I know you don't like to take chances but here are some worth taking a chance on. Minding the Gap is a coming of age story / documentary about skateboarding. Barry Lyndon is a must-see Stanley Kubrick film. Amores Perros is worth the blind buy and better to go into without any knowledge. Don't judge it by its cover
Hollywood Shuffle is a great watch! You can definitely see the seeds of the TV show In Living Color being planted while watching it. A forgotten favorite of mine. I'm off to Barnes and Noble to pick it up now!
Before there was Birdman and 1917, it was a big deal to have a long uncut tracking shot in a film. The Player is known to have one of the longer tracking shots at the beginning of the film. Imagine how many takes it would be if everyone involved made just one mistake
I am soooooo happy that you made this video.... and at a different Barnes & Noble location!!! TONI ?!?!?! (at 3:58) lol ...Toe-Knee... I love to see a VAST selection of Criterion Collections DVDs, Blu-Rays, and 4Ks. And, YES, I find your video ENTERTAINING!!!! SO MANY OPTIONS!!!!! A LOT OF VARIETY!!!! And I plan to see In A Lonely Place, per your recommendation! THANKS SUE!!!!! Happy Saturday!!! Am I hearing someone backing up,,,, around the 15th minute mark.....
I picked up six films, too! I got Jabberwocky, Time Bandits, Baron Munchausen, The Devil's Backbone, Pans Labyrinth, and Silence of the Lambs. It was such a good sale and I'm glad I got to pick these up.
@@slate49 For sure! Terry Gilliam has always been one of my favorite directors. I'm currently rewatching Time Bandits, and it's just as fantastic and funny as I remember.
It is necessary to do research before buying. Normally, I collect titles by director, rather than looking at its title. It doesnʼt make sense to browse Criterion artwork because the Criterion artwork is usually not even representative of the movie. The artwork tends to have its own modern avant garde design concept.
The Player is a good one. I hope the rest work out for you. You browsed the "All About My Mother" film, which is a great watch. It won best foreign language film in 1999, and it really showcases how good criterion can be at putting you in touch with an off-the-radar film.
Due to my local Barnes having NO movies, I had to shop online. I ended up picking up Deep Cover, Silence of the Lambs, and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. These were all upgrades from DVDs I own. I always appreciate the heads-up on sales!
Nice Haul And Criterion Video Susan The Furies Is A Good Criterion Barbara Stanwyck Character In The Movie Will Give You Mix Emotions Of Should I Like Her Or Not. I Got A Pretty Good Criterion Haul Myself So Far Picked Up 7 Criterion Here's What I Got 1. The Spy Who Came In From The Cold 2. They Live By Night 3. Ministry Of Fear 4. The Breaking Point 5. History Is Made At Night 6. I Married A Witch 7. Young Mr Lincoln
Great video as always! I went a little bit further this sale I usually only get one but so far I have gotten Romeo and Juliet, The Brood, Moonrise Kingdom, The Uninvited and Antichrist hoping to get more soon!
You have GOT to pick up ‘Detour’! One of the best noir flicks out there if you ask me. It’s not a long movie but feels complete in its storytelling I didn’t care for Blowout first watch. But on a 2nd viewing, I enjoyed it much better. A lot of movies I didn’t really like on a first watch, on a 2nd watch-I liked.
Defending Your Life, yes. I saw that in the theater when it came out and it was great. I need to pick that up. If you like the movie then I’d also recommend Lost In America also in Criterion collection. I love Albert Brooks, he’s simply a comedic genius. My favorite is Modern Romance(not in Criterion but on the Indicator label) followed by Lost In America and Defending Your Life. Wings of Desire and The Player are winners. I think if you didn’t like The Graduate the first time then you ain’t gonna like it this time as well. I find the movie very dated. Nice haul Sue!
How do you feel about French films? I highly recommend The 400 Blows, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, and Belle de Jour. If you don't mind older and subtitled movies. I'm waiting until One False Move comes out. I'll pick up the 4K of that title and possibly Targets, which I heard is a really good movie. Anyway, those are great Criterion titles that you picked up. Love & Basketball is a wonderful film. Hope to see you pick up more!
I loved this video and I loved how in depth it was !!! I feel like I was shopping with you, which was nice because I dont have a barnes and noble near me. Definitely gunna have to pick up some of these titles (online) that I didnt know about !!! Another great vid ❤
I do have The Graduate. Although it's from another generation , it's not too artsy a film, quite contemporary especially with the music and all. Very watchable in comparison to many other Criterion selections which can be slow and sometimes too serious. Good pick ups Sue!
There were so many movies and most of them I’ve never heard before but now I’m interested in looking them up. I enjoyed this video and it was just nice and relaxing to watch!!!
Carnival Of Souls is a horror movie with a vibe similar to Night Of The Living Dead. Haxan!?! I've always wanted to see that silent Swedish horror movie. Sisters is a Brian De Palma movie. Sis you left a lot of good ones behind. Good hunting and cool video Sue!👉😃👈
Defending your life is a really good movie. So far I picked up Seventh Seal. Heard it was good and it looks interesting. Might get a few more that looked interesting in your video. Thanks
"Breaking the Waves" is a unique love story about loving God and loving others maybe almost to a fault. Emily Watson gives a breathtaking performance. Sue if you haven't seen you must! In addition you must own it! "Eve's Bayou" is an outstanding film as well. I've only watched it once since I was a teenager. Yet I remember the impression it made.
The genre with the fewest Criterion titles is silent film, because Kino Lorber has the rights for most silents. If I see a silent film in Criterion, I automatically pick it up. Sadly, one the greatest silents ever (and films in general), Pandora's Box (1928), used to be on Criterion but has gone out of print.
As soon as I posted the above, Criterion announced two upcoming silent films. On Oct-17-2023, "The Mystic" (1925) and "The Unknown" (1927) will come out on Blu-ray, as part of a set called "Tod Browning's Sideshow Shockers." The set will also include the sound film "Freaks" (1932), which is much better known, and is probably the reason most people will buy the set.
The Asphalt Jungle is an excellent movie. Daddy Long Legs, I believe is a Fred Astaire musical. Destry Rides Again, a very good western with James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich.
Can criterions be played on a regular blue ray player or xbox 1. I know the 4k cant but if it says blue ray on it can you. Like that dazed and confused criterion one. Is that blue ray. Good haul.
You Crack me up Susan you completely destroyed the first section I think they had to hire someone to go through after you left to put the movies back in place.
The Player, Defending Your Life and Love & Basketball are all good. Hope you enjoy. Went once in store and got 5 (Inland Empire, Targets, Fisher King 4K, Thelma & Louise 4K, The Daytrippers - I recommend if fan of Parker Posey!). My store has small selection so then did online buy and got 7 (Blow Out 4K, Thief, Frances Ha, Personal Shopper, The Rose, Safe, Tiny Furniture). I've been planning and had substantial gift card so not too hard on the wallet. I preordered After Hours and One False Move as well.
Minding the Gap is an INCREDIBLE documentary!
Barry Lyndon and Battle of Algiers are fantastic films.
Picked up four Criterions this week, have four left out of book that I'm collecting for. Then I will build my personal favorites out of their catalog.
I would definitely recommend smooth talk, there’s so much suspense towards the end of the movie and the soundtrack is brilliant.
"Tampopo" is a delightful Japanese comedy. "A Face in the Crowd" CRUSHES "Network"; stars Patricia Neal and Andy Griffith.
Hollywood Shuffle is a great watch! You can definitely see the seeds of the TV show In Living Color being planted while watching it. A forgotten favorite of mine. I'm off to Barnes and Noble to pick it up now!

The Player is one of my top five movies of all time. So funny, dark and witty. A tremendous achievement

Great choices! Especially Hollywood Shuffle, .love that movie
I’m a horror movie collector so I would’ve picked up Eraserhead and Carnival of Souls
I picked up Carnival of Souls! Underrated horror classic
Carnival of Souls is amazing. I picked up Eraserhead (never seen) and Branded to Kill yesterday
My Barnes & Noble went out of business. Closest one is 3 hours away.
Online it is!!!
All that heaven allows is my 98 year old moms favorite. I bought that for her years ago and had to order on line. It may even have been a VHS.
I picked up six films, too! I got Jabberwocky, Time Bandits, Baron Munchausen, The Devil's Backbone, Pans Labyrinth, and Silence of the Lambs. It was such a good sale and I'm glad I got to pick these up.
I’ve got your taste in films as well. Whimsical and off beat storytelling. My fav kind of films!
@@slate49 For sure! Terry Gilliam has always been one of my favorite directors. I'm currently rewatching Time Bandits, and it's just as fantastic and funny as I remember.
@@Dmfriend26 I bought the 4k of Time Bandits last week. I haven’t watched the transfer yet but Gilliam is one tier to me. Love his films
Love & Basketball is one of my all time faves. Nice pickups!

I have my Criterion titles in a Letterboxed list. I use the app while I am shopping for DVDs.
I love your organization!
You can never go overboard when it comes to the Criterion sale.
Lol this is true!
I will be picking up Mississippi Massala. One of my favorite movies. Underrated Denzel Washington movie. Great Video ! 👍

You passed up Carnival of Souls Sue! That is a MUST BUY!!!
I actually already have it in my collection.
Fun ! Good selection ❤
Thanks Ma!
I see you went right past Ghost Dog: The Way of The Samurai. If you ever have room in your budget give that one a try. Very interesting movie.
Thanks for the info!

Nice haul. I love Defending Your Life it's a great movie.
Excellent! Thanks for watching!
Minding the Gap is amazing and emotional
You're over there flipping past some of the greatest movies ever made. Don't be scared of foreign films. There is a world of cinema that is amazing.
First of all, I'm not "scared" of picking up a movie, but im also not going to gamble on something I'm totally unfamiliar with.
Great picks, Susan. Can’t wait to see them on What I Watched. Hope you can finally enjoy The Graduate!
I hope so too!
@@MoviesSue watching New Release Review right now!
It also seems like Amazon is having its own Criterion 50% off sale!
Yes Criterions are also half price on Amazon during the sale.
I just ordered Ghost world & Age of Innocence not in my store had to order online. Both are upgrade from my dvds
I remember watching AAOL when I was little on television and The Philadelphia Story is great
Cooley High is a 1975 American coming-of-age, remember watching this when was young. I think it was a good movie.

The Player rules. Great pick!
Love & basketball, just watched it with my daughter a few weeks ago: A+

Yes Criterions play on a regular blu-ray player. I have no idea about gaming systems.
@@MoviesSue thank you
I am surprised that Quentin Tarantino movies are not part of the Criterion collection especially Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill
Hope you get what your looking for
Picks up the greatest Criterion movies ever, “never heard of that one.” Repeat.
So what? What's your point?
Good hunt👍
You Crack me up Susan you completely destroyed the first section I think they had to hire someone to go through after you left to put the movies back in place.
You think I didn't fix it before I left?
I know you did I was just teasing you.
Was that Ken on the front of Ghost World lol ❤
Lol no
How come are Criteron titles are more expensive than other titles
There's more quality put into Criterion movies. Usually tons of bonus features.
Time Bandits suck
