me walk him as we grew up together. She was not afraid of leaving me alone with him. She knew he would not hurt me or let anything happen to me. I miss him so much to this day. I'm 53 now. He was super sweet, protective and smart.
I've had 5 Doberman's and Ive had nothing but great experiences with the breed. So many great stories I could tell that are amazing...2 male and 3 females over a 20 yr period.
One thing I have found and books confirm is that they are a natural for perimeter protection. Our Dobie watchdog Penny was great with people all day long, but when it was time to close up she went on the clock. When she saw it was closing time she would go to all four sides of the fence and bark as she went around. She just wanted people to know that she was coming on duty. She was great.
I had a mutt years ago that was like that. She would periodically walk the perimeter of the house, look out every window, sniff, and when she was satisfied that everything was ok, she’d come back and sit on the couch with me. She was always on duty. I loved her severely!
Live on 10 fenced acres. 3 landscaped. The rest, typical PNW rain forest. By the time my Dobie was a year old, he'd worn a path around the fence-line. Constantly on patrol. On the home owner's insurance policy application, where it inquires as to if a perimeter security device is in place, I answered with 'Doberman'. Got a discount.
My cousin had a very lovable Doberman. It was very tall. It would come over to your car door, and he would be at eye level on all fours. I've never seen a dog cover ground so fast. Beautiful too. And very laid back. The eye contact thing is very on point. So intelligent.
I had my first Dobie he lived 10 years. He was running and playing then just stopped laid down and died last year. Our family has not gotten over him. He is and will be forever in our hearts and a part of this family. I cannot get another dog there will never be another, or another dobie. My heart can’t handle it. Best dog ever.
I have had many dogs throughout my life but my red Doberman was by far the best dog I ever had, and everything you said is true, including being a 75 lb lap dog. Smartest dog I ever had.
Great video. I’ve had GSDs for 50 years but I’ve always loved & respected Dobbies. Both breeds share a lot of the same characteristics. Beautiful breed that demands respect. I really liked how your Dobe was helping you gather firewood.
Absolutely agree on all points. We've had Dobies for about 15 years. Incredible pets, protectors, and friends. They are funny, goofy, and highly inquisitive. Incredibly loving and loyal. They're very strong mentally and physically and you need to keep their energy burned off daily. They need a lot of attention and they're demanding. They can get brain lock while on walks but all easy to train out. Best.Dog.Ever.
The personal space and shadow is number 1#!!! We always say we bought our king size bed for our Doberman. I have 2 other dogs, a pitbul and American bull dog. If either of them are laying beside me, my doberman will grab toys to get the other dogs distracted then race into the spot beside me where the others were! SOOOO damn loyal and smart! Don't wanna say I have a favorite out of my 3 but...... 😉
The part about them being very attentive and protective is sooooo true. I have a Dobie and she barks off the handle the moment someone steps food on my driveway.

I’ve had various dogs throughout my life, but our Dobie really was different. Our red, Euro Dobie was a human in a fur coat. The care and concern he had for me, his communication with me, the strong connection we had… it was was like no other dog. They really do stare into your eyes like a human being with a strong desire to understand and be understood. Miss that handsome boy with all my heart. -Mona

My favorite part is when you talk about being afraid over a scary movie. Now, I haven't had the luxury most of my adult life of living in nice neighborhoods. Even though I've always wanted a doberman for many other reasons, as I got older and moved out of my parents nice house, having a dog to protect me was another reason I wanted a dobe. So yes, sometimes I am afraid of shady people in my neighborhood. Sometimes I walk my dobie without locking the door, and I'm 0% afraid that someone is in my house. This is because my dobe INSTANTLY knows if anyone else has been in there. This was proven to me once when my apartment maintenance person came to fix my toilet while me and my dobe we're out hiking. We came back and he started searching the entire place frantically, couldn't focus on anything else, growling at anything he smelled- mostly in the bathroom. I then noticed the maintenance request form on my kitchen counter. They came and fixed my toilet and without any prompting, my doberman was looking for this strange person who came into our space. Now I've actually taught him to search if I ever feel paranoid and there's no doubt in my mind that anyone could ever break into my house without him knowing and warning me. That in conjunction with his size and intimidating looks/ferocious bark, nobody outside the house ever messes with either of us, despite him actually being one of the sweetest and friendliest dogs I've ever met (to people who don't pose a threat, he does have great instincts as to who is a threat and who is not, if you are not threatening he's more like a lab than a dobe lol). I must say, it is a very peaceful life knowing I'm always safe and my dog isn't aggressive either. I trust him not only with my life 100% but also that I can bring him anywhere around anyone and he wont cause any problems. 🖤🤎
My doberman has taught himself how to open the back screen door, and now let's himself in and out whenever he wants, don't know if that's a good thing, smartest dog I have owned, affectionate and protective even with my close friends.
I used to read my dad's old "Big Little Books" to my daughter's at bedtime. One of the books had the character, Captain Doberman. My daughter's (being very young) called him Dobercapterman. I always smiled about that 😂
The Doberman is so intelligent that they can actually play Chess in regards to reading your every thought and move and be there waiting when you least expect it! They truly do attach themselves to you like Family!
Oh man. I always loved Dobies but after watching this, I'm even more in love with them! I heard they were the smartest dogs, but the loyalty and energy connection is so cool. Especially the eye contact which is just so neat.

Spot on with this. Lost my Dobie a year ago and it hit me harder than the loss of any other dog I've had. You really get attached to them do to their loyalty. You can't go wrong with them.
Very helpful. I'm fostering a dobie/lab mix and the doberman traits are definitely dominant. She is my first of the breed (pitties are much more common for long term foster) and I'm having to engage with her very differently than other breeds. This poor girl was definitely abused given by how much she pancakes at almost everything, but I catch her watching my every movement and she is learning our schedule and walk route very quickly.

This guy is talking like these traits are exclusive to only the Doberman breed. i had a German shepherd & her characteristics & mannerisms were the same as pretty much all he discribed lol. It was also kind of Dumb & ignorant of him at the start with the comparison he made with dogs to cars by saying are you gonna get a dog or are you gonna get a dog. Insinuating that the smaller breeds are lesser of an animal, its all a matter of opinion & what specific breed the owner likes. I like German shepherds for example but i don't think lesser of the woman & her Yorkshire terrier down the street. Same as with his car comparison people like different cars you dont HAVE to own a corvette to own a ' REAL CAR" I like & have owned a Bmw M3 but i don't look down on the guy down the street who has a Volvo as that man is content & happy with his car.. Its all a matter of opinion. This guys personality is very vain & he seems to think if you don't have a flash fast car or a matcho powerful dog breed then your lesser, he has gone about making this video all wrong in my opinion comparing cars ( pieces of metal) to actual living breathing animals. At the end of the day whatever you want & whatever makes you happy do it or buy it or whatever don't worry what other shallow vain people think. Having said that I don't think this guy is a bad person or horrible person or nothing like that i just think the comparisons he's made has come across all wrong.
@Tod Roberts mine was the same she was always watching me & wanted to be close to me if i sat down she'd come over & pretty much near sit ontop of my feet or she'd rest her chin on the tops of my feet. They are an extremely switched on breed ( probably similar to the Doberman) they never miss a trick & pick up on every little detail & thing you do. I used to be working on my car in the yard & she'd come & lye out in the yard watching everything i did she probably used to know what size of socket of spanner i was using to work on my car ect as she used to watch me that much lol! Having said that they are sensitive dogs to ( well mine was anyway) like if i was working on my car & somthing went wrong & i swore even without raising my voice as soon as she would hear a curse/swear word she would get up & walk away into her kennel she didn't like swearing lol! As i say the gsd is an unbelievably alert clever breed & so trainable

Someone cropped it's ears, they have floppy ears, and someone docked it's tail, they are born with longer tails. All these practicies are illegal in the UK. Dobermans are natural here.

The saddest thing about growing old is not being able to own a Dobie. When I had teenage daughters I was afraid to leave them home alone so I got a Dobie. A repairman once told me that my dog was totally different when the wife and girls were home alone. When I was home, the dog was relaxed and friendly. When I wasn't home, my Dobie watched him like a hawk. It made him nervous as hell. Good dog!
You can foster or adopt an older Dobie! That's what I plan to do!

As a kid my friend had a female Doberman it was friendly but at first when the dog came up to me I was scared of it, my friends parents told me it will not hurt me.
@@bethpoore2685 Same, in the past 15 months I have lost two retired girl greyhounds at 12 - 13 yrs old, now there is just my 14 yr old staffy left and her grey face reminds me we don't have much time left but I have taken her lead she just enjoys life and loves us.

@@chrisgonzalez1502 the biggest issue i had with my dog as a puppy was separation anxiety so i would recommend focusing on that..socializing with both dogs and humans, potty training then obedience and lots of playing because a doberman can get very destructive, remember a tired dog is a happy dog

Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

@@justaneverydaycatiguess744 I recommend a poodle! Seriously, poodles get a bad rap because of the foo foo haircut, but they are smart, sweet, biddable, highly trainable dogs. They pocess a high degree of emotional intelligence and make great dogs for first time owners. They come in 3 sizes too. Dobie's are great dogs but they need a strong, knowledgeable owner. I hope you find the right dog for you!

I grew up with a Doberman. I didn't know about the eye contact thing until I was an adult. She would look with the most curious look on her face. I was also amazed how she could keep track of what time each family would get home. She would sit by the door 5 minutes before each person was due home. No cues from clocks, bells, or tv programs. Very smart dog.
You might not think there is one but I bet there is a cue or series of things that happen before the next person comes home. Animals are smarter than we think and also they may be responding to information that you can't perceive, sounds you can't hear, smells.

@@DopeBoysofatlanta it’s a sign of affection. They will just sit and look u in the eyes for long periods of time which is very unique in the dog world. Most will only do it as a sign of dominance, or take it as one and will look away quickly bc they think ur challenging them or showing them ur the alpha of the pack. Dobies are like lovebird teenagers tho and just gaze into ur eyes for long periods. My boy Jaxx would do it all the time. The sweetest, most melt ur heart eyes in the world!

I haven’t been able to get another one after losing mine to old age. I don’t think I could handle going thru that again. Before I got mine, I had someone tell me they couldn’t get them anymore bc it hurt to much to lose them and I didn’t understand. She was like oh we’ve had 4, but not anymore. Now we have regular dogs. We love them, and it’s sad when they pass, but losing ur dobie is one of the hardest passings u’ll ever have to deal with and we just can’t handle that loss anymore. I didn’t get it then, but I get it now! It’s been 8 years and Iv only recently thought i might be ready again.

My doberman is the reason I ended up taking a test and finding out I am pregant! He started being EVEN MORE needy and velcro-y, he also started putting himself between myself and literally everyone but my kids. It just seemed different, we had been trying for 7 months so I decided to just go ahead and take a test even though I had no symptoms. Turns out I was just over 4 weeks along! Thanks Apollo boy ❤️
Can confirm this is a fact. My mum and dad had a doberman before my brother and sister and I were born. Their doberman knew when my mum waw pregnant each time precisely because he got even more attached to my mum. And he also wouldn't let anyone near us as babies in our home without my mum or dad first asking them to take a seat and let the dog sniff them to check them out before they held us as a baby.
Doberman's are wonderful dogs 😁. So loyal and brave!

I am 74 and know that I am too old to have another Doberman. They have an incredible amount of energy that demands time and participation with their owners that I know I can't provide. I still get a wistful tear in my eye whenever I see one with its owner and think of how it was with my girl Doberman and me twenty years ago. I took her to Quebec, and we walked the streets and she, carrying her leash in her mouth, was so unlike other dogs.
Ever think about getting a senior Dobe? I’m sure there are plenty needing homes.
You can get a rescue! The gal I rescued wants to be in my bed all the time! She was so horribly abused she's just so thankful and sweet and of course smart! Please don't count yourself out! You could give a Doberman a whole new life! Btw I adopted my sweet girl n love her very much 💕 We definitely needed each other ❤

We needed each other no doubt! U adopted her!! I don't cry everyday anymore but have to admit I've shed more than a few tears writing this....
I'm on my 8th Dobie now & my last 2 have been rescues & I'm 57 yrs old & when my 8th one passes I will rescue another & so on til I can't no longer do it. I'm definitely getting to old to handle a puppy or a younger Dobie, but I can rescue adult or senior Dobies for sure.... I love the Doberman Pinscher breeds 💯%....
Same here with Great Danes. My current pups are great dogs ( 14 and 16 lbs) and I resist pining over the Danes. Sometimes it's hard. Responsible, but hard.
The being in tune with emotions thing is great with my female Doberman and my wife who has depression issues. She always knows when my wife isn’t feeling well. Even when she tries to put on a brave face and hide it. My Doberman will just come up and put all her weight on my wife like a security blanket. Now I know why.

When people ask about "owning a Dobermann" , I say they "own" you. Have found when I am sad, my guys bring over a toy and if I am really sad, they just lay next to me and comfort snuggle.

Yep, we're basically living in their world. Its their couch you're sitting on, their bed etc. Its funny, my last dobe last 13 years, the one in my picture. I used to get random strangers saying "man that dog LOVEs you" I guess just seeing how she would follow me around or just stare at me. She was an amazing dog, the best I ever had. Took me years to begin looking for another Dobe (5 years), but put a deposit down from the same breeder i got her and my other one from. Pups are being born in about 2 months. I've owned Dobes nearly half my life though and this will be my 4th.
They definitely own you. Hugo knew if I was feeling up, down, or sideways. We watched Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune every evening when I was on dayshift, and he would wake me up for Price is Right when I was on nightshift, even if I didn't want to watch. LOL!!!
I still remember a program on animal planet or NAT geo “Donnie the Doberman” . He would arrange his toys in patterns, maybe try different arrangements, obviously had meaning for him. I think he was showing his human what his life had been like before she adopted him from a shelter.
Pray for my dobermans recovery. She was in the hospital for 6 days and just just released. She is currently on medication due to kidney and liver failure. Apprantly she must have ate something. :(

@@Hammett175 we just came from a check up. Looks like her body is taking the meds well. Her kidney values are back to normal. However, her liver is healing. But very slowly. So they are going to continue her on liver support meds

I’ve owned “bully breeds” most my life. Dogs like Rotty’s, pit bulls, boxers & am-staffs. And now I have a female Dobie. The temperament of a dobie is SO DIFFERENT from bully breeds. My dobie is very “aloof” & ball-driven. We literally have to hide balls from her because she’s so obsessed. She has no desire to socialize with other dogs nor does she care to socialize with other people other than our immediate family. And to be honest, she’s mostly only wants to be around ME. More so than anyone else in my family. She’s VERY protective. Not aggressive, just very protective. It’s very different owning a dobie but I’m loving every moment of it. ✌🏾
In your experience which breed is better overall?
I have a rotterman, she is the same way. Completely ball crazy, little to no interest in socializing with other dogs or people, loves cats though. I once had a ball in the pocket of my jacket, no way she should have known that it was there, and sniffed it out no problem.
I thought am staffs and pit bulls were basically the same thing I didn't think pit bulls really existed. I thought they were always just a mix of staffs etc
@Jacob the Embalmer pit bull is an umbrella term but there is an American pit bull terrier (a younger now recognized dog breed.. they were called pits bc they putthem in pits lol there's more read up about it very cool

My lad is a lifesaver: as a type 1 diabetic he'll tell me my blood levels are dropping before I feel the early symptoms of a hypo! He's got the intelligence to get me to safety when I'm not able to look after myself!

@@Maybebabya All dogs can smell changes in the blood ( some humans can to a much smaller degree) but to know their human is in danger is a very special gift in deed

My doberman and I were in the waiting room at my vet's office. My dog was laying at my feet, with her arms crossed, looking at the lady across the room holding her Chihuahua on her lap. The lady eventually said, "Oh My God! Your dog's eyes are burning into my soul." She then stood up and left the office quite rattled.

I've had dobermans for 67 years, born into them. Never had a problem, but what makes them different is that they have an uncommon knowledge of language. I have been able to just talk to mine and they know exactly what I'm saying.

Yep agree i have a 6yr old very family friendly male dobe. He understands what I emote to him. I'm not sure if its language he knows commands and some words but I think it's more he reads my emotional feelings and his surroundings. Hes the best boy x so intuitive

I had Dobermans when I was a child. The first one was the best. We got her when I was 4 or 5 years old. I was the one who played with her and spent time with her, so she became firmly MY DOG. My mum had to secure her somewhere else every morning when I left for school or she would try to come with me. Where I went, she went and if I was sitting on the ground she would sit or lie next to me, just pressing into my side. I miss her.
Best dog ever!!! Rode shotgun with me everywhere and I was happy to have him along. Easily trained, loyal, and affectionate. Truth be told more worthy to hang with than most people. RIP Duke SEMPER FI.
A former friend of mine trained Dobermans in the U.S. Army. They were too smart to be used. They knew they were being sent out to die. They are capable of the reasoning of a nine year old child. Extremely smart dogs.
I had doberman non stop for the last 30 years (I currently have 5 of them in the house) and it is all true. At the office when someone ask me advice about dogs, like someone thinking of getting a dog for their family, I always tell them:" It is very simple...dogs can be divided in 2 categories....There are the Doberman...then there are the other dogs...." LOL

The Doberman is Weary of Strangers and Friendly to Friends...A great Quality in a Dog..
But at the same time, not overly aggressive. They are intelligent and highly trainable. They MUST be able to play, to run around all they wish, or they will feel like their in prison even in a large backyard. You have to walk them a lot and take them to dog parks, go hiking with them.
My not a Doberman (Chow Chow) is wary of strangers, tolerates acquaintances and is friendly to people he likes (when he's in the mood)...great qualities
My grandmother had a Doberman when I was a child. I loved that dog so much. We would play for hours. I’ve always been interested in owning one as an adult. I’m glad to be validated that the traits I fell in love with are part of the breed.
I like how you mentioned Dobermans always check in with their owners. I love that aspect of them. Jax would not only look for me, but would run to me and nose bump me. Always a nose bump.

I can actually relate!!! My Doberman saved me actually twice: We have to stairs. One to our garden and one to get from the first to the 2nd floor. As a child, I wanted to go those down on my own with my "running cage thingy". Both times "Naja" (Dob's Name) stood in front of me, so I couldn't get past her down those stairs, where I would have probably broken my Neck (Stone stairs). Sadly she passed away when I still wasn't even a Teenager to cancer :( Still have a picture of her in my room with a nice quote. Translated it would be: "You say, oh man, that it is a sin for my dog to be my most loved, yet my dog remains faithful to me in the storm, man not even when the wind blows." - Franz von Assisi
I lost my Anubis this year to old age. I love how right you were in this video, especially about the no personal space part. My Dobie was my shadow ever since he was a pup, and still feel that he is. Picking up on my emotions, he would know when I was having a hard time with my depression or had an emotional breakdown, and would practically lay on top of me until I felt better. He was very smart, he was excellent at searching out treats and toys I'd hide in random spots as a game. At night, I'd tell him "Perimeter Check", and he would go and scan room to room, front door and backdoor, before bedtime. He knew a few commands I'd say in German and Español, and when I'd say "Gentleman", that he'd need to gently take a treat from my hand. Eye contact, definitely felt like he was peering into my soul, but not intimidating to me, it was more loving. He was very protective of me and my son and daughter, and was very much like a pup until the end, he was 11 years old. Dobermans are something truly special, unlike any breed I've ever known. I would recommend this breed to everyone, great for families, or if you're solo...they will love, protect, and bond to you in a way that they are like your child.

So true, I had a Doberman as a kid and when I went to bed she would use her nose to get under the covers and then sleep at my feet.
But she was a great, tough watch dog. She would run with our horses and when the horse kicked her (in full stride) she yelped but got right back up and ran with the horses. No fear no matter how big the threat.
I love my Doberman Pincher.
Watching the bloopers at the end, just proves something I've heard and seen in person.. male Dobies, when they are relaxed and happy...are true goofballs.

I have posted before, Louie is a fawn Doberman, so he looks more like a body building Weimaraner with shorter ears. Scooby Doo on non-agressive goofy steroids. I wanted to add to the 6 points to help with the breed from what I have seen: 1) If you have things to do, never ignore him or her 100%. Stop, look them in the eye and give and speak true affection. Then, you can go about your business without them getting too anxious most of the time. That is their nature, they are not huskies. And, keep talking to and acknowledging them no matter what you are doing. 2) Sit in the middle of the couch, Lol. That gives plenty of room on both sides. They think they are lapdogs, literally. Louie thinks he is 25lbs but he weighs in at 100lbs. Do not get too angry, most of the mistakes he makes are related to him not realizing what his size can do. He will literally try and squeeze into 3 to 6 inches of couch beside me sticking his 3 foot wide butt right in my face. Why? It is the most snug and closest place he can get to me, so he goes for it even if there is 4 feet on the other side of us.. Beautiful best friends, but patience and understanding are needed to have one. And, he snores funny. 3) They can get really worked up in protection mode but it is not vicious. I didn't even need to teach him an alert command- I just say "what is it?" And he is instantly on alert, even though he snaps to attention on his own most of the time. The best way to calm him is to acknowledge his alert, praise him for it, then you can more easily settle him. Yelling at him to shut up does not work like with other breeds, it might even excite him more because he is trying to tell you something. It is the one job he is bred to have, he takes his work seriously and wants to be noticed for it. That is it. Rambled too long.

We had Dobermans for over 30 years here in Scotland, and you are spot on with your descriptions. DCM is a big problem here in Europe, and I lost two boys at seven years old 😢 I would love another one but couldn't deal with the heartache 💔 again.

My last of 4 dobermans died 5 years ago and I still miss him. My third doberman saved my baby when my husband accidentally let go and her stroller rolled down hill. Yuma ran in front and stopped it. When my late husband died my Dobie was my comfort and when I first met my current husband my Dobie jumped in between us the first visit, clearly marking his ownership!.they are unique

I just got a Dobie puppy last week. Hes absolutely blown my mind at how smart he is! 8 weeks old he sit the very first time I asked him to! Like he already knew it, same with shake. I asked the breeder if he had any training and she said none at all! Already house trained as well! He follows me everywhere. I was a little nervous getting one because I've always been into raising and rescuing pits. They're an amazing breed as well. But after just one week of getting my boy I'm extremely satisfied. Hes definitely a GOOD BOY!
Mine, (Zosha is her name) will be 5 this summer and I _do_ *not* envy anyone who has a doberman puppy. I love Zosha more than most anything, but good Lord, she was a *nightmare* as a puppy. It wasn't until about 2 where she pressed the "chill" button and it's been on since.

We adopted a 2 yr old male Doberdork in July 21 (our first Dobie). Our female pittie cross thinks it's necessary to take all toys away from him (he is so respectful of her). He was getting his human love and she butted in and of course he stepped away BUT he went and got a bone and dropped in on the floor and as soon as she heard the bone drop she immediately went to take it away leaving my side and he instantly returned for his human love. He figured her out haha.
I had a mutant 100 lb dobie, all muscle/no fat. He was super social, loved playing with kids and I would often see the mailman sitting on the step petting and talking to him when he was chained out front. Smartest dog I ever had, he spoiled me for all other dogs. It took many hours of training when he was young but it was well worth it.
Years ago my wife wanted a dog, anything with four feet snd s tail. We researched all the different breeds and decided on a female Doberman. My wife spent almost every afternoon at training classes, After a few months, our Dobie was trained in Shutzhund, tracking, total off-leash control, and more. Our dog, Lady, thought she was people, When she sat on a chair her butt was on the chair and her front legs were on the ground, very dignified. She was a joy to take on a trip, always knew what was needed of her all the time, and never gave any trouble like running off or unnecessary barking. She was the most intelligent dog I ever had, and I have had many dogs. At my age, I cannot properly deal with a Dobies needs, and I sure miss my Lady.
Our family had a Doberman, He was a great pet, Very friendly to everyone and other dogs (His best friends were the neighbors Dachshund and a poodle mix). He only disliked two people that I remember and both turned out to be con artists. Very smart dogs!

Derek just reminded me of my Dobe, Colt. If he wanted my chair he’d run over to a window or door and start barking. As soon as I got up to see what he was barking at, he’d steal my chair. It was kind of a game because I knew the difference between his barks and I could tell a serious one from the “I want your chair” one. Love Dobes so much!!🐾❤️🐾
John is just such a subject matter expert on this breed. And does an incredibly excellent job of communicating exactly why dobermans are such an incredible breed of dog. And once you get one of these superior canines, you will never go back to owning any other breed of dog. Great job john!
Another difference in Dobermans is that the males and females have completely different personalities. The males are generally more fun-loving, even goofy, and the females are more serious and alert.

That's true among 'the humans too.
My parents had a pair of German Dobes that were snake killing machines. Cayenne (she was Red n Tan) and Cody (Black n Tan male). Cody would run around the snake barking distracting it and Cayenne would wait to pounce on it at the right moment. As soon as the snakes head was turned Cayenne would grab it by the neck and chew its head off then the 2 would play tug of war with it and rip the snake apart. She was bitten by snakes so much Dr Tate (the vet here in Tennessee) would call my mom to have her bring Cayenne in to make the antidote from her blood every time another dog was snake bit.
So my female Dobie is male at heart? She's very goody and definitely not serious at all.
All of this is so true! I have a male American doberman. We take him to the dog park occasionally, and while he does wander off and play with other dogs, he comes back every 5 minutes or so to check on us. I call it his "drive - by". 😆. If my kids are wandering around the park, he will pick one of them and stick close by. Such great dogs!

I work at a daycare/boarding/training facility and my favorite to work with are the Doberman, by far! When they are not mastering new training moves, they are at my side or literally in between my legs, stepping as I step. They are the sweetest, goofy, angels. Thanks for the information, brother. By far my favorite breed. So much personality, but with a high level of self-discipline. Our family dobie was much loved by everyone in our circle, and many of them nearly shed a tear when they heard that he had died. He was playful and alert right up until the end of his life at 13.
I miss my Dobe so much. He lived a miraculous 13 years. Everything you went over here is exactly the traits of this breed ,to the T! Always aware, always there and totally in tune with your emotions and surroundings. Loyal is not a strong enough word. living alone and in the middle of the woods, he had a playground like few do but never strayed ,ignored or disobeyed, ever. Owning several breeds over the years Dobermans are without a doubt man's best friend. RIP Sams.

I love it.... all our boy cares about in the world, is understanding what exactly we want from him. He’s 15 weeks old now, and he’s just brilliant.
He was housebroken in less than 2 weeks! By 10 weeks old, he knew where to potty, and where not to potty..... amazingly intelligent.
Mine is 7 months now and was a dream to potty train,shes so neat and clean. except when it rains then shes a mud puppy...working on that LOL
Always thought these dogs are the perfect blend of dog. Smart, loyal, intelligent, ferocious, good looking, sweet, and goofy. I’m a Giant Schnauzer guy, but Dobies are great! One day I might just get one of my own.
I went to a large house to do some maintenance work, she had a Doberman and it’s bark from the other room sent shivers through my whole body, and I am a dog person who doesn’t usually get intimidated by them.
My dad had a doberman years ago and said that it was one of the best dogs he's had. He was a great guard dog. Years later his dogs grandson won a major dog show. It was so cool!
I've had two of them myself. What an amazing sense of situational awareness. Far better than mine. I always felt like I had a better set of extra eyes when they were around.

I owned a Doberman Rottweiler mix -- his name was Albert and he was a rescue that we adopted after our Rottweiler passed away. We weren't sure about him at first because of all the dogs for adoption, he was already 7 years old. However, there was just something about him that clicked with us -- and we took the risk.
BEST DECISION EVER.
He was the smartest dog we have ever owned. Sensitive and brave like a rott, but he had this really off the charts spatial and mathematical intelligence that was amazing. He was also silly, loving, tender hearted and very devoted to his two new cat siblings.
It always cracks me up that these dogs are portrayed as these blood thirsty monsters in film, when they're loving, devoted, BRILLIANT dogs. To hell and back reliability.
I love this breed. The only downside is they don't live forever. I think that's their only flaw.

I am a cat lover. I generally didnt like dogs... Until our company owner bought a dog and he's everywhere in the office and he interacts with me. His eyes stares curiously in everything we do, sometimes he leans on us. Sometimes he's playful and wanted to play chase with us....

I love both dogs and cats, but ive never owned a cat and we havent had a big dog since the old family one passed away over a decade ago. Sometime in the muddy future I plan to get a cat AND a doberman, doberman specifically because of its size and short coat, plus its just a big version of our current dog (min pin). Im hoping that loose plan will work because I have no idea how a doberman will get on with a cat lol.
My childhood dobie had a wicked sense of humor. She was playful and one time while my mom was taking a nap on the sofa, she walked past, looked at her for a moment and just licked her 🤣🤣 My mom woke up spluttering but laughing at the same time

Mousey, was my first dog when I was 3 we got him. My mom let me walk him as we grew up together. She was not afraid of leaving me alone with him. She knew he would not hurt me or let anything happen to me. I miss him so much to this day. I'm 53 now. He was super sweet, protective and smart.

I've had 5 Doberman's and Ive had nothing but great experiences with the breed. So many great stories I could tell that are amazing...2 male and 3 females over a 20 yr period.
Dobermans are very alert dogs. It's like they have an extra level of sensitivity. They are also gentle and loving.
Had one that imitated me when I growled. Brought me his leash to go out. Waited for traffic to stop before crossing. Very smart.

One thing I have found and books confirm is that they are a natural for perimeter protection. Our Dobie watchdog Penny was great with people all day long, but when it was time to close up she went on the clock.
When she saw it was closing time she would go to all four sides of the fence and bark as she went around. She just wanted people to know that she was coming on duty. She was great.
I had a mutt years ago that was like that. She would periodically walk the perimeter of the house, look out every window, sniff, and when she was satisfied that everything was ok, she’d come back and sit on the couch with me. She was always on duty. I loved her severely!
Live on 10 fenced acres. 3 landscaped. The rest, typical PNW rain forest.
By the time my Dobie was a year old, he'd worn a path around the fence-line.

My cousin had a very lovable Doberman. It was very tall. It would come over to your car door, and he would be at eye level on all fours. I've never seen a dog cover ground so fast. Beautiful too. And very laid back. The eye contact thing is very on point. So intelligent.

I had my first Dobie he lived 10 years. He was running and playing then just stopped laid down and died last year. Our family has not gotten over him. He is and will be forever in our hearts and a part of this family. I cannot get another dog there will never be another, or another dobie. My heart can’t handle it. Best dog ever.

Great video. I’ve had GSDs for 50 years but I’ve always loved & respected Dobbies. Both breeds share a lot of the same characteristics. Beautiful breed that demands respect.

Absolutely agree on all points. We've had Dobies for about 15 years. Incredible pets, protectors, and friends. They are funny, goofy, and highly inquisitive. Incredibly loving and loyal. They're very strong mentally and physically and you need to keep their energy burned off daily. They need a lot of attention and they're demanding. They can get brain lock while on walks but all easy to train out. Best.Dog.Ever.
The personal space and shadow is number 1#!!! We always say we bought our king size bed for our Doberman. I have 2 other dogs, a pitbul and American bull dog. If either of them are laying beside me, my doberman will grab toys to get the other dogs distracted then race into the spot beside me where the others were! SOOOO damn loyal and smart! Don't wanna say I have a favorite out of my 3 but...... 😉
The part about them being very attentive and protective is sooooo true. I have a Dobie and she barks off the handle the moment someone steps food on my driveway.

I’ve had various dogs throughout my life, but our Dobie really was different. Our red, Euro Dobie was a human in a fur coat. The care and concern he had for me, his communication with me, the strong connection we had… it was was like no other dog. They really do stare into your eyes like a human being with a strong desire to understand and be understood. Miss that handsome boy with all my heart. -Mona

My daughter and I laughed out loud multiple times at this video because EVERYTHING was 100% accurate down to the car analogy. We always call Dobermans the Ferrari of the dog world! Will watch again and laugh some more. Moses tricks me out of my chair ALL the time using one ruse or another.

My favorite part is when you talk about being afraid over a scary movie. Now, I haven't had the luxury most of my adult life of living in nice neighborhoods. Even though I've always wanted a doberman for many other reasons, as I got older and moved out of my parents nice house, having a dog to protect me was another reason I wanted a dobe. So yes, sometimes I am afraid of shady people in my neighborhood. Sometimes I walk my dobie without locking the door, and I'm 0% afraid that someone is in my house. This is because my dobe INSTANTLY knows if anyone else has been in there. This was proven to me once when my apartment maintenance person came to fix my toilet while me and my dobe we're out hiking. We came back and he started searching the entire place frantically, couldn't focus on anything else, growling at anything he smelled- mostly in the bathroom. I then noticed the maintenance request form on my kitchen counter. They came and fixed my toilet and without any prompting, my doberman was looking for this strange person who came into our space. Now I've actually taught him to search if I ever feel paranoid and there's no doubt in my mind that anyone could ever break into my house without him knowing and warning me. That in conjunction with his size and intimidating looks/ferocious bark, nobody outside the house ever messes with either of us, despite him actually being one of the sweetest and friendliest dogs I've ever met (to people who don't pose a threat, he does have great instincts as to who is a threat and who is not, if you are not threatening he's more like a lab than a dobe lol). I must say, it is a very peaceful life knowing I'm always safe and my dog isn't aggressive either. I trust him not only with my life 100% but also that I can bring him anywhere around anyone and he wont cause any problems. 🖤🤎
My doberman has taught himself how to open the back screen door, and now let's himself in and out whenever he wants, don't know if that's a good thing, smartest dog I have owned, affectionate and protective even with my close friends.

One of the books had the character,
Captain Doberman.
My daughter's (being very young) called him
Dobercapterman.
I always smiled about that 😂
The Doberman is so intelligent that they can actually play Chess in regards to reading your every thought and move and be there waiting when you least expect it! They truly do attach themselves to you like Family!

Oh man. I always loved Dobies but after watching this, I'm even more in love with them! I heard they were the smartest dogs, but the loyalty and energy connection is so cool. Especially the eye contact which is just so neat.

He has grown up so big..almost looks like Cooper..proud dog I am sure..he is finally filling those paws that Cooper left.

Spot on with this. Lost my Dobie a year ago and it hit me harder than the loss of any other dog I've had. You really get attached to them do to their loyalty. You can't go wrong with them.
Very helpful. I'm fostering a dobie/lab mix and the doberman traits are definitely dominant. She is my first of the breed (pitties are much more common for long term foster) and I'm having to engage with her very differently than other breeds. This poor girl was definitely abused given by how much she pancakes at almost everything, but I catch her watching my every movement and she is learning our schedule and walk route very quickly.
