02:40 - A seam ripper will make short work of wrapped bundles. Any canvas, sailmaking or upholstery or drape shop in the area will probably give you one each of their small and large rippers. The small ones are good for really thin things and tight spaces and the larger ones are good for thicker wraps. Much less chance of nicking wires with a blade. (From an ex-saddler and sailmaker!)
09:55 I like to use 2-3 different sized heat shrink tubes, one over the other, to step up from smaller to larger connections. Your way works, of course, but I like to keep things as neat and professional as possible, plus then any flexing in the line is gradual, putting less work hardening on the wire. Also more of a guarantee nothing will find its way inside for the next 20 years.
Hi Arch. . .I am one of those mechanics that electronics completely escapes. Thanks for the through explanation but I am still in the dark. . .LOL! But you are still the greatest. John
Thanx John,,,, Understood,,,It takes practice and some good understanding of the principles. I've been messin with this stuff since I was a kid then did much of this professionally for years. There's the practice! Clean and simple is key!
Well done Arch enjoyed this modification would make you wonder why they just do not install this type of charging system on all electric start push and self propelled mowers.
Thanx Wayne,,,It does make one wonder! Units with electric start are more money, that means a customer with a bit more cash and a desire for a few extreeees Very odd indeed...I would like to do a briggs next, maybe a nice Craftsman Machine or even an Older Tecummy Toro
Wait, at 00:20, you paid WHAT for that push mower?!!! I don't believe it! ;-) That said, I've always been impressed with the durability of my inherited HRA214 - still going strong at 40 years with great compression. I've graduated to a curb find lawn tractor because at 75, running around behind a mower, even self-propelled, is more than I want to do. I fully serviced the Honda last season (with all my new-found small engine skills) and lent it to my sister for the rest of the Summer until I can restore one of my curb finds for them.
Yup,, I think it was just under that with tax,,,I live in one of the most expensive areas and I cant afford it these days.. Back when I bough it, very few places carried these. I needed something that was new, adjustable and easy to use cuz I had broke my back and my daughter was cutting the lawn. BTW eventually using that machine was one of the things that helped me recover!
if you still have the same lawnmower, i would like to get serial and model nbr so i can order the recoil rope and kit that will have rope on battery side or exhuast side..
Great concept, although for my money a muscle start is still the best bet. 4-strokes are so easy to pull and start if tuned up and taken care of I would only mess with something like this if a customer insisted. Now a battery start on some big chainsaws... ;-) As usual with electrical stuff, my brain started to glaze over pretty early into this one. I know I'll get it some day, hopefully before I die. I wish they'd invent something else (other than darn electricity) that did the same stuff but was more intuitive and easy to understand. ;-) Thanks for the video, Arch. Now I know what that HRX is that you use in some of your intros.
The Doctors call your "Muscle start" "Torqueing" the body, its that twist or rotation of the body especially with weight or resistance of some kind. That is really bad. Very painful and could have brought me to my knees for days! Electricity is easy as most things are but we all need to start at the beginning! Solid and simple foundations of understanding! I started as a child. When I was a child I read constantly then I went and found things in the real physical world I could see and touch! Thanx fer watchi'n Rein
I have never seen coils like this before! What are they off of, or do you know a part number or a briggs model? Ive been looking for something like this for a 4hp briggs on a minibike
I don't know,,I collect this crap by parting out what is now probably thousands of machines! At some point I will have to research this.. Try a google search for coils with a charging circuit.. Ya will have to modify ya searches.....They must be available.
Nice Mod Arch! Are the battery packs still available? I wonder if the cells can be replaced with off the shelf Lithium batteries when one or more of those cells gives up. Cheers Buddy! Zip~
Thanx Zippo,,,,,I dont know of the packs are available, too lazy to check and yes I too have thought about putting together something a bit more powerful with new technology as well. A nice Li-Ion or even a mod from a drill battery! Hmmmmm
Thanks much . I just subscribed. I have HRX217 with electric start.. one thing i dont like is that the recoil rope is on carburateor side but i want that in other side that is on exhaust side. you have it at 1:19 clip.. can you pls advise how can i do that.. i tried to swap from other engine it doesn even fit.. apprecaite your help..
Yes as I mentioned in the video. I had 2 of these, one was damaged.. As I said I cant remember. I service and resto thousands. It should be available for any engine in the aftermarket, a bit of research on amazon should do. My guess, a generator that has a battery start. Also we can find these on engines set up for snow. any battery start engine variant
Next time I service my machine I'm gonna look for a part number..They usually dont put that. Also I wonder if calling a honda dealer or small engine tech service... It would have come off of an older honda GC 160 or 190 for a deluxe mower model with electric start and a battery pack
I'm also thinking that those older plastic machines had a different engine on them... Still honda but those early engines may have a different name, they looked more like Kohler engines

I often do the same, I'm running low on that size. That one white piece was just to hold the fiber sleeve.

@@TheNovaJohn Yep the older customers like the electric start since some of them have difficulty pulling the recoil rope!
Absolutely, as well as some women these days.

Usually you can just rotate the pull starter and bolt it down.
@@TheNovaJohn Thanks just did it and it worked fine. Have your flushed your transmission on HRX217
Glad it worked!
Hey, great call!! Thanks for the reminder!
Gonna look into that this season! That's a video fur sure!
what coil is that? never seen it before off the honda?
Yes as I mentioned in the video.

You got a link for this coil
No sadly,, I burn through sooo many machines every year!
Shouldn't be hard to find it!
@@TheNovaJohn so far no luck i found a kawasaki coil that is similar for $100 or just use a pm alternator from a kubotta or john deer for like $70
