Hi Andy. I want to build the Lazair on floats. Could you give me a piece of advice how to obtain complete blueprints of the Lazair ultralight? Thanks beforehand.🙂
As far as I know Dale Kramer would be the person to talk to about drawings. He is the designer. Best would be to find an existing one and buy it. They come up for sale from time to time. We had so much fun on floats with Lazairs. And skis.
I believe there were perhaps 1200 or so kits produced. Keep an eye out on eBay or aviation related classifieds and you’ll see one pop up from time to time. No plans were ever produced as far as I know.
@@alanmydland5210 you can see and hear the left engine start when he pulls the rope starter. He then reaches to the right and starts the engine you can see. Once both are running you can hear the distinct phasing as each engine runs out of synch with the other. Also, if there was only one engine it would be in the center directly in front of the pilot. The engine you can see is clearly to his right side. It was the camera angle that caused any confusion.
They were the same props as used on the original Pioneer powered Lazair 1’s. When they went to the Rotax engines and doubling the horsepower they stacked 2 props together. Works quite well but not as efficient as a single larger dia prop.
They are aluminum, with foam ribs bonded and riveted together. The covering is Tedlar which is a semi transparent plastic UV resistant film. The covering on this Lazair is more than 30 yrs old.
Very nice touch’ngoes but I really think you are pushing your luck flying at low level with bare legs, arms and hands and no visor? One “wasp strike” would spoil your day! Believe me I can vouch for that!!!
Its a tail dragger. All tail draggers are designed to do that. Some of the greatest designs ever to fly are tail draggers. Some of them are on display at the Air and Space Smithsonian in Washington. Lazair is on display there among them.
@@andyweiher4303 more like a confused tail dragger hah I don’t have issues with tail draggers in fact that’s all I fly, the problem I have is the stabilizer is making ground contact- the most crucial part of the plane is always ok the ground absorbing whatever surface your taxing up to take off
Brings back memories from 1984, except the one I flew was on skis and I didn’t fly with shorts. Such a well engineered aircraft
It been 8 YEARS but this is really incredible. I hope you still have passion for this.
I sooooo want one of them " I've always loved the design" where can I get one from?
Sa me rappelle de bons souvenir j’en avait une pareille
I had one 40 years ago. Just bought anothet one last month 😊
Just got a Lazair, can’t wait to get up in the air
Congratulations on the your new Lazair!!
Let us know how it goes

Sir what is the horse power engine you used in this plane and what is the total weight of this plane and how many inches of propeller you used
Sooo, what are the engines and whats your burn rate/cruise speed?
Hello .. nice video .. you would not happen to have a set of plans and a construction manual would you .. or where I may get them? … Safe flying.

No plans. Just a couple examples floating around the US and Canada.
This just makes me miss my Lazair even more. Get some spinners on those props and re-shrink those loose panels. :]
What are the spinners for?
@@lakerdrinker they just dress up the propellers and look amazing.
What are the control surfaces on a Lazair? Are there ailerons or is it just the tail?
Lazair has convention controls, ailerons for roll and ruddervators for yaw and pitch - similar tail to something like a Beechcraft Bonanza V-tail.
@@andyweiher4303 Thank you for your reply. I knew about the tail. I never knew it had ailerons. Cool. I loved to watch them fly at El Mirage, CA.

I really liked it when it had two engines, but this is cool
It does have 2 engines.
@@beverlywhite8433 in the utube I can't see the second engine

Best ultralight ever.

Very very very nice video! Cool!! Tell me please about props) Two props for one engine??? Diameter and pitch?
He started 2 engines

what material are the wings made of?

Engine's sound fine under high load.
But out of balance when cruising.
Nice flying lawn chair!
And where did you get that helmet?
I think that was through Aircraft Spruce.
i'm getting one..
Why is the pilot sitting in the fetal position? Why is there so little legroom?
Easier to shit yourself in that position if things go bad 😂
Sweet
Wow keren

I thought about that too. One going up the pant leg on shorts may be an event!
Exciting events make for better stories.

Horrible horrible design that tail/stabilizer is touching the ground 90% of the time

lots of clanking and ratteling...noisy as hell
It’s an ultralight. Ever fly a QuickSilver GT? Same thing.
