One reason I never bought from card shows or individuals. I had over 30k cards at one time.
This is a shame, this damages the credibility of honest card shops.

One good thing about being in the hobbies so long and loving the vintage sports cards you become very good at identifying vintage cards. And I've been in the hobby for almost 45 years and I can instantly look at a vintage card and tell you if it's real or not and I'm sure there's other collectors out there too that can do the same I like to use the smell test LOL. And there's nothing special about faking packs anyone in their mother could do that lol

You have to look at the coloring, you need to inspect it with a jewlers loupe 30x to 60x magnification, and you need to precisely measure, even if it's slabbed - if it's even 1mm off it's altered ir not real

People alter real cards all the time to make the edges sharper or get the corners better.
