    Thank you so much for mentioning treating thrift store employees with kindness. It's important to remember that Goodwill also employs people with disabilities and not all disabilities are visible. Some are trying their very best.

      It doesn't matter if someone has a disability or not, its best to be kind to humanity in general, no one is super human

      Yes, be kind because thrift stores are not kind to the public anymore; they are out there to rip you off changing the label colors on the items so they won't match the deals; also selling stuff at higher prices than at your local Walmart.

    I’ve been given discounts because the cashiers remember me. I’m always patient, helpful with removing hangers and organizing my items and conversational. People definitely remember those who make their job less irritating 🙂

    Being kind- YES! I take the items off the hangers, they give me the bags so I can bag while they ring up, and I’ll go hang the hangers up on the racks by the cashiers. I have a great rapoire with some of my GW cashiers because I was there every Monday and Wednesday for $.99 days for 3 months straight. When I had such a HUGE death pile that I couldn’t justify going for a few weeks, I got some grumpy looks when I came back in. I said, “ I promise I haven’t been cheating on you with another thrift store!” I was forgiven.🥰. And the not calling a manager for price, they just look at me, smile, and ring it up $.99. Keep up the good information, Christina!

    Hiya Christina, my tip (for around me at least) is: dress down. Don’t go dressed w/ expensive clothes, shoes, handbag. I’ve had them look me over when I had a vintage Gucci handbag (paid $1 for it when no one wanted vintage Gucci), the item was priced & they said it was priced wrong, should’ve been much higher! They made it so obvious as well. Essentially accused me of switching tags i.e. stealing! (Ahem you know what I told them to do🤬.) If I go in old jeans, no name handbag & my converse I don’t have a prob. I’m not the only one who’s had this happen either, crazy! Have a lovely weekend! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️🦇

      halo merric - It’s so unfair, especially since I started shopping secondhand first back in the 70s when I had little money (like when I got that Gucci handbag) + I’m a crazy environmentalist who took my ecology classes very serious!

      I agree! Never get looked at twice when I have my old kinda beat-up trusty keds, (like converse but for just women) older/worn jeans, and a cheap graphic tee. If I dress nicer (even if it's not name brand) the whole dynamic is different!

    Thank goodness you talked about being nice to the employees, I use to be a cashier worker at Goodwill, and there were several rude customers that would find many tactics just to lower prices and tend to be inconsiderate to the employees. It was always relieving to see nice customers around.

    Am just starting to resell full time after years of part time. All your tips were great and I was doing most of them myself. I always go down each aisle several times, but I go opposite directions because some things show up better from a different angle!
    I do shop sale days, but if you go late in the day before the sale day, there’s lots of good stuff out! I have one Goodwill where the employees will come ask me if I’m interested in an item that they are about to put out and then they’ll actually get it for me! And I always take clothes off the hangers and organize my cart by colored tickets - makes for an easy and speedy checkout!

    My tips are to go to thrift stores run by churches or other charity organizations because their prices and items tend to be better, and they will often have fewer customers. You may be able to even haggle with locally run shops. Also, if you live near a military base, go to the surrounding thrift stores. Military families will frequently just donate everything when it’s time to move rather than pack up. (And you can sometimes find cool stuff in there from Germany, Korea, and Italy.)

    Omg you are the female version of me !!! I just thought today maybe I should see if anyone else does what I do ? And guess what a lot of people do .. I work full time but while my friends are playing video games I’m shopping in thrift stores or garage sales or online . I sell around 15-20 items a week in person and / or online . I love doing it it’s fulfilling and the money is great !! When my storage units get full of stuff I thought was cool ( but none else did ) I load it up and spend a weekend at the flea market ( dumping ) my impulse buys for cost or slightly over . This is both fun and I meet like minded people and make some great connections . I also buy from other vendors on Sunday afternoon and get amazing deals while helping lighten the load of my cohorts . Great video I love you enthusiasm I will watch some more !!!

    A) You had a Doctor Mike ad 🤗🤙🤙🤙🤙
    B) I’ve had a lightbulb moment with the “trying things on” tip! I’ve been struggling with figuring out what sizes to buy & stuff, but it makes sense to have stuff I can model cuz I like seeing how the items fit if I’m searching the feed. So helpful cuz I tend to get overwhelmed. 😆 I just never thought of this before! Thanks so much for this video, lady!!! 😁💗👊

    Girl...the crotch...yessss. I was looking at pajamas and found some really cute, flannel shorts. I didn't take them home after checking the crotch. I'll leave it at that. Why the workers put that garment out vs throwing it away.....beyond me.
    I like to visit the thrift stores that are closer to the nicer areas of cities because the people within those nicer areas go to their closest thrift to dump their fancy clothes and things. I always have the best luck finding nicer brands of clothes and accessories for my own closet this way. Thanks for posting I'm still figuring this re selling thing out.

    Being friendly and kind and conversational is the key when it comes to thrifting. One manager let me go in the back dump out the sneakers they had in bags pick out what I wanted and then would get them for $2 a pop. Ofcourse i always cleaned up after myself and didn't leave the place messy.

    The comments about older people and goodwills - is. soo. true!! Oddly enough, it relates more in the north than it does in the south, but it still works pretty well in the south. Those southern women are all about reselling their clothes to get money to buy more - including the older ones. (I lived in Tennessee and ALL the old women were the ones that were bringing their clothes in to sell at the consignment shop... every time. They don't just drop their stuff off at the thrift stores as easily as the northern old women are.)

  • @DizzyLizziePop
    @DizzyLizziePop 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I don’t resale but it’s crucial to try on clothes with zippers I have bought many a pair just checking the zip while the pants are on the hanger then you put it on and the zipper splits! Same with jackets. My fave jackets has a broken zipper so that’s probably why it was donated but it also has a button closure on top so it’s not really a big deal. But YES be friendly with your thrift store cashiers! I get so many deals and I don’t even ask!

    Super helpful!! Thanks! I have one question: Did you google search every item in the beginning to find its value? • @ChristinaCharalyn
      @ChristinaCharalyn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you :) Some things I already know the value of just off the top of my head but I definitely whip out my phone and look things up in the store! I usually find a nice quiet corner and go through all of my stuff at the end. I do research then and also look for flaws. I know how awkward it can be at first but you will get used to it after a while and it really helps you make informed purchases. I have never had anyone confront me or ask me if I am a reseller if that makes you feel better lol It also pays to just go with your gut sometimes! I don't research alot of the vintage pieces I pick up. I just go with what I like :) Sorry that was long winded lol but I hope that helps! You got this!

    You think like me but I’m a newbie. I started as a Winners shopper. Thanks for the tips and reassuring some of my intuition habits. Wish we could go on a haul together! 😂

      I always use the site vintagefashionguild.org for research on vintage labels, sammydvintage has a great blog for vintage clothing as well, and I’ve found a lot of really helpful information for vintage glassware on Pinterest 😊

    What do you think of selling on Mercari?
    Also-great tips! Just subscribed.

      It depends on what you are trying to sell. For me, mercari was very hit or miss. I did do a pros and cons video on all the different platforms. I will link the Mercari video down below if you'd like to check it out :)

    • @ChristinaCharalyn
      @ChristinaCharalyn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing I use a lot is google lense 😊 it’s free to download and let’s you use a picture of the item to search. I have also found that just typing in a basic description of the item often leads to a similar item that can give you keywords to search even further 😊 hope that helps!

    Hey resellers, have any of you had luck grouping items, vintage or otherwise, into a basket to sell as a theme basket ?

    • @ChristinaCharalyn
      @ChristinaCharalyn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't done baskets but I have done styled bundles of clothing that did very well :)
