    Thanks for sharing. Again another nostalgic muse on distant holiday fun for me! 1979 I think the 1st time with nearly every year coming back to Lee cliff caravan park until I was 16! Marvelous!

    Hallelujah, you finally got there....hasn't changed too much, in early 80s to the left after the railway tunnel were many wooden shacks selling usual seaside stuff...great to see thanks Bill.

      I also remember the huts in the 80s. We spent our honeymoon in Dawlish Warren in 1981. They sold what my husband charmingly describes as tourist tat 😂.

      Warren afficiando here, I remember the shacks in the Warren in the late 1980s. We used to buy plastic boats and balls to play with on the beach.
      I also remember the Copper Mine Amusements, the Hillbilly Moonshine, and the humming of the go carts.
      The background of my phone is of myself, my little sister, and my grandad eating ice cream sandwiches outside of our caravan on the Holimarine site in 1988.
      There used to be a motorised boating lake at the area beyond the black fence 5:48. As you can see that is no longer there.

      @@janicemiles4638 I would call it something stronger than that...always had great holidays there, did Hazlemere, Peppermint & Dawlish Sands and later Cofton near Starcross Ferry.

    I was there today with my dog. It's changed soooo much since the 70's and 80's. We had a beach hut there when they were over the back on what is now conservation land. Had a railway carriage in Eastdon which is a 5 minute walk from the Warren towards Cockwood, Back in the day there were trampolines,bumping cars,mini railway,mini golf,fruit machines where now there is the open space along 'the main drag' The shops were lined all along it as well selling the usual stuff and it was absolutely packed out with people. The Copper Mine arcade was just before the bridge.That bridge needed redesigning slightly as fire engines couldnt get underneath it. The footpath under the bridge used to be on the other side too. At the end of the main drag was Harrison's Amusements where The Boat House is now (as you said) and also a bingo parlour that was popular. A guy called Pete used to be the bingo caller and i thought he was pretty cool as he sat there smoking his fag calling out the numbers. The go carts have been there since day 1.
    Just the best of days it was when i was a kid :)

    We loved Dawlish Warren. We stayed in the Langstone Cliff hotel from 2008 to 2020 would go with my parents.Sadly my mum died in 2017.My dad and I would stay from 2018 until 2020.We wrre going again in 2021 but I broke my spine which made me disabled.
    You should have had an afternoon tea at Langstone Cliff hotel, they are truly georgeous and open to non residents.

    Thanks for this Bill. I live in the South West now and its suprising how many people here don’t know about Dawlish or Teignmouth for that matter. Dawlish was the place where we went on holiday during the 1960’s and 70’s. Its a bit spoilt now especially the sea front but I still like it. I was there last Sunday.

      Yes James, Dawlish & Dawlish Warren are nice places for sure. I agree with the 'improvements' they made, not being quite as nice as it was before, but thankfully they have left Teignmouth alone... So far 🤣 Thanks for joining me on my walks 👍

    Fantastic video Bill, it brought back many happy memories of holidays with my mum and dad back in the 70s. Always wanted to go on the go-karts but somehow never did. The Mount Pleasant used to have a great family room as I remember it, but it's gone now and been incorporated in the main pub. The upside is now the great picture window with a fabulous view of Exmouth and beyond. Thanks Bill.

I remember climbing Red Rock with my parents back in the 70's before children were wrapped in cotton wool and the only safety equipment was my Mum telling us not to go near the edge 😂. Hi Bill thanks for the tour of dawlish warren, the rock Is Red Rock and were the shop is used to be wooden beach huts various trades selling clothing gifts beach gear even a stall selling seafood, and on the grass area there used to be a railway what you have rides on, and a one time there was a small car park near to rail way bridge and a large wooden building which sold refreshments, things have change some what, there is a bit of history, i think you will remember being of my age,😏

    • @BillsPhoneTeignmouth
      @BillsPhoneTeignmouth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info! Like I said, I'm not really that well up on the Warren, having only visited a minimal amount of times - I wanted to call it 'Red Rock' as well, as that was what was in my mind, but if you go to any maps, it comes up as Langstone rocks - Which ties in with the Langstone Cliff Hotel nearby. I guess its a bit like the Parson & the Clerk - Technically, 'Our' clerk - From Teignmouth, is really 'Shag Rock' - But it will always be the Clerk to us :)
