As someone who lives in a country where figure skating doesn't exist, I am SO THANKFUL for this video! You broke it down so nicely in a way it's easier to understand and your jumps are so graceful! Loved everything, thank you so much Mirai!
First of all LOVE your sweater! As someone who started skating at 23, I love watching people explain the jumps and give little tips here and there. Been struggling with my single lutz quite a bit but never thought of the fact that I might be picking into the ice on the inside edge. Will have to try this out some time. Thanks!
Mirai, it’s good to know that every skater has their “dreaded” jump. When I was an adult skater mine was loop. For some reason that take off terrified me.
Love this Mirai! - Also as a coach I’ve started to re-teach the Sal with the back outside three I wanna prep everyone for the doubles early-on and stemming from all the figures work I’ve been doing, I try to spend half if not a third of each lesson on Edges 🤓 I’d love to see a video on learning the double Axel and double Axel off-ice and on ice tips!
Thank you❤. It's so nice to see some videos for beginners. In my country skating isn't really developed, I'm trying to learn some figures by myself, practicing only in winter, but I can do only spins now.
Lovely to see you on this video. I remember Stroking class at "Paramount" & you being so focused. Your hardwork & Journey has been so wonderful to see. All the best! Cheers.
Found this video to be useful. Please do a vlog video where you explain your journey experience on how you started as a figure skater and the biggest obstacle and challenges as well.
Love watching you shine on the ice! Get it Mirai! Your fitness is retirements goals. I also teach a traditional salcow to begin but I specialize in ice dancing and max out at FS 2 jk.
Hey Mirai! Your coaching tips are so helpful I was wondering if you could tell me some tips for crossovers. I've struggling with them for so long😅 Thanks!
You’re jumps are just so beautiful! I’m in my 40’s now and just got a new pair of skates to get back out there. (Haven’t skated since I was 17ish). The new blade has an 8” rocker, last one was 7”. I used to be stellar with my spins on the 7”. I can’t seem to find the sweet spot on these 8”. What would you recommend? Could you possibly do a video of the difference the blades make? Would be super appreciated❤
You seem much happier these days. Do you know John Lennon’s “Watching the Wheels”? He told an interviewer that the stress of being under the spotlight all the time as a former Beatle completely drained him, and it was years before he could rediscover the simple joy of strumming on the guitar and making up songs. I am so glad you have started this new chapter in your life. Just watching you in this video brings me joy. I live in Pasadena, close to your parents’ restaurant. Do you ever bring your dog to Arcadia Park? I’m too shy to ask you for your autograph…but maybe he might give me a paw print?
Hihihi new sub. Would u please walk us thru ur waltz jumps and Salchow. Even doing a voice over explaining what each steps ur foot is doing while doing the jumps ? I am confused after doing the crossover setting up for the jump, u push ur left foot forward , does the right foot (toe pick needs to help pushing - the left foot gliding out) before the right foot leap over for the jump ? ... Thanks
Hello, i am wanting to ice skate as a hobby now at the age of 21 and i am a beginner and really want to end up learning some of these jumps eventually so with enough practice is this doable or generally are jumps not learned and attempted by beginners starting at this age:(
@@mirainagasuskates yeah sorry I think it was the start that I was watching, when i finished watching the flip I realised it was an inside edge😅😅. Btw I literally love I started skating last year and you are such an inspiration🩷🩷🩷
Flutzing is the genesis for the downfall of Figure Skating being taken seriously as an objective and impartial sport in the eyes of the educated viewer. The Flutz can lay claim to the rash of inferior skaters - predominantly Russia- who have managed to normalize sloppy and lazy technique to introduce 'quad' jumps into their programs with a price tag of poor jump mechanics and proper/clean back outside edge takeoff - an obvious error - and being scored by an corrupt - not inept - judging panel (which is another cancer in the skating world inandofitself) This in-turn rewards skaters for poor form and provides no motivation for skaters to learn and certainly not perform technically correct jumps. I would have a difficult time paying a coach who herself cannot produce proper technique. You cannot teach what you do not know.
The arc and air time of your intro waltzes just blew my mind.

Whats the difference between Loop and Flip for a lefty? Is it just opposite back foot?

I wish I was only iffy about doing triple sals. :)
Me watching this video at 1:36 in the morning half asleep “she looks a lot like Mirai Nagasu *looks at the channel name* oh lol because it is” 😂🤦🏻♀️

thank you, so when doing the flip jump, we need to drop the right shoulder, right?
NO! You don’t want to drop the right shoulder. It’ll mess up your axis 😅

How old is too old to try skating again - doing jumps?
