    To make this SAFE for the babies, the spout opening needs to be clogged with fine steel wool or something similar which will allow drainage and also keep the babies from becoming lodged in the opening and killing them.

    Forgot one more suggestion. Since we have LOTS of wasps in our area of West Texas I would suggest filling the tip of the spout with some of that silicone to stop them from encroaching?

    • @UpcycledStuff
      @UpcycledStuff  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      BritKnits Good thought. I would maybe poke small holes in the silicone to allow for some drainage jus in case rain waters get into the nest box.

      You could add little pebbles so that the water can drain between them. I have six pots and I am going to put rubber mulch in the spouts. I will use decent size pieces so water can flow out. I am going to insert chains through the handle to hang it on my tree limbs.

  • @BritKnits

    Love the video. Just one idea I had was to use the handle as the hanger on the wood?? Thanks

    Lovely tea pot nest but by doing research into bird houses one stumbles upon the information about the size of hole for what kind of bird. If you could address that the predators wouldn't dine on baby birds at tea. It is a beautiful garden ornament. Keep crafting!!!

      ROBINS and DOVES build their nests on shelves or ledges so this would work great for them.

    You are using silicone adhesive, its that a long term solution to keeping that tea pot attached or will it fall off soon.

    • @UpcycledStuff
      @UpcycledStuff  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's long term. I've had this particular bird feeder out in the yard for 3 or 4 years now. As long as you make sure the bead of silicone is a solid bead so that water can't get in...this is really just a problem in the winter, if water gets in and freezes it can expand enough to break the whole seal and pop the teapot right off. But I have several in the yard and they are holding up great!

    • @petpawteek8776

      Just use the hangers that you attach to the board and screw it into the tree. You’ll want to make sure the hangers are close enough together to accommodate the curve of the trunk.

    That bird house is not good the hole is way to big and the baby's can fall out easily and predators will have a easy way to get in and eat the baby birds

    • @UpcycledStuff
      @UpcycledStuff  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's true, Josh, this "nest box" isn't for all birds but mamma always knows best and if the opening is too big/open for her babies she keeps looking for a better solution. The hole on this particular tea pot is great for birds like the robin who often build their nests open on most if not all sides. Here is a super cute video demonstrating that point: th-cam.com/video/jV8fGb8w6Jw/w-d-xo.html Additionally, mamma will build her nest inside of the tea pot so it's actually the sides of the nest that will keep babies safe and sound and not the tea pot. Hope that answers any safety questions that you have.

    • @A10TOES
      @A10TOES 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Been Redeemed-I'm placing mine on the NE side of the house, (the other side is SW, too hot) unless you hang in a shady tree.

  • @lovedunkin
    @lovedunkin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with Josh Costa. You are just making a smorgasbord for the squirrels and other predators.

    • @UpcycledStuff
      @UpcycledStuff  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m not sure how this is any different from a nest built on tree limb or any number of other nooks and crannies nests are built in. I’ve watched several baby birds fledge from mine over the last several years since this video was first posted and it’s been a pure joy to watch.
