actually, YOUR interpretation of New Suga overthrowing Old Suga is what Suga intended with the MV. Yoongi himself talked about this. The mad king represents the old suga, who was greedy for money and fame, but like he says in one verse: now he has everything he always dreamed about and just wants to put his feet on the ground and focus on more important things.
Yeah! Overthrowing the tyrant if you work together with the people is also in there, Suga likes there to be a lot of layers of meaning, but on a personal level it's pretty clear.
OMG you recognised Jin .. that was Jin and JK fighting in the video 🤣🤣 I love how you shouted out Jin 😲 Suga did beg Jin and JK to be in his video and you know how they always support each other they agreed and that was the result of their acting .. this song will forever be Suga's most surprising song for all who sees it 🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜💜
FUN FACT: Yoongi said he does not know if the King died, we will have to wait for his next album to find out! My theory is that the king does not die, going by his solo song "Shadow" its similar narrative. The king here wants money and clothes, his shadow wants big house, cars and rings but in the end he accepts his shadow and says they are the same. So I think the same might happen here. Stay tuned for D3
the line and the translation you didn't agree with is right. Suga is saying he got all that he ever wanted and now he just wants to land back down to earth
In the west, it feels more often that this kind of solo mv or mixtape would break the group apart. I love that they support each other’s individual projects. There’s just never any one’s ego getting in the way and I so admire that 💜💜
I like a lot of interpretations of this song. One of my favorites is that Daechwita can be "here comes the king" but it can also be "here comes the army." That second meaning combined with him opposing his earlier, angrier self - I think it lands on the idea that ARMY is part of how he was able to let go of some of his anger and look for things to ground him. It's got a strong message that with army by his side, Yoongi can grow into a version of himself he wants to be. I disagree with the "hard flex" interpretation of the soft rapid flow too, BTW. I think it's genuine introspection. It's *why* he's opposing his previous self. He wants his feet on the ground. It's where the song turns from a flex to a statement of intent. Also note that he's pushed back against the idea that he killed the king. He says he shot him. We don't know if he died.
That was Jin that bumped Suga's shoulder then bumped into JK and they started fighting in the background. That's not a set that's an actual place that is still used for ceremonial events. The sword dance is an actual traditional sword dance which is why the teacher actually knows it. DKDKTV explanation is good on this one but so is Bookish Theories. You'll enjoy her video explaining this probably even more.
trust me. you don't know SUGA unless you've read the lyrics he wrote for AUGUST D THE LAST; the reason why he gets so many marriage proposals b/c he's so transparent to the deepest.
The song that hooked me deep. I also think about how much they care about creating art. This wasn’t for an album release. This is for a free “mixtape” and if you look in the MV description it’s got the link to download the whole album for free. He is a genius level producer how he used the traditional music and symbolism is just amazing. Symbolism of killing off old blond Suga (he was blond and angry in his first mixtape) to let rebel man of the people rise is amazing. The whole thing he paid for and was his ideas the story board etc. he didn’t even do promo for it just a live where he was silent letting the album play while he created a beautiful painting about the album. Because of course he paints too.
Suga is actually descended from royalty. Four of his ancestral grandmothers were queens, including the famous Queen Min, who was so powerful (and some say tyrannical) that rebels murdered her in her bed. I suspect he was inspired by his ancestors for this song.
18:52 Love this part. How Suga busy working only for him to hear a familiar voice shouting out to him. How happy he is, as if they had not seen each other for a long time. That time they all still live together 😊

I so appreciate you taking us through this; I' m new to Army. have exposed us to so much insight as have many of the commentators!! Every day I learn more about the individuals that are BTS and they are truly incomparable!
Okay so here is a little tea without spilling. There was early on in their career some rappers who used BTS in their lyrics as easy cannon fodder for their raps. Later we find out that these guys did several different kinds of substances to (enlighten their creativity, not) they then took time off to reflect on their actions and came back as hard core rappers. So he is actually talking about real guys who are actual pill poppers then excuse their actions as a way to create lyrics. Suga here is saying he is so genius in his art that he does not need those things to make great music and he is so right in that thought. You are right about the flex about "hyunta", I also think he was just saying he had reached the pinnacle of the music industry. Recently in their 2022 Festa dinner he said that he had so much to say at the beginning of their career and now he has nothing left to write. I think that was what he was trying to convery there. He has also encouraged other bands to come after them not to be the next BTS but to be successful as they have become successful, he is not someone who is overly conceited in fact he once wore rings that had his name encrusted in diamonds one letter per finger S.U.G.A. and one of them fell off and he told the person that got the ring "Enjoy". He is humble and kind and a great lyrcist, producer and composer
Live it!! Suga himself said the beauty of art is once it's put out there it is up to you on how you want to interpret it. There is no right or wrong and there is something to be learned in every interpretation. Anyway, I love his brain for this project. He was so involved with this from production and writing the song to the vision he had for the MV to how it was promoted. He researched down to 70 prototypes of swords he wanted to use only to find out that it was heavy when he found out he had to do a sword dance. The set is so real and can be visited when we go to Korea, put it on your sightseeing list! My favorite part was you yelling Jin. Your bias was showing hahaha
Loved this reaction and major props to you sir, for pointing that fact at the end (where you don't agree with dkdktv). If you have listened to Shadow by SUGA, you see that he mentions this in the song. Daechwita is actually a change in mind set, where his new and matured self is (was) at that moment, versus the mindset and hunger he had at the begining of his career, and he shows it as the mad blond king (making reference to Agust D first mixtape, title song "Agust D") to black haired Agust D now. He's "killing" his past self (ambition) because he now knows what's really important (after achieving all that he wanted, and also, the song Shadow being it's conclution). This is how I see it. Now, for the "popping pills" line, there's this wrong concept about having to do "drugs" in order to fit in the rap culture or to get "inspired" to actully write, so he basically called them all out and this is the real flex, he doesn't need to do any of that because he's a genius. That's my take 😬 Oh!!! BTW, as a fellow metal head, please react to Luke' Holland's drum cover of Daechwita, I f*ing love this so much and would love to see a collab happen (could you imagine this live? after getting a little taste of rocker Bangtan, this would be my dream come true!!!) Suga has always given me the “still waters run deep” vibe in that he appears to be quiet and trying to be invisible but this me blows that sky high. So glad to see this and get the DKDK. Thanks for sharing this, loved it…
Jin is my bias but SUGA/Agust D became my bias wrecker because of this song and MV! By the way, I'm impressed that you spotted the cameo Jin and shouted out his name! Did you ever wonder why there are six other guys in the rebel crew? That's because the number represents the other six members of BTS. Similar thing happen to J-Hope when he had six dancers joining him in the MV for his solo album Hope World. How can you not love it when BTS members think of their teammates even when they are working on their solo projects?
The JK and Jin cameos are great but the Bang PD-nim cameo is the best lol. The 'set' is a cultural visitor's center that's used for a lot of historical kdramas and for schools to learn about the Joseon era. You'll have to come along with Meg when we got to SK so you can visit the place. Start practicing your Daechwita because I demand a performance! PS: Live It!
Really thanks for your reaction ❤🥹 you have to watch the live performance of it with ot7 rappers 😂😂 you shouldn’t miss taechweta with the fake Beard 😂😂😂
I love your videos because its not just a reaction to song or video but gathering the complete info like explanation and all. As an army i love watching your videos. you are amazing.
I also like the interpretation that it is current Agust D shooting old Agust D more than the whole BTS taking on the system interpretation. Mainly because that is specifically what Yoongi mentions in the making of video. I also disagree in that last part with the Hyunta being a hard flex. I feel like his "post-nut clarity" to put it in western terms is that he got everything he thought he wanted, only to realize all the material stuff wasn't as fulfilling as he'd hoped. Kind of like so many children movies with wishes where you realize that getting everything you desire isn't always the best. So his decision in the lyrics is to put his feet back on the ground and I find it really inspiring.
Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Really good song! Catchy. Very much a movie. This was all Suga's idea. His vision. They hired ppl who made his vision come to life. He is such a boss! I remember we were all speechless. Like my god his brain. King! Love the vibe. Suga kills it every time. The autotune is sick in this. Love it. The live version didn’t have an in-person audience but it was live streamed to 1.33 million people around the world. Good spotting Jin! He was fighting JK though u did not catch that. =0p lol. So glad u watched the making off vid too. The one where Suga learns the sword dance is cool af. Hugs. -2019 ARMY NY USA 💜 Like Renee Zemlock said on 12.20.20; Daechwita was the traditional music played to let people know when the King or the royal military was coming through. Yoongi has said that the King represents his past self, the greedy selfish part of who he used to be, and the peasant is his more humble present self. Also, the butcher in the beginning is also the executioner; their look exchanged at the beginning of the vid was them plotting the betrayal and execution of the King. Also, the antique gun he used to shoot the King.... is legitimately called Army. =0) Mark said on 3/18/22 The music at the beginning and sampled throughout actually is Daechwita. It’s traditional ceremonial, military music often used to announce the presence of the king. I think it translates to ‘great hitting and blowing’. Yoongi/Agust D is playing two aspects of himself. The mad king (also called Anger) is himself from the time of his first mixtape ‘Agust D’ released in 2016, and the rebel commoner is himself now (well, in 2020). There are six others in his ‘gang’, representing the other members of BTS, and the young woman who presents him with the car keys embodies ARMY. The revolver he uses at the end is a Colt ARMY revolver from 1860. He has suggested that maybe he didn’t actually ‘kill’ his former self, at least not completely. Yoongi’s three named personas (Min Yoongi, Suga and Agust D) are distinguishable from one another as well as being aspects of the same personality. There’s also a huge amount of cultural and historical reference which is best left to the explanation videos. berha said on 3/18/22 "I wish I knew what that said" - it basically says Daechwita written in Chinese characters. Chinese characters were used for the Korean language before the Korean alphabet was invented. The three characters literally translate to "big," "blow," and "hit" - referring to the royal marching band procession and instruments used in Daechwita. (suga and the 2 butchers) is pivotal to the plot of the MV, interesting you picked it! The butcher is the executioner. Suga is making a deal with him in the marketplace for the end of the video.
Kellzie mentioned Yoongi's vlive of D-2 mixtape. You might want to take a look at it as he explains most of the songs there. He talks about setting traps in songs especially Daechwita. Just misc: JK was suppose to unfurl the Bang PD scroll but he was busy when they filmed (JK drew a similar figure to represent Bang PD). I love his little smirk just before the executioner goes to him... Suga never performed this live. All the members did a live performance but not in front of an audience. I didn't match the mv but did give us the members rapping Suga's lines.
So, Yoongi explained in a live, after D-2 came out, that he places "traps" in his music. Like flies to honey, I think was his wording. "Daechwita" and "What do you think?" were his traps on D-2, where he just goes off. He's said they're not about anyone specifically, and he never mentions names, but if it gets a rise out of someone, then the trap has worked. And he thinks it's hilarious. Specifically about Daechwita, in the behind the scenes for the music video, he said the imagery was more important than the lyrics.
I absolutely love how Jin & JK brought comic relief to the intense tyrant vs rebel narrative! Also did you realise when rebel Agust D made eye contact with the butcher - scum-executioner, it signalled the masses ready to follow the new king. Lastly, I love how SUGA can literally switch flows so many times in multiple cadences when the beat throughout the song remains the SAME. Savage rap KING!
I think Suga explained this song in one of his lives. He usually does a live after releasing his solo songs and talks about his thought process behind every song. I think it was live he did about D2 while drinking whisky hehehe. Check that out too
Hello! new subscriber here! a fellow metal fan and an ARMY! I just want to say THANK YOU for reacting to all these videos and putting them all in one. You are pretty straightforward with your BTS reactions and I LOVE IT! I could also tell that you genuinely enjoyed every single one of them. I'm glad you found BTS and I'm sure they make you happy and inspired just like with many other ARMYs. And OMG you recognized Jin! That was pretty funny! I just found your channel and I'm about to binge watch all your BTS reactions. LOL Again, Thank you and more power to your channel and your patreon. BTW the place where they filmed the MV is "Yongin Daejanggeum Park" the largest outdoor film set for historical dramas in South Korea, and has replicas of ancient buildings from the Samguk, Goryeo and Joseon periods. A lot of dramas and other musice videos/shows were shot in that lcoation. 💜
You're next level John!! I absolutely love how you cover so many different aspects of a MV or performance in one reaction! I appreciate the time you dedicate, your detailed analysis' and genuine and fun reactions!! Freakin' TOODLES!! 💜
I Love This video. I find it very interesting that he chose this historic setting to address the issue. I believe he had two ancestors that were actual Empresses.
Jin and JK are in the video. As you saw, Suga walks into Jin and then hits JK in th head with his pole. JK spins him around and starts punching him. Such an awesome video.
After I watched the explanation video, I thought " Oh My God! He really is a genius! ". By the way...... This is how you should react to this song. You don't realize how much he's woven into this, or how much work he did unless you see all of this. Great reaction! A lot of reactors watch this video and think it's crazy good. BUT they don't get into it. It's so much more when you put it all together. Thank you for putting the time in.💜
If you haven’t already, I’d love to see you do a reaction of Agust D’s self named song & MV. I’d also love to see you cover some of J-Hope’s solo work from Proof, either MVs and/or his Lollapoloza performance. Thanks for the in depth reactions. You have a new fan in me.
LIVE IT! YASSSS been waiting for this reaction. SUGA is my bias and everything he does as Agust D is so much more my metal/hiphop wheelhouse and I've been wondering what you'd make of this. I say "freakin SUGA" in your voice whenever he comes on screen now. I loved that you spotted your bias Jin straight away. That's what it's like for me too with SUGA. I just wanted to say that I really appreciate how your reaction videos are longer because you include the behind the scenes stuff too. I like the doolset lyrics online because they're written with DKDKTV-like precision from the original Korean and include cultural and historical references but your way of tripling down on the song, MV and an explanation works just as well, and gives us a lot of content 🤘 SO, yes Hobi is super optimistic and fun and is known as Our Sunshine in the fandom, you called it. Have you noticed how in many SUGA parts of BTS MVs and in almost all of his Agust D videos he's tied up with rope, blindfolded and surrounded by fire? It's something I joke about now... I love the head banging, my metal heart loves how SUGA more than any BTS member keeps the vibe dark and real, while I still love and appreciate BTS for their optimism and trying to make the world a better place, I've been a metaller 🤘since 1991 so the aesthetic I vibe most with with always be the more hardcore and gothic the better. Thanks SUGA for bringing that energy too! I LOVE the cultural references DKDKTV teaches us and it prompted me to start learning Korean and I highly recommend the Kingdom movie and k-drama series (set in Joseon dynasty about ZOMBIES on Netflix) it's basically daechwita with zombies. Thanks for acknowledging SUGA's work ethic and artistic attention to detail, that's what I love about him. Thanks again John!
Yeeeees! I was so hyped to watch this video. Agust D is sooooo good. As a rap fan I was instantly hooked on his mixtapes and I could not wait to see you discover this side of him 💜 People and Moonlight for his D-2 mixtapey are also great, but tbf the whole album is a masterpiece. Thank you for the video!
Soo this place that MV was taken is a drama set but also place that you can go visit to see old korea, I don't know how you call it - historical village? It is actually used in a lot of dramas that are put in joseon time, I forgot the name of this place. That is why it looks so good and accurate, the trone is replica of real one. Actually it is funny that you said your first watch wasn't sober, bc Suga also wasn't, He said on live that he drink a little to lose to play mad king bc he was worried he wouldn't play it good. He was great. Also as fun fact the image of Bang PD, we all know it is like JK painting, but an Suga image Mr Bang has a mouth and this is actually a word "dancing" write in a way that looks like lips. Hehe And the gun he used at the end is Colt model Army. 😉 Little things but make difference 😁 And he tesed us with 3 Agust D... ahh we waiting, but first will be RM with new stuff.
Thank you very much for taking the time to put all these videos together, it makes it a more interesting watch and we learn to appreciate and understand this song and video better 😊💜.
I see 3: Suga/AugstD/Min Yoongi. The Beginning, The Middle, and the Present which all created the Whole. The beginning is a peasant looking towards something greater then his experience. The Middle is the “King”, all puffed up in seeming success and glory. The Present being whole and complete as a young man discovering the truth of life. Which is all about the whole. I can’t imagine the struggle he has balancing reality with his success. People like Justin Bieber are the perfect example of someone who stayed too long as “the King” (happily he finally found his balance).
FINALLY, you watched DAECHWITA! Jin & JK! DAECHWITA: MASTERPIECE! You must watch everything you can find about meaning. DAECHWITA is music played at Royal ceremony, etc.
Omg John you scared the shit out of me when you called Jin lol x I didn't notice Jk the first time watching it either x I cant I never used to like rap until I started watching and listening to.BTS they totally converted me x
One of the best videos ever. As for meaning, I feel this song could be paired with BTS's Interlude: Shadow, also sung by Suga. These two songs bookend each other in thought. Shadow deals with reaching fame and finding the shadows and evil there trying to pervert you. Daechwita, for me, is Suga saying what he's going to do with all that fame that can pervert the person. He's not going to let all the ego-stroking change him into a cruel emperor, so to speak. He recognizes that trap and he's going to kill that part of him before he can be warped.
I loved the way you yelled: "Jin!" 😂😂😂😂
Bahahaha it just came out 😂

Suga is a frickin Genius! Master of song writing! 💜💜💜
Yoongi is a big fan of Korean period dramas which is why he chose this set for the video. There are lots of historic/ period Kdramas and movies.
That's my take 😬
Oh!!! BTW, as a fellow metal head, please react to Luke' Holland's drum cover of Daechwita, I f*ing love this so much and would love to see a collab happen (could you imagine this live? after getting a little taste of rocker Bangtan, this would be my dream come true!!!)
Here's the link, please please check it out!!! 🙏💜

It's a masterpiece!!!!
So glad you got to this one. One of my ABSOLUTE favs!! This is an epic song and video. But... this is Yoongi we're talking about. "Live it!"
Suga actually learned the sword dance for the video
Suga has always given me the “still waters run deep” vibe in that he appears to be quiet and trying to be invisible but this me blows that sky high. So glad to see this and get the DKDK. Thanks for sharing this, loved it…
Suga is a GENIUS...
Thank you for this reaction
Jin is my bias but SUGA/Agust D became my bias wrecker because of this song and MV! By the way, I'm impressed that you spotted the cameo Jin and shouted out his name!
Did you ever wonder why there are six other guys in the rebel crew? That's because the number represents the other six members of BTS. Similar thing happen to J-Hope when he had six dancers joining him in the MV for his solo album Hope World. How can you not love it when BTS members think of their teammates even when they are working on their solo projects?
One of my favs from SUGA/AGUSTD
Love your channel💜🦋
The JK and Jin cameos are great but the Bang PD-nim cameo is the best lol. The 'set' is a cultural visitor's center that's used for a lot of historical kdramas and for schools to learn about the Joseon era. You'll have to come along with Meg when we got to SK so you can visit the place. Start practicing your Daechwita because I demand a performance! PS: Live It!
Really thanks for your reaction ❤🥹 you have to watch the live performance of it with ot7 rappers 😂😂 you shouldn’t miss taechweta with the fake Beard 😂😂😂
Lol I watched it in this reaction but it got blocked 😅 it was so funny! The reaction is on patreon!
@@JohnReavesLive
Thanks 🥹💜I’m gonna check it out
Waiting for the live performance💜💜💜💜Great reaction and you nice keep going
The “I’m thankful I’m a genius” part ✨💜
Love that you are so upfront with us! That’s why we love you!
I will always be at the very least, honest with you :)
What a complete reaction, you literally reacted to everything. I appreciate that!
This song is🔥🔥🔥🔥!!
SUGA is KING🔥
I think it's wonderful how the members are always so supportive of each other.
Hugs. -2019 ARMY NY USA 💜
Like Renee Zemlock said on 12.20.20;
Daechwita was the traditional music played to let people know when the King or the royal military was coming through.
=0)

The music at the beginning and sampled throughout actually is Daechwita.

"I wish I knew what that said" - it basically says Daechwita written in Chinese characters.
Thank you for a great compilation of videos! 💜
You're next level John!! I absolutely love how you cover so many different aspects of a MV or performance in one reaction! I appreciate the time you dedicate, your detailed analysis' and genuine and fun reactions!! Freakin' TOODLES!! 💜
Live it!! 💫💜⁸💫 love your content. Also love your reaction to spotting Jin 😆.
I agree with you it is much more about his personas and changing with maturity and success.
You yelling JIIIIN is exactly how i reacted watching this! I didn't spot JK at first either.
Love and appreciate your reactions John. You are always so enthusiastic and we can all see how genuinely excited you are about our boys! Borahae 💜
Never thought I would find anyone more talented at the craft than Dre. Then I found Suga.
I was like, dude hasn't seen this yet? Lol 😕 also, fun fact, that gun is literally named Army 🤣 💀
Thank you for putting the time in.💜
hi, john! this was an awesome reaction, so nice to see how far you've come as an army
Live it!! Thanks for the reaction to King Suga!
Live it! This was one of my first exposures to BTS too, so impressive! Daechwita is why Suga is my bias
I neeed "Agust D" reaction pleaaaase
I like the doolset lyrics online because they're written with DKDKTV-like precision from the original Korean and include cultural and historical references but your way of tripling down on the song, MV and an explanation works just as well, and gives us a lot of content 🤘
SO, yes Hobi is super optimistic and fun and is known as Our Sunshine in the fandom, you called it.
JK does have a pet. He has a Doberman named Bam who is THE CUTEST. He came with the boys on "In the Soop" Season 2.
I LOVE THIS SONG. And the video? Amazing. I'm so glad you reacted to this! Good catch seeing Jin! Live it!
Yeeeees! I was so hyped to watch this video. Agust D is sooooo good. As a rap fan I was instantly hooked on his mixtapes and I could not wait to see you discover this side of him 💜
People and Moonlight for his D-2 mixtapey are also great, but tbf the whole album is a masterpiece.
Thank you for the video!
Ohhh our beautiful 천재!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜 One of the best songs ever!!! Thank you!!!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Live it! Absolutely love this song! 🔥🔥🔥
Hehe
And the gun he used at the end is Colt model Army.
😉
Little things but make difference 😁
And he tesed us with 3 Agust D... ahh we waiting, but first will be RM with new stuff.
Thank you very much for taking the time to put all these videos together, it makes it a more interesting watch and we learn to appreciate and understand this song and video better 😊💜.
That OT7 version was awesome and chaotic in a Bangtan way. Hope you get to watch it.
It's on his Patreon as it got blocked here =(
I thought that's probably why he won't be posting that. Hope he enjoyed that video though.
ahh Suga, il est fort ce petit gars!! super impressionnant !!! 💜💜
Oml noooo!!! you gotta watch the actual video. It is so goooddddd
OHH! YESSS! SIR!!! 😝💜😻HE TORE IT UP! AND TOLD THE HATERS! WHAT'S UP 😁! THAT'S ALSO 😉 HOW OUR KING 👑 AUGUST D! DROPS THE MIC 🎤!!!! GREAT RESPECT 😌💜
'Jin!' John screeched calmly..
Little bit of info one of Sugas great grandmothers was a Korean empress so he is related to past royalty
You are so funny ! And you saw Jin !! 👏
Thank you for your reaction. I recommand « First Love » from Suga alone.
Love from France ! 🌸
OMG when you yelled Jin you had me dead🤣 this MV Yoongi paid allot of the production costs himself💜
People like Justin Bieber are the perfect example of someone who stayed too long as “the King” (happily he finally found his balance).
love suga he is genius
“I’m interested…but also drunk and trying to get hot wings” 😂😂😂. I have been there! You should put that on a t-shirt.
Thank you for the great detailed reaction. Daechwita is one my all time fav yoongi song ♥️
The two guys who taught behind Yoongi in the market scene is Jin & Jungkook.💜😎👌
As I always say: MASTERPIECE 💜💜💜
One of the best videos ever. As for meaning, I feel this song could be paired with BTS's Interlude: Shadow, also sung by Suga. These two songs bookend each other in thought. Shadow deals with reaching fame and finding the shadows and evil there trying to pervert you. Daechwita, for me, is Suga saying what he's going to do with all that fame that can pervert the person. He's not going to let all the ego-stroking change him into a cruel emperor, so to speak. He recognizes that trap and he's going to kill that part of him before he can be warped.
Live it!
“daechwita” is the Korean word to refer to the traditional marching music played at the time of a King's arrival
