  • Hi all,
    I took delivery of this nice little Lister LT1 diesel engine today.
    It's about as basic as diesel engines come, this one is a spec 23 reverse rotation engine. This LT1 was a stand by engine at a pumping station so has run very few hours.
    As you can see, it starts easily even in very cold weather and it really isn't very loud, especialy compared with the Petter AD1. Ironicaly, both engines are now build side by side by Lister-Petter!!!!
    Enjoy.....

    Nice little engine :)
    I just arrived about. 2 hours ago from local vintage cars rally which is raced at every winter :) lots of old cars... T-Fords to old lorries etc :) most of them are museum "grade" cars :) Cold at the moment in Finland (about 30 minus celsius degrees) but some cars was cabriolet cars and they drive all the way from Sweden to Finland... and they drive all the journey... no ships was used! Thats is the real racing spirit :)

    The LT were always "knockers". Reliable engine. The LT,LR,ST,SR and many other models are becoming collectable these days and prices are beginning to reflect that! Over here in Ireland some people think that if an engine or tractor is over a certain age it automatically commands a value on par with the Krupp Diamond! If it happens to be lying rusting in a hedge
    it becomes priceless!! Believe me,grab ANY bargain you can get your hands on Phil,that's what my friends and I do!

    Very nice. Like that engine. It sounds like she is ticking over sometimes. maybe the injector is injecting not on the right pressure. My Lister LR1 did that aswell. Changed the inject-pressure to the right bar, and it was running much better than before:)

    Cheers, it had some blue paint "sloshed" over it at some point which is a shame, all the original paint is beneath it. I will restore the engine in the summer I think.
    It just cost me a little bit towards the delivery cost.

    Cheers, I think the reason for the missfire is because I have it running too slow, when cold diesel engines do "hunt" on the govenor a bit. once the engine has warmed up it's not a problem. The injector pressure is 203bar which is correct.

    That fuel tank is a monster

    Cheers, it is quite a nice engine. I'm affraid I don't like the colour! I shall get it on a trolley and see what it's like to rally. If it passes that test then it will be restored and painted a nice MBG once more. I have 8 engines at the moment.

    This looks a nice engine Phil, sounds a nice runner, I even like the blue colour but I can see it was once green. You'll definitely need some wheels on this beauty... you must have quite a collection by now, like it. :-)

    I do enjoy them when they run very slow I have seen competition videos where they see how slow they can get them.
    I did have an LR but sadly never had it running long since sold.
    I thinking of selling all my engines and buying one bigger engine or maybe a tractor, Im still thinking on it.

    Nice engines though, well made and start very well. You could get the shaft extension and pulley from Lister-Petter new.

    I remember these engines we called them Little Tiger (LT1) they had a nasty habit of running away . Their speed was 3000 RPM.

  • @steamwally
    @steamwally  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was most definitly an air filter! If it was an oil filter, the engine wouldn't have been able to get any air at all as it should be sealed.
    I've no idea where you could find one, but your best bet is to have a look on ebay for engines within say 50 miles of you. They pop up in all sorts of places.

    Cheers, well it was repainted blue at some point and not very well so I will restore this engine soon.

  • @steamwally
    @steamwally  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes this one could be put to work. People seem to have this fantasy of running engines on alternative fuels, it's more trouble than it's worth. You have to be very careful with injector pump seals on older engines, these alternative fuels often cause more harm than good. Don't mess around with them listeroid things, get a genuine Lister CS and it will outlast the "clone" version.

  • @steamwally
    @steamwally  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thats right, I have to say i think the Lister is a much better engine. I had a Petter AD1, very similar to the ac1 and it was a horrible engine. At least your one has a big flywheel for slow running, I quite like the AC1Z but would have an LT any day!

  • @steamwally
    @steamwally  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nah, propper engines have a magneto and carburettor.......but I still like this one.

  • @steamwally

    Yeah that would probably last an entire years rallys.

  • @steamwally
    @steamwally  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes the LR1's in particular are finding their way onto the rally field. I have seen LR1's sell for nearly £200....mad!
    I do try and pick up any little bargains I can.

    @steamwally Im not into engine rallying, does it require certain restrictions or something seeing as you mention passing the test? Do other engine owners moan about a neighbouring engines noise on the field?

  • @steamwally
    @steamwally  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Deffinitly a factory built engine, there is a rotation arrow on the cowl.

  • @steamwally
    @steamwally  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No I hope to restore this one soon.

  • @enginelover1
    @enginelover1 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @steamwally Yes your AD1 was running a bit ruff. The older the better! the much more you came to date more the flywheel will be smaller LOL. Are you going to leave it oil raggy job?

  • @Ribbitmefoot
    @Ribbitmefoot 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ain't seen this one to date wally. Nice job mate. I am picking up my 1st LT1 on Saturday. She's working according to the owner but she'll need some TLC. May have to hook you up for some advice if possible? I am located in Dublin. Cheers for now.

  • @steamwally
    @steamwally  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    He probably has a different engine then, what ever way the cowling goes the air flow will still be fine on a low speed diesel like this.
    Tis but ours to reason why, if Lister's thought it ok then it must be!

    Thats a good old diesel!, Original colour? I had a LT1 briefly but required alot of work so i left it and gave it back to the old owner. But still may have one in the future. May i be cheeky how much did it cost?
