    I'm American, native speaker. Despite that, watching this is really interesting since, as a native speaker, you don't think much about grammar. Watching videos like these make you realize everything you never think about.

    If all the teachers were like James, we Brazilian people would speak English so well!!!!
    I had to learn how to speak English myself. Courses here are so not helping and extremely expansive! So, I made do with what I had. Songs, books, videos, movies...

    What is explained in this video is, I believe, the most difficult and annoying part of the American English. I do appreciate your effort, James! Reading the comments, I've been strongly encouraged to know that there are so many students struggling to understand native speakers and wishing to overcome the diffculties. a 68- year- old man from Tokyo

    I'm an old fan of yours now trying to catch up your vids and getting some improvement. Even in big clients meetings it's very common to hear this "relaxed" speaking you mentioned but what I find more challenging is when people use too many slang, sometimes is still understandable by the context, sometimes it's just impossible. As I said I'm an old fan and something new to me is people saying thanks plus the country they're from. Not sure why is that but probably it's some video I haven't watched yet but anyway, thanks from Brazil! I'm one more in the list! BTW, you surely deserve that dollar, *dunno* if you were just kidding but you do deserve that, and I just found out how to support your work besides the like button. For those interested in, in the engvid website you can find the option to donate few bucks. Keep going!

    • @JForrestEnglish
      @JForrestEnglish 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's true, slang can be very difficult to understand. But don't worry about understanding all slang expressions. Just focus on the most common ones, and ignore the rest.

      I shall not argue against it from the supposed impossibility of infinite succession, barely and absolutely considered in itself; for a reason which shall be mentioned hereafter: but if we consider such an infinite progression, as one entire endless series of beings can have no cause from without, of its existence; because in it are supposed to be included all things that are or ever were in the universe: and ’tis plain it can have no reason within itself, of its existence; because no one being in this infinite succession is supposed to be self-existent or necessary (which is the only ground or reason of existence of any thing, that can be imagined within the thing itself, as with presently more fully appear), but every one dependent on the foregoing: and where no part is necessary; ’tis manifest the whole cannot be necessary; absolute necessity of existence, not being an outward, relative, and accidental determination; but an inward and essential property of the nature of the thing which so exists

    Excellent video, some relaxed pronunciation is very difficult to understand but it's important to practice because when we speak with a native speaker, he could speak on this way.

    • @JForrestEnglish
      @JForrestEnglish 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes exactly. And native speakers will speak that way, because it's how we always speak. We don't think about these things, or even realize we are changing our pronunciation. It happens naturally.
