    I remember Uriah’s interview with the Schmo before his fight with Andre Muniz where he was talking about being in the title picture after this win and how styles make fights. At the time I just chalked it up to fighter talk, but this video puts that interview in a different perspective to me. It felt like Uriah was trying to convince himself he was a high caliber fighter rather than us. Uriah has produced so many memorable moments in this sport, it’s really unfortunate he could never develop his mentality in line with his skills.

    Hall didn't have much gas tank, he seemed to "quit" sometimes especially the last few years...and he zones out ! You can see it on the stool between rounds, nonechalant, unresponsive, unfocused, kinda not motivated, then he never worked on his wrestling, or wrestling defense at least !!! In any case it never evolved for some reason, guys just knew to take him down, hold him down and grind a finish or a decision... Still one entertaining fighter we had the privilege to watch

    There's also the fact that he isn't very young but most MMA strikers not in the heavyweight division that achieve a consistent level of success are either very proficient counter strikers or if they do lean more heavy on proactive offense like Hall have a complimentary wrestling pedigree to accompany it so they aren't as susceptible to takedowns and can mix up on offense.

  • @Reyma777
    @Reyma777 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Hall could have been a title challenger [or maybe even a champ] if he could consistently pull the trigger. In some of his fights, Hall was very clearly losing until he basically decided to KO his opponents. I’m pretty confident had Hall beat Strickland, we would have gotten Adsenya vs Hall title fight. I wouldn’t have favoured Hall over Adsenya, but earning a title is accolade in itself. Hall while not the most consistent fighter, had a good career in my opinion.

    To me he had the ability to be a great fighter with a mindset to match. the Rub is that fighting only goes down with one opponent at a time meaning you don't have to be the most rounded fighter in order to implement a sound strategy. BUT in Order to Advance in the UFC you have to make a show of it! The ability to be callous enough about a sport that's been so good to/for him yet at the same time incentivizes taking that good fortune away from the opponents by Doing them "Serious" Damage. It creates a unique space for sum1 like Hall who for all intents and purposes is too good at that objective. It doesn't leave much room for grace/mercy which robs him of being a good person. its the difference between you losing a match but its also the threat of losing/taking someones life/livelihood and thats normal looking at a lawyer movie...should be applicable here too. They didn't/couldnt pay him enough to fight as if he was gonna take people out the game (possibly permanently) so they benched him like major music labels did the Clipse or Lupe's albums. If you won't play ball like we want then you won't at all until your contract is up and your old(er). He's still relatively young and healthy so All the highest Hopes for the "Reluctant Reaper"! P.S. I watched that Ultimate fighter eps. and it was a 'Perfect" Kick. It was So good Everybody shut because they were in Awe!

    I’m not gonna lie , I understand the gun shyness, to a degree. I used to train a lot when I was younger and had a few fights, it was amateurs so it was kinda like, in any given fight the skill gap between opponents can be massive , but technically they’re both ‘amateurs’ so they have to compete, even though 1 guy has 6 years of training and the other guy has 6 months.. so yeah lots of time which I was fighting someone who had absolutely no reason to be in that ring, and bc of that I’d hold back A LOT. almost to a detriment. But when even I fought someone on the same level, it was a great fight.

Izzy will never see that MW belt again once they get to the top which is gonna be real soon. If hes lucky the UFC will let him fight the winner of Jiri/Poatan but after losing to Sean I doubt it but we'll see. Not saying youre wrong because he did live up to the hype but those days are nearly over. Of course he could be like McNuggets and just take big money fights occassionaly but his championship era isnt fading but I hope he gets one last shot at the LHW belt. In a word ... grappling. Far too many of these strikers think that they can ignore wrestling and B.J.J. and win and the reality is that without being able to take a man down effectively or defend against the same you will lose too many fights and not even crack the top 5 of any of the UFC weight classes. Even taking his "mental game" into consideration, had he been a good grappler then he would have survived even thrived taking guys down and simply sitting on them for wins.

    I think him almost killing people especially with that spinning back kick, you can see it in his eyes, it hurt him, as much as the guy snoring and having the sound of death.

    Because he was, and is, too nice a guy for the Octagon.
    He was always really upset when he thought he had seriously injured someone.
    You have to have a genuine killer's instinct to be a professional fighter, amd Uriah didn't have that.

    Who cares about being the best fighter in the world if you gotta kill your heart to do it? The novelty of fame and glory fade quickly but the memories of the people you hurt don't. I think Mr. Hall is a better human for seeing what becoming the best would mean and turning away. It takes real strength to listen to your heart instead of caving to all the external pressure telling you to be the greatest and whatnot.

    Uriah came into the game later in life. Had he gotten his debut in his 20s he'd have had a longer time to reign..he got some good pay outs. Close to $300000 for winning Anderson Silva.

    I think that kid would was bullied is still there. He learned marital arts for the love and self defense. I don't think he did it for the sport of combat. I'm sure he enjoy some of it but he has the heart of a destroyer. He has the skill has one. I bet he will be a great teacher and he should look into movies. He can probably do some fight scenes

    I was hyped for Uriah Hall even before he was on UFC, he was so skilled and agile.. When he came to UFC, i thought he gotta be a champion one day, but after seeing his face when he knocked out his opponent, i genuinely doubt he has the heart..

    Uriah is a talented fighter but in my opinion his big wins were more flukey and he kinda lived off his career of being explosive in the tuf house. Credit to him, but he’s not a technical fighter and is pretty one dimensional, probably on the same level as a juaquin Buckley. Which isn’t that bad honestly, but I don’t think it spells good things for his upcoming boxing fight.
