The best in Gamla stan are these celler pubs and cellar bars. You go down several stairs to a cavelike area to have your drink often with great musicians from Ireland for example.
Oh my gosh yes!!! I went to one last Friday night and it was incredible!!! Everything in that pub was so authentic and beautiful!! Here was a guy preforming music way downstairs, about 2 rooms from where my group and I were drinking, and the place is so densely built, we couldn't even hear him through all the stone!! It was crazy!!!
Hej min gud! Säknar Gamla Stan så mycket! That place is so freaking cute. I still remember the narrowest street, the nobel price museum, all those beautiful buildings with different colors hahaha
I‘ve just come back from a visit to Stockholm and had a meal at the Italian restaurant right behind you on the right on Stortorget ;) I also had some Köttbullar at a restaurant called ‘Burgers‘n‘Fuel‘ in Västerlånggatan. Excellent 👌
My kid goes to school in Gamla Stan and it's so nice to take her and pick her up every day, like walking through the past. There's some great Chinese food there, and the Sci-Fi bookstore is gigantic if that's your sort of thing.
Hey I'm glad I've made some solid guesses about where to go! I've been here for over a month now and have tried barrels and Mr. French so far and they've been awesome!!!
Damn I wish this video had come out just a couple of days earlier, I was in Stockholm just last Saturday. Gamla Stan was so cool, I wish I had known about Under Kastanjen though, looks like such a nice place. Maybe next time I'll get to try out these tips!
I would highly recommend trying out Lasse i Gatan (Sweden's Only pirate bar) on a Friday or saturday because they have a "house pirate" that sings live. I would also recommend Aifur (the viking bar) and Sjätte tunnan (medieval bar)^^
The Old Town is the best part of any city honestly. I loved Gamla in Malmö. So many people in Malmö told me to visit Stockholm so I'll have to do that one day.
My favorite thing about Old Town is the many different stores selling high quality goods. There are some bookshops and toy stores I like to visit, as well as an earth conscious clothes store. If you like tea, I highly recommend Chaikhana tea house, they offer tea tastings and affordable afternoon teas. Otherwise I tend to avoid Old Town (too many tourist) and stick to Vasastan and Frescati. A new favorite is east Södermalm (the historic parts, not the hipster parts).
My favorite area in Stockholm to visit, it brought back some very happy memories of times spent with cousins who are no longer with us. One of my elderly cousins used to tell the most outlandish stories about Stortorget, and one of the buildings used to have what he called a cannon ball from a battle with the Danes. Sad to see the Burger King across from the old cafe from 1785. For me, being in Sweden means enjoying Swedish cuisine. I can guarantee anyone who's reading that your burger at Barrels Burgers was a thousand times better than anything at Burger King. Oh, lest I forget, my favorite bookstore in any country, SF Bokhandlen on Västerlånggatan.
There used to be few good reckord stores 20 years ago when i was young and wondering around Stockholm. Last visit six years ago i didn´t have time to visit in Gamlastan at all, but i managed to stop by one that is located Drotningsgatan about half way from kings castle to T-Central. It also was Christmas day so those wouldn´t propably be even open at that time. Just yesterday i was talking to my friend (she lived over 10 years in Hägenäs, Täby) that it would be nice to get Stockholm after a long time. If the time period is better next summer and this corona situation gets better i surely will travel there and propably in to Tallin Estonia too.
Gamla Stan, gotta love it! Way up on the quaint-o-meter! I stayed on Mälardrottningen, which was epic! The views and the splooshing of the waves, very relaxing 🌊 😉 Personally, I think the Danish Royal Palace, Amalienborg Slot is 'more royal' hello from Denmark 🌸 🌱
Good stuff! A tip from me is to visit vinterviken near Liljeholmen where Alfred Nobels dynamite factory was before, nowdays it’s a very nice fika/reataurant place and it’s Also the place where the swedish masterchef is taking place.
Stockholm's old town holds an advantage over others during Christmas: it receives snow. However, overall, I find Stockholm's old town is rather dull compared to other old towns in Europe, such as Prague, German old towns, Italian towns, french towns, greek towns and the list goes on.
Love, Love, Love Gamla Stan. You should try Restaurang Mårten Trotzig. It's absolutely delicious! We we're in Stockholm just for one week and for an amazing Queen Concert, but we eat there 3x! Greetings from Berlin 😎
I live in Stockholm and one of the things I enjoy doing in Gamla Stan is going to Vapiano! They have super good food there and they have a super nice ice cream place as well there called Stikki Nikki! Would really recomend for americans to visit there.
Denmark never ruled over Sweden, they never have and never will. Sweden has never been ruled by another country through its history, but we merged as countries with Denmark. But Denmark didn't rule over Sweden and Sweden didn't rule over Denmark, we were united under the same flag but had a Danish king. That's why the bloodbath took place, the Danish king tried to take over Sweden, they tried to rule over us and therefore killed a lot of our important nobles and people with high status. Sadly they lost the war in the end before they had the chance to take over Sweden.
Wait, barrels, for real?! Gotta say i enjoyed Barrels alot!(way better than any regular burger i had post covid) but they do not come close to the burgers im used to i holland for half of their price! They where good tho, but like below standard for my perspective, the burgers where all "done" instead of seeing those bits of pi k@
The architect for the new castles presented the design for the new castle 5 hours after the fire. 1 Some say he had plotted for it to get a career break. 2 More plausible : he had played with the idea Long before.
I've yet to meet anyone who lives in Gamla Stan. I dread to think what the mortgage or rental payments would be. That is if anyone could find a property to rent or buy. I was there 8 years ago. It's such a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing place.
This hideous Gangnam Style song could be repurposed to promote the Stockholm tourism district of Gamla Stan. Sorry to have reminded you of that atrocious song... Simply change the chorus Gamla Stan!
I can’t for the life of me figure out why a dude with so many followers wouldn’t do some research before doing a video like this..?? Why would you not ask any of the real locals? Any tourist can find the most obvious touristy places. And the royal palaces exterior can be seen from Cadierbaren or Kungsträdgården and isn’t really as interesting as at least looking inside in some area if all the available ones? The deal with any area like this in Europe, including Paris and Florence, Rome or Venice etc is gaining inside info on what’s really great, and not just do what the daytourist does. This was pretty damn lame tbh. I used to have airbnb in my flat in GS and my guide to the quarter made me top host in no time, so I’m surprized at your video as you actually live in Sweden and have obviously been to Gamla stan many times. Also NO, thumbs down for Burger King in Gamla stan ruining the whole aesthetics in that square. 👎👎
Great video, Stefan! Short and very informative. I'm definitely gonna folow your tips when I visit there!
This one was so good
History & modern day
Amazing loved it

Awesome video! Always enjoy the more “historical” content 😁
A lovely video - stockholm looks lovely.

The ghost tour is great.

I would love to watch this type of contents
Superb quality!!! Congrats!
You should go to Engelen in Gamla Stan and try their “Plankstek”! Fantastic food! And they have live music in the evenings. I love this place!
My favorite bar in Gamla Stan, Engelen!
@@JaneG Mine too!
AAAAAAWWWWW you make me so homesick!!!

Historic centers usually are the best aren';t they.
I used to have coffee and cinnamon buns in Chokladkoppen. Ohh I missed Stockholm
it looks a wonderful city to explore.
Uhhhh! Awesome 👏🏽

Yessss!!! Went and bought some Christmas presents at Målerås crystal flagship store yesterday and that place is amazing

The Old Town does look amazing
Please do a video about the area of Lärkstaden at Östermalm!
Amazingly beautiful, apart from Arkitektskolan - the ugliest building in Sweden :P
Second ugliest after the norra tornen. And they are seen from half of Stockholm
Haha, jag lärde mig en hel del på denna video 👍☺️
Hej!:) jag undrar om du inte kan åka längst upp från Sverige och ner till Skåne. Visa typ andra städer!:)

You can go to a dozen other Vapianos all over Stockholm though. From Stureplan to the Westfield mall.
@@davisnin yes but vapiano in gamla stan is nice because you are close to the old houses
Some nice tips.
You should try my fathers wine bar! “Cork Vin Bar” we are growing a lot in popularity! 😉
Can you do a video from Djurgården and what is there? It would be an interesting.
A lot of things to do there.
Kastanjen is similar to the german word Kastanien 😄
Greetings from Berlin 😎
Can't believe that you didn't mention Aifur the viking restaurant. It's a must for anyone, tourist or not.
The moose steak is fantastic.
