    A lot of current collectors don't know this, but the binder sleeves they sold us back in the late 70's/early 80's left a sheen on the cards if they were in the plastic sleeves too long. When I pulled my cards from that era out of storage around 2003 or so, several cards looked like they were shining, including a 1969 Mantle.
    Years later, I bought a T206 McGraw Portrait from the binder of an older dealer at the Philly show in 2020, and subbed it to SGC. SGC didn't say it was fake, but they also wouldn't grade it and refunded me the grading fee. This year, 3 years free from the sheen of the binder sleeve, the card no longer had that shine and was subbed to CSG and graded this time.
    I think maybe those T206 cards should have received a second look from an experienced expert. There are issues like the brownish color of the name and team, and the dots in the printing that were not discussed on this episode that would have provided a more complete analysis of the authenticity of those cards.

    A couple of observations. You should be using a loupe to look at t-206's when in doubt. Smell isn't a 100% tell all on card age. Vintage cards in the east/south smell different than West Coast because of the humidity. There are 1000's of vintage cards that were in ice bricks including the SGC 9.5 1952 Mantle that grade fine. Lastly, the paper stock on 68 Topps is different than the 78 topps. Best way is to get digital calipers. Without seeing the rest of the cards, offer looks super low ball, but $3500 no way. I'd make profit on $1500 all day.

    Yo guys. Its critical to have a jewelers loop, mini microscope, flash light and other important tools before you set out on these collection visits. Come on! 😄 Not a bad episode though. The cards that had been sitting in the view presses will still sell to raw card collectors just fine especially if they look good. As long as descriptions in listings are honest and state defects. Eye appeal is a magical thing especially with the ultra vintage. I've seen some worn torn cards sell for big money that left me scratching my head.

I always watching these negotiations from a buyer and seller side of things bc obviously you guys are both. I guess what I’m always curious about is what is the number you guys are willing to buy and what kinda margins are looking to achieve. I have a lot of football cards right now, 1800 cards or so and I’ve done the work and research to know it had a $1300 eBay sold for value on the low end and with a lot of those cards are free. I had a dealer offer me $200 for the entire lot and I was geez dude you need to make $1100 profit on my cards in order to buy??? I understand it takes time to list on eBay or hold cards that maybe don’t sell right away, but that’s every dealer. Hell some cards sit in peoples showcases at shows for years, I’ve seen it. Just curious from potential buyers out there, what % do you normally offer to sellers in order for the juice to be worth the squeeze

    • @claywinn32
      @claywinn32 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a shop and really depending on what cards are in the collection,are they gonna be fast moving,desirable cards or more long tail,but just off your numbers of 1800 cards with a potential value of $1300,which sounds like a lot of low end cards,being less than a $1 each average,I'd be around $500-600,once again depends on the players in there, fast sellers vs. slow sellers. If it's just a handful of cards, say 5-10 cards I will pay higher than 45-50%, say around 60-70%. Collections take longer to process and go through so the margins have to be better.
