These guys are REALLY into it, and its a real treat to have them go into the gear in-depth, showing that when you work on the details, everything just falls into place. Cool to feel the sentimentality for the synths they used on the way up. Thanks very much...Peace...BR
Wow trippy seeing those old drum machines. I owned all of them at one time back in the day and pretty much had given them all away by the time of my Roland S770's. Its cool how todays young musicians are resurecting these old blast from the past electronics, and FM has been doing a great job documenting these small production rooms and the artist that fill them.
Love this episode. The dynamic between these two is so funny. The tall guy seems to be more hands off but he does play a couple short riffs when he's off camera. And he clearly knows his stuff.
Many people started with the Korg M500 Micro-Preset 6:40 including myself, you guys and OMD, which is pretty much the bulk of their first album. The white noise at the start of 'Electricity' is it's white noise generator, and Enola Gay uses the 500 in the riff, along with a bit of cheap organ and a pluck sound. I still have mine, and I know it doesn't do cool sounds, but add a few effects and it can do some nice background sounds.
So I first heard cross the dance floor remix from laid back luke and then I heard chromeo's mix and was blown away. That's why I clicked on this tour. I will now look for more of there music.
Nice gear: above the Akai-sampler you see the Yamaha A-3000 or A-4000.The A-3000 is a great sampler especially for it's build in effects and filters inside.I used it to remix my entire album "Universal Energy" and called it "Universal Energy Sfx".
Drum programming tip: ALWAYS separate ur instruments. If you're using a drum machine, maybe play with it like u would a piece of gear to figure a pattern out, but record each instrument onto a separate channel so u can EQ out clashing frequencies without having to do it on the master.
lol, see the acoustic Foam on the roof like 1ft thick, (enough to dampen 30-50hz waveforms), he must live in the bottom of an apartment with people above haha, Glad people at this level still have the same problems as me :)
James Reeno listen to what P says about it.... he said its a too familiar sound, and it is a very big sound, which gets lost into the mix too much, in their style of music they prefer a clean sound, so the moog doesnt fit in well with what they do, shame though, its a beast.
See this is what Im talking about ! Just saw the Avicii video from FM. "First I start with a drum loop" I mean, come on where's the artistic pride in that?
hi what did he mean by transposing the keys and he never played chords because I have a dx21 with the roger patches n some other ones and would like to figure out thx
I'm not too familiar with the DX but I guess transposing on the DX involves some menu diving. By saving the same patch transposed to different memory locations you basically make it an easy process with the patch selector, 1-2 button clicks. This is very useful in a live situation. The benefit of transposing in general is you can play the same chords only on the white keys for songs in different keys and you can also easily do runs and note bending with glide, which can be awkward or even impossible to do in a white key-black key combination.
dont get it twisted these guys are def on the computer just like martin when the cameras are off ...these instruments are all their vanity project collection and they def loaded all the sounds into their computer
I love their music, but why does it seem like they kind of hate each other? well...maybe not hate but there is a kind of tension between them. is it just me?
AmasiMusic Yup, sure I do, and they look so different... Maybe it's a love/hate relationship, but they sure do look tense... maybe they had a quarrel recently, who knows...
I love that every keyboard he goes to has the same bass patch dialed in

I watched this 9 years ago... I promised myself i would build a room like this. 9 years later I have it 😀. Thank you Chromeo for the inspa.

Never really liked Chromeo until this video. They seem like pretty cool dudes...
right, they seem like the most well rounded dudes, at least P......
"mostly if our idea sounds old we're gonna use new equpiment, if our idea sounds new were gonna use old equipment" - a wise man

WHY didn't they talk about the MASSIVE Oberheim OB-X underneath the Roland VP-330 Plus?!
Adam Borseti I agree. I'm going to see them tonight. I'm pretty excited to see what they will use.
So I first heard cross the dance floor remix from laid back luke and then I heard chromeo's mix and was blown away. That's why I clicked on this tour. I will now look for more of there music.
Chromeo In The Studio With Future Music - In The Studio With #Chromeo here.
these guys are so pro! consummate musicians who are total gear geeks and capable technicians.
this guys are funky as hell.
thank you very much for finally posting the full video.

i come back here just for comfort at this point
they have a great studio, they're a good band, cool Montrealers
That taller guys suit is dashing.
Love this band!.. i also like the fact that they are complete music nerds. This video is making me wanna play synth
This video made me think I had a dead pixel on my MacBook Pro. (Lower left quarter of screen.)
+Scott Wozniak LOL same
Why didn't we get to see David's guitars?
this was thoroughly helpful to me and entertaining
Great video!
such a great pair, love em :D

slytown lol... do you think people are actually recording everyting on one track? lol....
Duhhh. Multi-tracking has been around for a loooong time. Are you a newbie??
lol, see the acoustic Foam on the roof like 1ft thick, (enough to dampen 30-50hz waveforms), he must live in the bottom of an apartment with people above haha, Glad people at this level still have the same problems as me :)
I love these guys
Great guys and really inspirational!
Somebody know what that instrument at 31:20 is please?
Kind regards
Alieu Stian Samateh
5th or 6th time watching and continuing to learn
I love how they use like 3 or 4 synths to emulate a moog yet they have Moogs in the studio. Oh well. I love their music.
Yeah. I don't get that.
James Reeno listen to what P says about it.... he said its a too familiar sound, and it is a very big sound, which gets lost into the mix too much, in their style of music they prefer a clean sound, so the moog doesnt fit in well with what they do, shame though, its a beast.
+Blaise ingyou that bullshit. My moog sounds perfect in every song i have used it in. It's all in the MIX.
DRUM MACHINE HEAVEN!!!
Killa tour...is there many differences between the MPC5000 and AKAI RENAISSANCE?
😊
hahaha i like it when he goes towards Nord and says "this is self explanatory"
the suit! they have style:)
Great guys
What's the synth below DSI Prophet 08, which he uses for that awesome sounding bass? I friggin love that sound.
AWESOME VIDEO !
very great video!
See this is what Im talking about ! Just saw the Avicii video from FM. "First I start with a drum loop" I mean, come on where's the artistic pride in that?
hi what did he mean by transposing the keys and he never played chords because I have a dx21 with the roger patches n some other ones and would like to figure out thx
did you figure this out?
He played the same chords just transposed them, some synths have an inbuilt function to do so.
I need to know more

“The minimoog just gets lost in mud, and you have to play with it... but it’s great”
Lol
if you were to estimate the total cost of all the equipment in that room, what number do you think you would get
i love the gear
Now I really want a VP-330
They have a huge marshmellow of synths and drum machine
Are those water pipes right over the synths?
Did anyone else find themselves waiting ages for the camera to turn around to see the rest of the studio?
i think the guy with the glasses powdered his nose in the bathroom right before Future Music showed up. cocaine is a hell of a drug
What mixer are they using?!
What makes you think they've never used a VST plugin?
No, those pipes carry awesome. If that drips down into the synths, it's perfectly ok. In fact, it's preferred.
Can someone please give me the name of the drum machine they are starting with ? I can't read the nameplate. thx
It's Sequential Circuits drumtraks Model 400
Thx !
I highly doubt they're unaware, it's more likely they don't want to use those due to the characteristic sound, like he said, they're too ubiquitous.
ok watch this, and then watch the martin garrix 'in the studio'. hilarious
Rob I "I've had a studio for like 5 to 6 years" ... where is it?
All I saw was a computer with KRKs
***** exactly hahah. its like a room from ikea. he looks like the most scared person alive too
dont get it twisted these guys are def on the computer just like martin when the cameras are off ...these instruments are all their vanity project collection and they def loaded all the sounds into their computer
they have a very good selection... they really choosed carefully what it is needed :)
watch the next video. Them in the studio.
It runs off Cakewalk on an old Pentium.
What mixer is that they use ?
Yay a HS-60!
Wait, WTF? They never got into what they sequence with!!! "Old school 90's computer sequencer." dammit I really wanna know. Amiga?
Cakewalk 3.0
Korg micropreset, my first synth too :))
25:30 what synth is that?
nice keyboards
oh, thanks.
maaaaan, you MUST use the minimoog! :O
DVDS before the internet? Around 36:20 .
The Sound at 10:09 ...... heebie-jeebies!!!!
they never showed the sequencer
aw come on, they never showed the software!
Or just an MPC 2500? Do it oldskool.
What's the synth that P plays a tune on at 8:51?
+Alonzo Hernandez Realistic Concertmate MG-1 (Made by Moog)
+Alonzo Hernandez Moog Realistic Concertmate MG-1.
+Mike DeGroff +Shaw613 Thanks!
Maschine all the way. tried both numerous times and maschine is better overall by a long shot.
Literally the definition of hipsters too
1:52 hall and oates right
He said he starts with that, then goes and programs something better himself.
I thought you meant bongs
Jefferson??
how that drumtrax sounds... when you combine it with the 707, thats a killer combo.
Hate for one of those pipes to burst in their with all their Tech & PA
I love their music, but why does it seem like they kind of hate each other? well...maybe not hate but there is a kind of tension between them. is it just me?
not just you...face and body language tells everything
leadpain True, I kind of get a feeling of discomfort watching them in this video xD seems like they're competing with each other
AmasiMusic Looks like they're just sharing gear... :)
theeltea But do you see what I mean? xD
AmasiMusic Yup, sure I do, and they look so different... Maybe it's a love/hate relationship, but they sure do look tense... maybe they had a quarrel recently, who knows...
Well, there's a radiator right next to it, so yes :p
what a crazy freaks! )))
they never kissed each other???
these guys are definitely in their basement, haha.
I think it is a prodigy.
Yeah Cakewalk 3 pro audio, and they make a million times better music than the hipsters using the logic x, live 9, fl,.....
holy shit. this is the electronic version of Spinal tap.
MiniMoog!
their bestfriends
lots of expensive gear..but damn your studio light is cheap bro,lol
Some music needs to be perfect, and most sucks when it is.
The pipes! why the goddamn pipes! At least channel them so a leak won't be immediately catastrophic!
The filming of this is so terrible, 'shaky' plus having the video light in shot.. shame..
300'000$ studio
You have to 'zero beat' your Pro One
i dont fucking know where he is talking about damnn
