Body Shaming Needs To Stop | thin shaming, fat shaming, commenting on other people's bodies

  • Hi friends!
I know this isn’t really a new concept, but since it’s still happening, I wanted to share my thoughts on why we shouldn’t comment on other people’s bodies! Even if we comment with good and positive intentions, we can still end up being unintentionally hurtful.
When we get comments on our bodies, we tend to second guess ourselves, starting from our specific body parts (stomach, thighs, height, etc), but we then let our judgment spread to the other areas of who we are. The comments slowly infiltrate our heads to create insecurities and anxieties about ourselves, but it should be the other way around.
Human beings have a ton of characteristics other than how we look that makes us beautiful and incredibly unique so we should be focusing on that instead! Who cares about how certain thighs look when you can focus on the thigh owner’s inspiring and wholesome way of thinking? Why focus on how someone’s stomach looks when you have their kickass personality to look forward to?
It’s time we stop with the body shaming comments and move on to a non harmful way of communicating with one another.
Because I swear if I get one more comment on how I need to lose/gain weight, my small butt, my stomach rolls, my short neck, or anything else about my body that doesn’t need to be brought to my attention, I will riot. Not just for me, but for everyone and anyone that has been faced with body shaming comments (probably almost everybody on this planet?)!
Love y’all and hope you remember to highlight your amazing (not just physical) features today!

Do you think there could ever be a time/place to comment on somebody's body? I feel like SOMEWHERE SOMEHOW it could be possible to encourage somebody for taking hard, disciplined steps towards a body they want, without judging or condemning anyone else. it's just maybe people feel entitled to be able to make those comments when they're not close enough to somebody to know if it's appropriate or not?

This is a good question! Personally, I would focus on the non-physical attributes when I say something to someone. If I'm worried about a friend because their body suddenly changed, I would ask them if they're alright and we could go from there. If they've opened up and trusted me with how they want to improve their body/strength, then I would be okay talking to them about it, but I still try to refrain from mentioning anything about their body 🥺

@@theflyingarioh Seems like a tactful way to approach it. I feel like there's just way too much judgement and focus on physical appearance in all of society in general, which makes the subject more uncomfortable even between close friends, but no way that changes any time soon
Anyway great work on the videos, lots of good talks and good vibes
