Wow - I've been a fan of these guys for a while, but after watching this, my respect for them has skyrocketed. Their commitment to authenticity is amazing.
What a beautiful setup, the instruments double as set pieces for the stage design. It reminds me of Kraftwerk's 1981 and 1998 tours, when the stage was filled with a portable version of their Kling Klang studio. It's visually fascinating to watch a musician operating a large console--- far superior to a guy fiddling with a laptop. Great video, thanks to everybody for taking the time to put this together!
A big thank you to everyone involved in sharing this video with us. The expenditure of labor here is extraordinary. Feels like a privilege to get this kind of access to such a special instrument.
I've been following the magic of Chromeo for a long time. It is awesome to get a glimpse at all the hard work that goes in to crafting their live show.
The last section of this video is super interesting on how the live experience is created/managed/directed. What a privilege to have this whole interview! Thanks to all who made this happen!
When I saw the size of Chromeo I thought of a sculptor standing in front of a big block of marble just about to start their masterpiece. But in this instance the musician is the sculptor they create, carve and shape the sound. Its a process that may take some time but when it works they create an audible masterpiece.
What a truly awesome show, guys are humbling, they do quite a lot on stage and then reveal to use mere mortals their efforts. I made mention that the reflection would be their downfall, only to be corrected that they use it to their advantage to bounce light back into the audience. This is remarkable, not only is it an instrument to play, but it acts as a center piece to further enhance the light show. Thx Anthony and Dante for your tireless and hard work.
nice to see someone controlling theri modular with a keyboard. i felt like i was the only idiot playing keys to control their eurorack when i red in forums about modular synths.
Great storytelling, and a great star - CHROMEO! Something tells me this thing is much more bass capable than I'm hearing through YT. It looks absolutely beautiful. Thank you and your team for this, and of course, would love to see more!
Very inspiring and cool. This video really explains the "why" of synth-diy and why so many people does it. Im sure this question have been asked before but when will we see Sam Battle on this channel? Look mum no computer. Another mad genius and musician with a very similar setup to this, smaller but designed and built by himself. It would be very interesting to see a video with Anthony and Rob meeting Sam. Doctor mix should also be there. I hope that video will come. I would love to see and hear the sounds Anthony would get out of Kosmo!
Super fan of Chromeo since day 1. I LOVE this push to connect the past to the present you've embarked on, Anthony. I can write your praises, but it's not enough.
Chromeo is one of my favorite electro "bands" of the last 10 years. Amazing sounds and clever songwriting... a rare combination these days. What a great interview with a real-deal synth nerd!!
P-Thugg is a mad genius. This video was insane! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Every video is so informative and I just can't get enough. Great work everyone including the sound and video guys. You all make fantastic videos!
Being a huge fan of the amazing work by Malcom Cecil and Robert Margouleff this is such an amazing tribute to the original spirit of T.O.N.T.O. Just speechless .. much love to you all guys 🎶 🎵 ❤
Bloody amazing setup! I am in awe tbh, not seen that sort of commitment to keys since ELP in the 70s... If you ever get across to UK, will be first in the queue to get tickets. Thanks for this Anthony, all best. 💯🎶🖖
How the fu$k did I miss this ?!?!?! Chromeo are the absolute first people to bring back 80’s style , funk, synths , before it was cool. When fancy foot work dropped nobody was doing that. As soon as I heard “Mommas Boy” I knew this duo was special. That songs in my top songs all time. Easily.
Awesooome!!! Dedication driven to perfection - just wow! Chromeo is one of my absolute favourite artists. Ticket booked for Chromeo live show in Copenhagen (Vega) in May. So looking forward. Thanks mr Marinelli for this very unique interview and given me (others) context and intellectual understanding to how brilliant this setup is and what I´m soon gonna see and hear live.🤩😍😎
I am so happy Anthony met Chromeo. Seems like they do the exact kind of music that derived from what he did in the 80s. TODAY and with such ambition and passion. It's incredible. This sound truly lifes on.
When I first saw Chromeo perform live, the big thing that stood out was of course this amazing setup. What an mind blowing walkthrough! Thank you for this! Can't wait to see them again in September.
That is an incredible stage machine! I can only imagine it with the lights playing off of every surface. Thank you so much for sharing this shiny beauty with us!
You should make a visit to the amazing Dabeull...he has a band full of disco-funk synths! Chromeo....Dabeull...Tuxedo...Kazzey....Mofak....etc....the world is full of disco-funk new artists!
Great piece. Chromeo puts on a great show. Great look behind the scenes. The only thing that surprises me is that they don’t use a custom cable connection to make connecting everything up quicker.
I have hundreds of my own patches, and perfs for NMG2. I bought my G2 when it first came out. It's probably the most exciting synth I have ever owned. I got lost noodling in it for days on end, then sometimes would take what I learned, and build stuff in Reaktor. I did that, for a good few years. I finally sold my G2 in about 2009, I think. Maybe one day, I'll come across another one. Fabulous synth. Designing stuff in it, taught me a lot. 😎
Amazing video - thanks for sharing such amazing content like this. I'm very excited to see Chromeo on tour later this year and to hear this incredible rig!
Amazing setup. Mad respect for the work behind it. What a treat to get an up-close look. Thanks to everyone involved. Those thumb screws for the cover plates, though! Some sort of quarter-turn fastener would save them so much time (and RSI).
I hope you can do a comparison with the new Korg. And maybe with other big synthesizers. And then there are the amazing companies like Arturia, Spectrasonics and Native Instruments. Who started with software alone.
I saw this thing live, briefly, at a festival. Had no idea what it was and didn't appreciate it at all. I wish I had known it was a synth and not a stage backdrop. Wow.
Are those speakers on the top in the middle? I would swap it so the speakers were spread far L & R and all the top Modular’s were in the center. One big mega synth!
And not scratched, marred and scuffed to crap. This needs to be hoisted above the heads of four guys to be assembled, yet there are no “battle scars”. Maybe it’s too new?
Fun deep dive here, feels like a documentary. I saw the CROMEO show (1st with their new gear, after Coachella) at the Regency Ballroom SF. The energy was great, crazy 180 compared to the DJ set a year earlier at Temple SF! Y'all should interview tamiX.
Having done quite a bit of Audi and Lighting and other AV installs If someone could make a nonslip non smudge glove they'd kill it with this crew.. you can't wear white gloves to avoid fingerprints but I bet the guys cleaning it up wish they could.. I'd coat that in a thick ass coat of hard carnauba wax.. lol.. great stuff!!
Wow - I've been a fan of these guys for a while, but after watching this, my respect for them has skyrocketed. Their commitment to authenticity is amazing.

Love how much into detail this goes. I knew P was a synth mastermind, but didn't know he is this much of a synth-nerd! Love it!
A big thank you to everyone involved in sharing this video with us. The expenditure of labor here is extraordinary.
Feels like a privilege to get this kind of access to such a special instrument.
I don't go to a lot of live shows. The last time I saw Chromeo live was in 2011. I want to be able to say I saw and heard the Chrome TONTO live.
Thank you so much for the feature! It was an absolute honor to build out this custom rig for P-Thugg and Chromeo.
Glad to show the world your one-of-a-kind creation! It’s an instrument and art!!
Mad scientists, props!
"The work has been put in..." That's a MASSIVE understatement! This is so rad...
super, thank you for letting us part of this! The tuners are such a good idea!
You guys are awesome - I LOVE how GOOD THE SOUND IS in these videos! Proper sound bizness brothers!!!
Looking forward to watching this. Fan of Chromeo since their Bonafied Lovin days.
Love Chromeo!!!! had to look at thumbnail twice to believe it! watching now :)
Dave and P are so dope and were the original reason I got into synths! I really appreciate this vid with all of the details!
When I saw the size of Chromeo I thought of a sculptor standing in front of a big block of marble just about to start their masterpiece. Thx Anthony and Dante for your tireless and hard work.
Starship Synth! Very cool guys! Analog FOREVER!!!
🤘🤘🤘
awesome deep dive into this insane live modular system that is playable like no other!
nice to see someone controlling theri modular with a keyboard. i felt like i was the only idiot playing keys to control their eurorack when i red in forums about modular synths.

this is perfection. PThugg and Dave are the masters of sonics & visuals
Very inspiring and cool. This video really explains the "why" of synth-diy and why so many people does it.

Connecting…that’s it! Thank you.

P-Thugg is a mad genius. This video was insane! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Every video is so informative and I just can't get enough. Great work everyone including the sound and video guys. You all make fantastic videos!
I have a painting brush and a lint free cloth for keeping my keyboards clean so goodness only knows what it's like keeping that lot clean.
Thats exactly the type of guy i would imagine has a massive modular synth
Being a huge fan of the amazing work by Malcom Cecil and Robert Margouleff this is such an amazing tribute to the original spirit of T.O.N.T.O.
Just speechless .. much love to you all guys 🎶 🎵 ❤
absolutly impresiv... Greatings from Germany👋
"always bring your own patch cords!" a lesson learned at korg's booth when wanting to patch the ps-330 and they couldn't provide 😅
Oh that's just sad. Come on, Korg.
Bloody amazing setup! I am in awe tbh, not seen that sort of commitment to keys since ELP in the 70s... If you ever get across to UK, will be first in the queue to get tickets. Thanks for this Anthony, all best. 💯🎶🖖
Go to Chromeo’s Burbank 70’s studio full of their synths!
so glad this is an actual spaceship and not just a prop. incredible to see this realized by the man himself. so dope
Easily.
I love how the video is uncut . Yes I’m
Here for the hole video!!
what i really appreciate is having a line recording of the synths for this demonstration amazing!
Awesooome!!! Dedication driven to perfection - just wow! Chromeo is one of my absolute favourite artists. Ticket booked for Chromeo live show in Copenhagen (Vega) in May. So looking forward. Great piece. Chromeo puts on a great show. Great look behind the scenes. The only thing that surprises me is that they don’t use a custom cable connection to make connecting everything up quicker.
Great interview and exploration of an amazing system! Was not expecting to see this today. What a great opportunity this must have been for you.
We're super excited to have such an awesome behind-the-scenes look at the system!
Your content is growing exponentially, we all appreciate the effort you and your team are putting into these productions :)
p-thugg is a member of the synthesizer royal family. I love this.
"We decided to go full analogue" 4:20...music to my ears
This one was nuts. Also make an episode with them in the studio Anthony!
Totally Wonderful! I've never heard of Chromeo - Thank you for introducing me to their music!
Those crazy loons!! This is the maddest idea I’ve ever seen yet they’ve executed it perfectly. Not one scratch on that chrome!
I have hundreds of my own patches, and perfs for NMG2. I bought my G2 when it first came out. It's probably the most exciting synth I have ever owned. Guys this video is fantastic, very interesting and for synth modular’s lovers. Thanks to
p-thugg to show this beautiful work!!!
Love Chromeo--the guys and their music!

Love Chromeo. Seen them several times. Awesome cats for sure!
Amazing video - thanks for sharing such amazing content like this. I'm very excited to see Chromeo on tour later this year and to hear this incredible rig!
Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous... thank you guys!!
Amazing setup. Mad respect for the work behind it. What a treat to get an up-close look. Thanks to everyone involved.
Those thumb screws for the cover plates, though! Some sort of quarter-turn fastener would save them so much time (and RSI).
Love Chromeo! Thank you for showing off the rig.
What a beautiful set up!
Thank you for sharing this great feature.❤️
"It requires grunting, four humans grunting, to put this together"
Love Chromeo! Thanx Tony M. for making this video!
That thing is an absolute GAS station!
We're proud of it 🤘
🙌🙌🙌
That is awesome! what a setup!! Great sounds too!
I hope you can do a comparison with the new Korg. And maybe with other big synthesizers. And then there are the amazing companies like Arturia, Spectrasonics and Native Instruments. Who started with software alone.

Fantastic and amazing. Looks and sounds so cool.
I am a silver machine modular musician, but with such a wonderful spaceship I would happily go to a chrome planet.
Love P. He’s a gent and a funky individual :)
Beyond incredible: legendary! 🤘👽🛸
Loved this one. Thanks for sharing this on the channel!
Wild! I'n reminded of Michael Iceberg's Synth Rig when he performed at Tomorrowland in Disney World ! I actually saw him on that rig around 1980.
Brilliant video. Inspired to do the same in a future setup. Thank you for making this.
I love Chromeo and this is way cool 🤘💀🍻🔥
Absolutely badass setup. Great video
Great video!!! Anthony!!! looking forward soon to meet you in Berlin!
Deadmau5 X Chromeo would be absolute kick ass
That is... just... plain... COOL!
Love Chromeo! Amazing rig. Hope to see it in Stockholm soon 🎉
Amazing video as always. 🙌
Would love to see Stevie Wonder on this monster! He played on the original TONTO with Malcolm Cecil. Awesome ❤
Impressive, very nice.
I’m so intrigued and Amazed!
Are those speakers on the top in the middle? I would swap it so the speakers were spread far L & R and all the top Modular’s were in the center. One big mega synth!
Outstanding video thank you 🙏
now that's a SYNTH !
Makes you go blind before hitting a note
That was amazing. truly amazing.
Amazing stuff to learn in this video, thank you.
Amazing fabulous sound.❤
Going to be a journey ❤❤ Cheers Anthony
Ans I thought Steve Porcaro's modular was big.....this is huge! Such a cool display of synth power.
Great Stuff, Amazing setup
When you want to make music but also want a dr evil lair 😂 honestly amazing work 👏
I literally can't believe that is taken on tour
Wowwwwwwwwww
And not scratched, marred and scuffed to crap. This needs to be hoisted above the heads of four guys to be assembled, yet there are no “battle scars”. Maybe it’s too new?

Loved this!
Impressed by the amount of commercials TH-cam stuffed into this. I swear it's every 5 minutes, making this almost unwatchable
beautiful !!! but in reality how much do they use all those oscilators and features during a show?
Having done quite a bit of Audi and Lighting and other AV installs If someone could make a nonslip non smudge glove they'd kill it with this crew.. you can't wear white gloves to avoid fingerprints but I bet the guys cleaning it up wish they could.. I'd coat that in a thick ass coat of hard carnauba wax.. lol.. great stuff!!
