I served in the Nixon White House. In 1972 I flew aboard a C5A to Iran with a stop in Spain that contained the presidential limo, three SS vehicles, A Marine One helicopter and all of our equipment. These transport aircraft are amazing.
Very cool story, thanks for sharing. The idea of packing a Marine 1 helicopter is amazing. But I've always wondered how the get the president from country to country in Europe, short trips that is, even within a country where firing up air force one isn't feasible.

Thank you so much for sharing. How does the secret service handle presidential visits that require multiple stops within say one or two days? I always see when the president gets off the plane there's always a limo waiting at the bottom of the steps. Say he takes off after a couple of hours visiting a country. How come when he departs there's a limo that takes him to the plane and then when the plane lands in another country, another limo is waiting for him there? Does that mean there could be multiple sets of convoy vehicles including the beast, traveling in relay fashion between the stops? That's a lot of undertaking
@@miscidvid2154 multiple domestic trips are supported by the MAC. Limos and SS vehicles are quickly loaded and transported to the next destination. Usually before AF1 departs.

The level of security and coordination is quite remarkable, not to mention the people who make all of this happen. I suppose the nice thing about working in the White House travel office is that you don't get put on hold by the airlines and car rental agencies.
40 to 50 car convoy WOW Now that's impressive. I wonder if that would change if there is inclimate weather or if that's just the standard set up .Either way that's very impressive planning to pull that off 👏.

When AF1 arrives at my nearby airport - London Stansted it’s ridiculous the chaos it creates. Multiple commercial flights are left holding or have to divert. There’s multiple vehicles, choppers and other aircraft just to serve a 2 day visit. Meanwhile our PM has one plane or travels commercially.

Come to DC! It happens so regularly some of us can even tell whether it's a presidential motorcade or some other dignitaries or officials. Imagine the fun we had with the last president.

I was fortunate enough to see the motorcade when Obama visited our University. The people and vehicles on the ground are only part of the whole scene. Up above there were 2 big and very ominous looking helicopters slowly circling the area, and there were 5 or 6 sharpshooters with binoculars perched on top of a couple buildings nearby. It was really impressive to see that whole orchestrated process going on above and around me. “Security” isn’t a strong enough word to describe the extreme level of protective forces at work.
Very informative video. A few things not mentioned.
# The vehicles in the motorcade can also travel in helicopters in an air-ocade if required. Have seen this when President Bill Clinton visited Belfast. It's impressive to view about 34 helicopters in formation.
# The Helicopter that transports the president, does have another call sign. That call sign is 'Executive One'. This is used only when an outgoing president Leaves office on their journey to Andrews Joint airforce base. This call sign can be used by the a sitting President, only if, and that's a big if, they're travelling in an commercial aeroplane. The last president to do that was President Richard Nixon.
# Air Force One isn't any principle aeroplane. It is an air traffic control call sign, that is active upon the arrival of the sitting President. The usual aeroplanes are 28000/29000 which are the instantly recognised as the Boeing 747''s. But, President Trump regularly travelled when they were in office in the Boeing 757's, for convenience, as some runways didn't have the space for a 747 landing. Plus, it also gave time for the teams to do 'Angel maintenance', on the 747's to make them available. There is ,of course,the Doomsday aeroplane available too. Just in case it is required at short notice.

I get it. For the Queen's funeral all VIP guest were requested to be transported by bus to the front of the various venues to cut down on traffic. However USA had to do the full blown over the top routine.

Back in the day, I was a boom operator on -135s, but one of TDYs I got sent on was a BANNER Support out of Hickam AFB, HI for President G.W. Bush. Me and a few of my squadron mates were responsible for helping the other aircrews who were flying all the equipment necessary to support the president and his staff as they headed over to Asia. If I remember correctly, it was around a three week TDY. I wondered how many aircrews and aircraft could there be to support, it seems like a week would've been enough. But what did I care, i thought I'd have a couple weeks to screw around in Hawaill. Little did I know.
Long story short, it was three full weeks of babysitting aircrews - it was day after day of planes, sometimes two or three at a time. I didn't really know what was in all the C-17s and C-5s we were supporting but it was mind boggling and really opened my eyes to all the support that's required to move a US president. And we were just one leg of the trip.
What I thought was going to be a three week vacation turned out to be a few hours on Waikiki beach.

I tell a lot of stories because I'm old.
In 1975 I was touring DC on leave with a friend from my unit. We were in class A uniform, standing near a White House gate, when a line of limousines began to exit. The cars stopped and a man got out of one and asked if we would like to meet the President.
President Ford, leaning forward, asked our names, shook hands, asked where we were from and thanked us for our service. Then he asked the (Secret Service?) gentleman to give us his business card. Just his name, big signature and the White House printed on it. It was over in two minutes. At most

the 747 air force one is a older generation of the 747 referred to as a classic variant three pilots are required for it to fly anywhere
No 747 has three pilot seats it may have a pilot and co-pilot and flight engineer but there's no such thing as a three pilot plane

I had a close customer that served on the Presidential Detail for 20+. He's told me of some times that plans would change so quickly that he didn't have time to grab his suitcases and left with the suit he was wearing and get new clothes when he got to their destination. His stories can be very interesting since he served since Clinton's second term until when I'm not sure but it wasn't all continuous.
And then to think as he does when it came to how many times Trump went to Mar Logo during his term really pisses me of for how much it cost when he said he would be to busy to play golf when he was campaigning. Everyone deserves time off, but shit "O" dear!!!

Why Isaac can never mentioned multiple c17 GlobeMaster planes are required to transfer the entire presidential convoy required whenever the president travels?
Also the video never mentioned how there is always a complete presidential convoy and helicopters always waiting at the foot of the Air Force One plane every time the president disembarks especially when the itinerary requires stops at multiple cities say in the period of 2 days?
Everyone knows it is impossible for all the ground and supplementary air transportation to travel to the next stop.
