Spot on re distribution, Ed - I’m a fair bit younger than Brian, but although a relative of mine had Marvel, in northern England in the 1970’s I only saw DC in my local newsstands - took me a good ten years to start getting Marvel even though I knew all the characters (oddly much the same with Warlord from DC - others have said they never saw that either!)
Jim's take on the inbreeding of influence in the nineties is sooo insightful. My reaction to this as a kid still influences my art preferences. I turned away from "pouches" and found Bone and Madman.

Looking forward to the Red Room trade. I picked up the first issue on a pre-order but I haven't been able to get the subsequent issues, so I'm stoked you're throwing some extras in the tpb. Makes it worth the wait.
in South Africa we definitely had alot more DC than Marvel comics throughout the years. i would imagine we got most of our stuff through the UK so im sure it would have been the same other there.
It’s stylistic vs realistic. Jack Kirby beat all them to the punch. He’d already proved himself anatomically back in the day with Joe Simon. The Neal Adams school of thought 💭 couldn’t grok the Kirbyesque, because they hadn’t followed him through the Stargate. He brought Cubism and the surreal to comics. Of course, they’re not going to get him. Continuity’s all about the swipe file, whereas Kirby remains transcendent even now.
