Yes please!! In these cooties19 times, I'm wondering how to put a wood stove chimney into a modern home in a pinch... I've been really wanting to have back up heat (well, if I had it my way, it would be primary heat!) I can grow food and hunt and we have small livestock and have multiple options for cooking, a creek for water, but heat in the winter?? That's the one that I'm really worried about. Im thinking a wood stove on concrete floor of the walk out basement, just in case, vent through a window? So many videos but not enough for complete noobs explaining the bare basics and mechanics so we understand what we are doing and why, so if it becomes a necessity, we know how to put something efficient and safe, on they fly.... Ultimately I'd like to have an actual big momma cook stove oven, in my kitchen, (husband has a long way to go before that would ever happen) but in a SHTF situation, everything is fair game. Anybody have suggestions?
The little dabs on the flashing is like what we do with a sucking chest wound. Leave the lowest side free on the chest to let blood and air out so we don’t cause a tension pneumothorax!

Hello, Best tutorial the average Joe like myself could have asked for. We are getting the Drolet HT 3000 and can't wait to have it up and blazing! I was quoted $5000 from the "professionals" to do it and I don't think this is as much of rocket science as they made it seem. I find the hardest part is finding all the right parts and pieces as none of my local big box stores have a complete set of the same brand. That last piece you mentioned (double wall chimney adapter) which came in my Duravent Up the ceiling kit, do you happen to know if it would fit a non Duravent double wall black stovepipe? I was able to get Duravent Chimney pipes so that's good from ceiling support and up but I can only get my hands on either a Selkirt or Supervent black stovepipe and I'm not sure if they would fit a Duravent adapter. I'm hoping the Duravent adapter is universal and would accept any brand but sometimes it pays off to double check everything in advance as I already know how finicky those products are. Hope I didn't bore you out with my rant but any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again for the wonderful content!
Glad it was helpful! I am not sure if that Duravent adapter will fit another brand. I would venture to say no. I had to buy all of my stuff online because no place sold stove pipe around here.
Thank you. Sorry the attic is so tight, it is hard to even crawl back to the point of install. The ceiling box that you saw installed is the only surround that is required. @@nickpanhead7209 I used the DAP everywhere. Since I had a double wall chimney pipe, I didn't have to use the high temp stuff. The DAP should keep your shingles down too but be careful where you put it.
this video is super helpful!! could you tell me what kind of piping is needed to run between the fireplace and the ceiling? is it a single layer black pipe or does it have to be double or triple wall as well? Thank you for your help!!!
What are your thoughts on putting a wood stove in a split level home from basement to first floor is 4 steps and to the second is 6 steps. Using a wood stove to heat the home over the furnace?
I was hoping you might be able to give me some information or direction on a problem I have with a wood stove in my home. When I wasn't home my husband and his friend made the cut through the ceiling to install the stove pipe wood stove just about right in the middle of the living room and it's a really isoland people come in and I'm getting ready to sell the house and I want to take it out so people can figure out how to arrange their furniture it should have been put more closer to the wall or in the corner so I was just hoping you might have advice. I just put a new roof and I don't want to mess with taking the part that's sitting on top of the roof out and mess up the roof and I said to the contract and maybe we could just seal it from the inside and whoever buys my house if they want to buy another wood stove and put it in they can or they can get something else but what is your advice on taking it out and sealing it up from the inside and not missing the outside of the roof because it is a new roof and we get a lot of snow here in Colorado I don't want any snow or rain to get under it and have a leak.
What I do not understand is does the square support box have to go from the ceiling to the roof. I have a 4.5 ft from the ceiling to the roof. Do I need additional length of support box.
G’day from Down Under. Thanks for a great video. I can’t find the details of what products and tools you used, do you have a website or FB page where I can see that information. Thanks again Steve 🇦🇺

Great video! I have a very similar install I'm planning for. How does the attic shield attach to a vaulted/angled truss? It looks like it's designed to attach to a level surface. Did you have to adjust the flanges on the shield to match the angle?
Thank you. The ceiling box attaches to the truss in the vertical plane. If you need bracing, that will just sit between each truss perpendicular to the floor. This kit is made for an angled ceiling. Sorry, I don't know how to describe it any different.
Where did you end up purchasing your chimney pipe from. I want to get the duravent as well but nervous to spend 2,000 dollars on some website I’m not sure of.
I did some serious shopping. I got a few of the pieces from Northern Tool, some from Northlineexpress.com, and some from Amazon. Who ever had the best price on the piece I needed. I didn't spend 2k....all in all I think I spent $1000
My local home depot had the duravent system in stock for an ok price. About $1000 for the UPKIT, about 7 feet of DVL, and 6 feet of HT stainless chimney.
There are two types....catalytic and non-catalytic. Catalytic wood stoves differ from non-catalytic in that they produce fewer exhaust fumes and burn more efficiently. In addition to burning wood, catalytic wood stoves also have a combustor that burns the smoke and byproducts.
My small fireplace has a triple thick pipe going up to the top of a 15 inch chimney metal box. ( Fake ) from there on up it's 48 inches tall with one wall galvanized pipe. The lid surround over the pipe on the top of the chimney is metal. At the very top it has a chimney cap that is screened and square with a lid. I've used it once, and it did real good. Is it safe?
If that roof flange was installed correctly .. And it was ! you DO NOT need any sealer on the bottom. Reason ? If ANY water makes it underneath that flange then it is installed wrong to begin with. (Roofer) You mentioned only putting dabs on the bottom so water could drain out. Well as I said if water is underneath that flange ,ITS WRONG! OVERALL great job!!
I do agree, however I was a roofer for some years. And I recall us putting a bead only underneath the shingles around the rim after the boot/flange was installed. That is where water is going to get underneath if anything. And freeze and cause rot Etc. As a roofer you always have to think like you're a stream of water. I'm only watching this because I'm planning on installing a wood stove and I have to refresh my memory as it's been some years lol
Found it. This is the same install kit (with some improvements): amzn.to/3NirIVB. We then just purchased individual double wall DVL stove pipe and stainless double wall chimney pipe.
It is not 100% necessary on a wood stove chimney. It basically just prevents cold air from coming all the way down into your stove. It helps to slightly regulate draw up the chimney when you have a fire.

@@nickpanhead7209 I used the DAP everywhere. Since I had a double wall chimney pipe, I didn't have to use the high temp stuff. The DAP should keep your shingles down too but be careful where you put it.
I subscribed, thanks!
Welcome to the channel
this video is super helpful!! could you tell me what kind of piping is needed to run between the fireplace and the ceiling? is it a single layer black pipe or does it have to be double or triple wall as well? Thank you for your help!!!
You’re welcome. It is actually a double layer Duravent DVL stovepipe. Single wall gives off more heat though.
Single wall will require a minimum of 18” clearance to combustible material. Double wall is only 6”. Important information
What are your thoughts on putting a wood stove in a split level home from basement to first floor is 4 steps and to the second is 6 steps. Using a wood stove to heat the home over the furnace?
It is going to be difficult to move that heat through the levels. I would put one in just for emergency backup and comfort.
Good job
Thank you
Good video thank you
You're welcome
I would take it completely out and have a roofer fix the roof personally. This is more of a question for your real estate agent and a contractor.
How did it hold up? Would you have done anything different?
Works perfectly. We have been having a nice fire every evening for the past week. I wouldn't change a thing.
What I do not understand is does the square support box have to go from the ceiling to the roof. I have a 4.5 ft from the ceiling to the roof. Do I need additional length of support box.
No. The support box is just to transition from the stove pipe to the chimney pipe. It supports the chimney pipe.
@@CountryLivingExperience thank you so much.
How high did you put the chimney above the roof line 'roof top"?
24"
Did you receive the replacement for the missing double wall adapter? It has been almost a year...any news?
We did. Duravent was great and sent a new right away. Took 3 minutes to put it on.
Do you need that ceiling box only for slanted ceilings?
The ceiling box is for all ceilings.
G’day from Down Under.
Thanks for a great video.
I can’t find the details of what products and tools you used, do you have a website or FB page where I can see that information.
Thanks again

The stove pipe and chimney pipe including the ceiling kit were all made by DuraVent. They are the DVL type.
Hope that helps.
What if you have a metal roof? This is a very helpful video
Thank you. Metal roofs require a completely different connection kit. You can probably find it on the DuraVent website.
Very Good!
Thank you.
Thank you
Double wall thru the attic space and roof Is ok to use rather than triple wall?
Yes, absolutely. No need for triple wall.
Did I miss the section when you installed the interior pipe?
You can see it from the beginning of the video and I also talked about the missing part at the end. Do you have a specific question about it?
Pretty good!!! I’m aiming into that project. Are all stoves the same?? Any particular reason to choose one from another?
There are two types....catalytic and non-catalytic. Catalytic wood stoves differ from non-catalytic in that they produce fewer exhaust fumes and burn more efficiently. In addition to burning wood, catalytic wood stoves also have a combustor that burns the smoke and byproducts.
Does double wall pipe require 6 inches from wall and 8inch clearance from ceilings? I believe triple wall is 2 inches.
Yes, correct on the double wall clearance.
Gracias Gracias ❤
De Nada
Can the pipe be painted a darker color or does it come in another color like matte black I honestly don't like such a reflective surface
It is stainless steel that will not rust. No need for paint. They make a galvanized chimney pipe as well. I am sure you can pain that.
I voted for Ron Paul in 2012 also
Awesome! We could sure use him right now.
Best President we never had!
Is it safe?
The single walled galvanized pipe and square cap seems a bit sketchy.
@@CountryLivingExperience Thanks, we got good weather tomorrow here in Northern Indiana. I will get up on the roof and improve that. Thanks.
You're welcome
Nice shirt, boy do we need that guy
Thank you. We sure do.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Good video. Can you advise the specific part number for the DAP adhesive? Thanks.
Thank you. I don't remember using DAP but here is the Loctite High Temp that I bought .......amzn.to/3iOy7HG
@@CountryLivingExperience thanks!
Great video! What Duravent Kits did you use? Would you happen to have a link?
Thank you. We used the DVL kit. I will try to find a link. It has been years since I purchased it.
Found it. This is the same install kit (with some improvements): amzn.to/3NirIVB. We then just purchased individual double wall DVL stove pipe and stainless double wall chimney pipe.
What about people with a metal roof ? Great video.
Thank you. There are different kits that you can buy for a metal roof.
do you have to have a damper system in any situation???
It is not 100% necessary on a wood stove chimney. It basically just prevents cold air from coming all the way down into your stove. It helps to slightly regulate draw up the chimney when you have a fire.
