    Just when I thought that the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto could not be played any better than Heifetz, Milstein, Oistrakh, or Perlman, Lisa Batiashvili shows us a whole new range of amazing possibilities that were previously unimaginable. I feel incredibly fortunate to be living in the same era as this great artist. Thank you!

      @@leonardoiglesias2394 Yes, I agree with you. And they agree with you too! But what makes this music so special is that it transcends any one particular performer or performance. They all show us something new, unique, and beautiful.

    Okay, Tsinandali is now another keyword I need to remember, along with Salzberg, Lucerne, PROM, Bayreuth, etc. I never heard of this musical event before but, after watching 2019 (a moment ago) and 2020 (now), I am convinced that Tsinandali should be in my bucket list or a top list of something.

    The cinematography is fantastic!!! Bravo!! Bravo!! The solo string players were pretty good, too. (In that little section beginning at 38:59 in the concerto Heifetz is simply unsurpassed and extremely unlikely to be outdone by anyone at any time, except by God Himself.)

    Lisa performs the violin concerto brilliantly and with such an infectious sense of humour. I've commented on her performance in another video (very favourably!) BUT, the Rococo Variations is not played in Tchaikovsky's original version, now widely available, but in a bowdlerized version arranged by Wilhem Fizhagen. This is so sad because, as you might expect, Tchaikovsky's original is so much better.

    • @JL-fh4qw
      @JL-fh4qw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't say the original is 100% better at all personally. Personally there are many other reasons I dislike Capucon's Rococo

      @@JL-fh4qw I’m curious what you dislike about Capucon’s Rococo

    • @JL-fh4qw
      @JL-fh4qw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jennylin620 Before I listen to any Capucon recording I already know what it will sound like. He makes decisions based on what he thinks is good tone, just listen to how heavy handed his approach is to the beginning of the piece when it comes to vibrato, dynamics, spaces between the notes and attack of notes a.k.a articulation, etc. Heaven forbid he plays any light spiccato or even staccato passages, he will try to attack each note like it is beginning of Shostakovich. Listen to Haydn 3rd concerto or really any of the variations here. Much of this approach sounds weird even in the heavier concertos. There's a thin line between having a style and actually communicating the structure of the music.

    • @jennylin620
      @jennylin620 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JL-fh4qw I can't disagree with you that he plays in an individualistic manner in this performance. However, if you listen to his recording with Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra. That is by far my favorite recording of this piece. With Haydn I believe you are talking about his performance with Dudamel and the Berlin Phil in that performance I feel that he brings a sense of clarity and intensity that I've never seen another cellist bring to the the last movement of the concerto. Compared to the first two movements of the Haydn in C concerto the last movement has much more virtuosic and soloistic passages.

    • @JL-fh4qw
      @JL-fh4qw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jennylin620 For the Rococo Variation I recommend you listen to Jakob Koranyi, for me 1000x the better musician with a superior technique. And the Haydn in C, I recommend Queyras. Let me know what you think of those two. For me Haydn should be placed with gut strings and if not, should be played lightly.

    Batiashvili beats some of the Big names that come to mind in violin playing, when it comes to the Fiendishly Difficult and Emotionally Taxing and Musically Deep first movement of the Tchaikovsky Concerto, which is arguably the hardest concerto movement in the violin repertoire to bring off both musically and technically. Another excellent modern interpreter is Clara-Jumi Kang. Though as for the those nearly unplayable Bravura passages in the First Movement, I still think that Heifetz had more left in the tank, and had more control, and still maintains his lead, even as compared to the most technically perfect players of today such as Mutter and Vengerov.
