- Dead by Daylight: The Board Game had been funded on Kickstarter and Dicebreaker is here to give you a first look at some of the gameplay.
This cat-and-mouse game takes place in Dead by Daylight's classic trial grounds setting and brings all the elements you love about DBD to the board with a few tweaks.
One player takes the role of the Killer (in this case Liv plays The Nurse) and the others play the survivors (Maddie is Meg, Matt is Dwight, Wheels is Nea and Meehan is Claudette).
Will Liv's 500+ HOURS in the video game come in handy or will the plucky survivors live to escape another day?

Nice game! Glad you all had fun! And it was pretty close near the end!
Just a few rules mistakes:
1) Revealing a prop is not optional. Every time you enter a room, you MUST reveal a prop (even if it would reveal a prop you don't want to).
2) If for some reason, your movement is prevented (such as with Firecrackers), you lose the chance to interact that turn.
3) The Nurse's Thanatophobia perk only works on wounded Survivors making skill checks.
4) Not every dice roll in the game is a skill check. Usually only rolls related to interacting with props are skill checks. Dice rolls resulting from perks are usually not skill checks.
5) Survivors using a crow doesn't take it off the board.
6) Meg's Sprint Burst can't be used to double-back on the same path.
7) A Survivor who is hooked at the start of the round doesn't set a movement card. This means that, even if they get rescued, they still don't take a turn that round.

Is 7 explicitly in the game to allow camping to be emulated in the gameplay?
@@Wisdomseyes1 No, because when a survivor gets unhooked both the unhooked person and the unhooker get to move to an adjacent space of their choice and a killer in the space of the hooked person will not to able to interact/attack with the player coming in, unhooking and moving away or the unhooked person. The killer can only try to predict where the players will move to.
8) The killer can use their power only once per round. (It was used here twice one round at 33:05)
9) I believe you don't HAVE to tell what item you found in a chest.

BTW, you have my vote on seeing y'all play the video game together. I'm not familiar with the nurse character in the game. It would be interesting to see who would make the best nurse in the game. Still subscribed.
The nurse is terrifying in the game. Although she doesn't speak words, she let's out a shriek every time she uses her blink power, and you can hear it from anywhere in the map. It's very spooky.
This game is amazing!
Playing against any killer in this game is about playing around their power and perks as much as possible. The survivors will figure out how exactly they can do this, but that will only happen mid0game if its their first time playing or if their first time against that particular killer. This gives the killer a strong headstart. On experienced games, the killer usually doesn't get a hook before one or two gens are done.
By the time I had my chance to play my second game as killer, the survivor players were more used to the game and they absolutely destroyed me on the early game (and ultimately they won). Much like in the videogame, the game only really starts to the killer once you hook the first survivor, since this forces some of them to stop doing gens (and/or rumaging for items).
Survivors "keep winning" as long no one is hooked and the wounded are either going as far away from the killer as possible, while also dropping pallets, using crows, or whatever you can to make yourself more difficult to be caught.
The way I see it, the survivors start winning and the killer has to do something nasty... usually doing an extra turn and doing a lot of damage in a single round, or ruining their careful plan with their perks, to then change the flow of the game to their favor. My friends believe this game leans to be killer sided, but tbh I don't think I played it enough to gauge it. We don't care if it is balanced against the survivors because that's what we pretty much expect from "villain vs heroes" games (where 1 player plays against everyone else), because that is very thematic and the survivors winning feels very rewarding when it happens.
So many metal gear references, I was not expecting that, but enjoyed that a lot

Props to Liv for making this even more fun by doing the Nurse's voice sounds! It has all the "oh shoot she's going for me!" game vibes.

One thing I noticed (I sorta figured you could do this) is that the killer can cover a lot of options for the survivor with the right cards. On round 2 for example if the Nurse put down Green + Wait, every space the injured guy in her space could've ran to was covered with the cards and Spencer's Last Breath if need be, even IF they had used the crow to move another space (edit: unless they vaulted), and the OTHER injured survivor's spaces were covered except for the Vault option. Obviously to counter this the survivors have items and perks, but a killer with strategy is gonna be pretty difficult to escape without throwing pallets or hiding in lockers, especially if they have mobility options like the Nurse or Wraith. So genrushing is PROBABLY not viable in this game, you're gonna need those defensive options to stay alive.
Played against Nurse on my boardgame group on our second game (ever) against Nurse. We lost but it was...kinda close I think? (we powered up the exit gates but then the killer won on the
next round).
The logical counter would force her to use her power by always going as many spaces from her, then healing whoever she hits, because using her power means she'll only be able to hurt one survivor per round (since using the power is an interaction). The problem really is her Nurse's Calling perk, which means you'll give her 2 BP per round in that scenario and then she'll be able to take an extra turn every other round (or bank them) and that would quickly snowball against the survivors.
The most big-brain thing I could do against her, and I only did that once, is that I lured the player to attack me (I was the only one injuried), but in a way that she would only be able to hit me by moving to the only space she could reach me with a move with her second action (since that's how she can hit). The thing is that she had to use a color move, which I guessed correctly, to move closer to me and then the only space she could move from after teleport also had the same color as conecting move. I saw my friend looking at my space, thinking hard to figure out if there was any way to get me (there wasn't), then giving up and going for other survivors. I still had my sacrificing token on me and was the only one hurt at the time, so she wouldn't be able to hook me for faster progression and had to make a play to try and hurt someone else.
Another thing that helped us was to have multiple people being healed at the same round (that includes using a medkit) so that she would only get the 2 BP from perk once (remember that perks and powers can only be used once per round).
@@MrRaposaum Excellent strategy! Ironically I think this means that she'll be weakest on her home turf where she might have to use more than 2 greens to traverse the roundabout if her original path gets blocked by a pallet.
Though I must ask: HOW'D YOU GET THE BOARDGAME ALREADY AND CAN I SEE A PLAYTHROUGH OF IT?

A friend of ours is a board game enthusiast and pledged hard on the kickstart. He got the "demo" version of the game to playtest. He brought it with him from the US and we played it on two night sessions. He said the game is still on development and subject to change. He'll receive the final version when the game is released (on October I think?) and he also got the Collectors edition, which has +2 maps, +10 killers and +10 survivors. We can't wait to play these too!
@@MrRaposaum Oh yeah, I pledged for Collector's Edition too. I have zero idea who I'll play it with but you can bet I'll be Jonesing for it for AS LONG AS IT TAKES.

As an avid dbd player that is currently around lvl220, I am curious to see if the board game is anywhere near as fun as the video game. Thus, late as I may be, I am excited for the shenanigans.

They specifically went for the Eastern version actually, Ringu, and thus her name is Sadako in game.
Finally, the only dbd game where you can call people idiots for not they saying, "you can't use [enter perk here] it's against the rules!"
