Illithids come directly from the far realm. Aboleths either also came from the far realm, or were some byproduct of creation. Generally, they'd probably want to kill or subjugate each other.
Depending on edition, Illithids are in many ways the opposite of Aboleths. While Aboleths are from a primordial past, Illithids came from a doomed future and attempted to come back in time to start their empire early, bringing races such as the Gith with them as thralls. A thing I've always noted about Illithids is their uncanny similarity to Elan; great psionic might, abbarent nature, need to turn an existing being into them in order to breed and their feeding off psionic energy (internal for Elan, external for Illithids). It leads me to believe that the future the Illithids come from is one where the Elan gradually refined their methods, becoming less and less 'human' over time and working out methods to make their reproduction easier, via a parasite rather than secretive ritual.
oh god dont remind me about these my party encountered a aboleth during the current campaign. and then after that encounter at some point we found a freaking necronomicon and one of us in the party got the brilliant idea to use it and ended up releasing a second one into the world. these damn things scare the hell out of me and yes the one we first encountered was one such pre-god critter which probably means its got some terrifying stats.
I might have missed it, but I think when talking about DnD creatures, it would be nice to state their alignment, which I think is one of the most interesting aspects of DnD. In this case, it's lawful evil. A video about the alignments would be great too imo. Anyhow, nice video as always
The entire idea of racial alignments (outside of when that's basically the entire concept of a race because of its plane of origin) is actually one of my least favorite parts of D&D and I kind of think that largely getting rid of them is easily the best thing Eberron did.
PolySaken which to be honest, I prefer that. I think the only similarly is the name and appearance when SW Aboleth is in her “natural” form. Plus literally backhanding the strongest Jedi to ever live is quite the accomplishment

I really like how you are going through publication history to see how they evolve through interpretations. A lot of other channels don’t really bother with publication history and just say what is currently canon
Fun fact, the Aboleths are so old they are believed to have lost there kingdom to the mindflayers they fought and were defeated in almost a draw duel of mutual destruction. Hence both living in the under dark (similar to there homes in space) and great memory, huge brain, and psionic traits they have.
This would be pretty amazing I honestly think they're pretty evenly matched of you count every scp ever made vs every dnd monster ever made I think DnD has more gods but the few gods that SCP does have are just so overpowered that they stand a chance
Chandler Kinney no after the 3000 series of SCPs it gets out of hand.... like literally one of the SCPs is the creation of a god that designed him to be able to infinitely have apotheosis ( apotheosis being the ascension to god hood) which meant that it quickly gained so much power (as it was like an exponential function with no limit) that it’s own creator could not kill it and that it became so aware that it realized the entire SCP universe was literally just a bunch of stories patched together for the entertainment of other worldly Eldritch beings ( The real world )... and that’s only one of like 5 I can come up with from the top of my head that could probably kill the entire DND pantheon... then there is the broken god, or the flesh god, the crimson king, the one SCP that quite literally knows that it’s in a story and can control plot armor ( this alone would fuck over every single god in DND existence as it’s like saying “you are literally fake, so now you don’t exist “), or the other one that knows everything the author of the SCP knows as well as any reader.... the SCP universe has the most fucked up power scaling imaginable... I mean fucking gurren lagan didn’t even have as big of a power scale jump and they were literally throwing galaxies around fucking 7 years after the story had begun. There is a reason that there can be no “canon” to SCP, Because if there was, then we would have serious issues keeping together why reality itself wouldn’t just be ripped apart from the literal dozens of entities that don’t even like the place and can actually thanos snap it without even needing to snap Meanwhile the gods of DND can’t really write reality to their will ( atleast not casually without fucking everything up ) unlike the SCP universe where one SCP deleted an emotion from human history and now we don’t even know what it could possibly have been, or the fact that DND gods can and have been technically overpowered by mortals ( such as Karsis creating his level 12 spell to mount the literal god of magic ) My point is that if we are to judge based purely off of feats, the SCP universe would be gods of the DND gods by this point And the only other pantheon that has remotely close enough feats to compare to the SCP pantheon is probably the Cthulu mythos but only with the outer gods and then Azathoth himself. Besides that I don’t think DND has a realistic chance... then again, it’s gods so who are we to tell who could win
@@targitausrithux2320 The apotheosis dude could just ascend beyond Azathoth, because every next narrative is what the whole world is to Azathoth. IIRC Aboleths have an ability that makes them a lot more interesting; when an Aboleth dies, their mind is strong enough that it can remain on the material plane and actually rebuild the body, if a lot weaker after some days or even weeks. To kill them for real is a lot of work.

I like Pathfinder's use of Aboleths in their lore. The broader name for the family Aboleths are part of is Alghollthu, and they don't originally come from Golarion, the world Pathfinder adventures are typically set on. They are alien creatures, who once completely ruled another world until a rebellion saw their numbers dwindle in conflict to under a thousand. They used a form of magic called glyph magic to create portals to various new worlds, including Golarion, and used another glyph spell to completely destroy their homeworld. On Golarion, they were behind the rise of the first Human empire, but events transpired that led to a decision on the aboleths' part that it had to be destroyed, so they cast a collective spell to send an asteroid on a collision course with the human empire so that it would be utterly destroyed, along with all evidence of the aboleths' existence. Meanwhile, they would hibernate beneath the ocean and wait for the opportunity to enslave whatever new creatures would come after the death of humans. A human goddess, however, intervened and pulled one of Golarion's moons in front of the asteroid, and while this didn't completely stop the event that would become known as Earthfall and resulted in the death of the goddess, humanity (and other races on the surface) survived, but with a hefty reset on existing empires and civilizations.
This monster would fit right into the story: Call of Cthulhu, or even a d&d campaign inspired by HP Lovecraft, I could see a tribe of Sahuagin as its minions, maybe these Sahuagin have dark magic at their disposal, and instead of them calling regular sharks into battle they could have zombie sharks instead!
