    Tethering is really key to a shoot like this. So many people disregard it, but it really helps to motivate the athletes when they're trying to phone in the action.

    • @QuantzPhoto

    Are the large silver umbrellas for filling in the sides to get the uniforms evenly lit all around and not for the highlight that comes from the back?
    I usually see just two umbrellas or two soft boxes placed to the sides and behind to get the rim light from the back and not paired with two extra strobes.

  • @keithclasgens3641

    Do you use a light meter to set your lights or do you do it my look and taste?

    • @QuantzPhoto
      @QuantzPhoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey David, while I have great respect for light meters I haven't used one since the early days of digital. Now that I've been doing this for so long I can almost set my lights, distance, modifiers, power, f/stop, iso, and be pretty darn close right out of the gate - but a laptop or iMac doesn't hurt to confirm!

  • @SHOOTITFilmPhotography
    @SHOOTITFilmPhotography 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This gotta be one of the most impressive light setups I've ever seen. Seven(!) flashes? All Profoto nonetheless, haha... But the thorough work with this light setup also reflects in the result. Nothing but world class quality here, with everything from lighting to shooting and retouching style. Impressive, love it! Gotta be nice to see the result on the big screen as well :) Just subbed, looking forward to a breakdown of the custom backdrop.
    Some questions: How do you focus when you take these shots with the players running? SERVO AF and shooting quick bursts or do you set it to a fixed point and time it when the player passes that point? Lens and focal lenghts?

    • @QuantzPhoto
      @QuantzPhoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Markus, great questions as it has changed with technology advancements. Up until the D850 I would have to focus at a fixed point because the AF was too slow. The D850 allows me to continuous(servo) focus on the player through the set. I've just started using the Canon R5 and happy to report it is faster focusing than the D850 - video coming this week! As far as lens I'm using a 24-70mm and use pretty much the entire range of that lens through a shoot. Thanks for subbing and the backdrop video is already out, fyi!

    • @SHOOTITFilmPhotography
      @SHOOTITFilmPhotography 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@QuantzPhoto Great, I'll check it out! I made a video recently about using the R5 for shooting moving race cars. While doing the fast pans that are required for that type of photography I felt that the EVF could not really keep up. At least not at that exact moment when the car is passing. It gets all choppy and jerky. But I guess it's all about HOW fast an object is moving when using servo af. I can image that for shoots like this it would do just fine with the servo af. It does a really good job of following an object it has locked on to. And also, on shoots like this you won't be shooting 20-25 frames in a row with 12fps, which is the case with shooting race cars.

    • @QuantzPhoto
      @QuantzPhoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SHOOTITFilmPhotography Yes, totally agree andI did notice the slightest of lag while shooting the action portion of my shoot. I would describe it as "different" than using a DLSR like I'm accustomed to but it wasn't preventing me from getting the shots. I'll def discuss it further in my video.
