    GREAT video and the video makes this a repair that anyone can do with about 4-6 hours of unloading the fridge, disassembly, cleanup, parts swap, reassembly, and reloading groceries in the frig. Your time may vary but WELL WORTH IT! Saved a lot of money. I got my parts from them (one was back-ordered so had to get it from somewhere else) even though it was a little more on the parts, I wanted to give them the business for making this video available. Thanks again Repair Clinic. You guys Rock!

    What's unbelievable is how these manufacturers make such a common failed part so difficult to replace. That's outrageous.

    Is this was controls the drawers and allows them to dampen when shutting?

    I don’t own one of these but someone is selling one & says every month or two she needs to defrost her fridge! Would this be why? Is the fan & evaporator failing causing her freeze up inside the fridge?

    How does defrost work on these models, since there is no defrost heater there?

  • @rjgonyer

    So I've got the 5 door Kitchenaid as well, and our freezer coils are continuously freezing up. About once a month I have to take it all apart and defrost it. I thought it might be worth just replacing the fan/thermistor assembly, but I mistakenly bought the refrigerator one instead of the freezer one. Whoops. Since I was in there, I tested the heater and thermistor with a meter and both had some continuity.... so what could be wrong causing this to constantly freeze up? Also, we have stopped using the icemaker because it will occasionally thaw and we wind up with a puddle on our floor. Would this be a damper issue? All the checks in service mode "pass". About ready to buy a new fridge but it's only about 4 years old and was not cheap! The service guys that Kitchenaid sends our are 100% useless so I refuse to go that route again.

      @@repairclinic How do I determine if that's the case? I had the freezer all apart yesterday and I didn't see where the drain would be....

      @rjgonyer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@repairclinic Ha I was right, 1 month later and I can hear my fan hitting the ice again. I can thaw out the entire coil which should be thawing out the drain as well. I tried to put the fridge into a mode where you can just have it automatically defrost once a day, but they must have removed that from the service menu. Do you know if there's a way to check if the damper is working right? I'm tempted to just buy a new fridge and freezer thermistor, plus the damper, but it seems like a lot to spend when I'm not positive that's the case. I'll check out your link to see if I am testing it right.

    Do you HAVE to remove the doors to replace this?

    • @ourfather1098
      @ourfather1098 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but the video makes it super easier to get done. It walks you through step by step. I did it and saved about $900 to $1100 on parts and repair. Well worth the time. See the evaporator fan replacement video too. I replaced both parts just in case since they are in the same area of the frig.

      You DO NOT need to remove the doors or about half of the other parts they say to in the video. See my comment and instructions in their video of replacing the evaporator fan: th-cam.com/video/ZFeHzy2U2Cw/w-d-xo.html
